Great review. You're so chill haha. A word on your comment about the DAC portion and using it just as an amp, since it doesn't have any analogue inputs what you're hearing is the Sabre DAC implementation through the amp section. So if anything, the amp section has tamed some attributes of the DAC which you found not to your liking. Pair it with a different amp and you might might find a great match. Of course not everyone hears the same. FYI I have a Conductor 3XR.

Of course I get that, in terms of the amp section taming the DAC. Hence why I always say implementation is always a big deal and not always about the chip itself. And thank you I pride my self on being laid back and chill. Thank you for noticing!

It really depends on what headphones and or speakers you have already. If your headphones and speakers are somewhat resolving yes you'll hear a difference, but if you have just basic headphones and speakers you won't really be able to tell.

Can I use this to power passive bookshelf speakers?

You can use it as a preamp to send signal to a power amp, then the power amp can power your speakers. 👍
