I think the last points you are making are profound. Most of us started in music because we loved it, got a thrill from creating, were immersed in the music, the local scene, fashion/ style identity and the general buzz of it all. I think ambition and frustration can play tricks, that it is important to stsy connected to the initial things we enjoyed.

My favorite part of this video is for us to be content and fulfilled in what we are currently doing. We started our music journey for the love of music, and for the lives of others that we are trying to touch. If we touch one life per week, that is a success, and we may not even know that we did that. My current issue is that I’m currently learning how to post on social media and just no one will engage with the content so social media for me right now hasn’t been social at all. I’m learning ways to fix this. Thank you so much for the video.

Exactly this yes. If you’d like to look more in to this I recommend watching some videos from Alan Watts on KZbin. He said life is like your favourite piece of music, you don’t put it on just to get to the end.

Excellent things to take to heart. I also encountered something from another source saying that the audience you end up connecting with may be totally different from your friends and family, who might not be your audience due to differing tastes and interests. This really impressed me as important. And definitely just move on from critics at any point in your life.

%100 I can count the friends and family members that give a shit about what I'm creating on two fingers hahaha, it's wild man :p Friends & Family aren't fans, it sucks to learn this. Artists that actually do have a massive support network from friends and a big family have a HUUUGE advantage over those of us who don't :/

I must say, this is great information. But anytime I hear the epic music in the background of a KZbin video, I feel like it's a cheap way to get me emotionally invested. Great information like this doesn't need it. Thanks for the video.

Great points all. As a Mix Engineer, I wish people would take these up and live them (instead of the opposite) as these are the biggest fear-impediments that I see over & over. But people don't seem to want to overcome them which is sadder as it breaks everything for them and the world that will never get to hear what they had to say. :-)

Burstissimo Thank you so much. For all this content. I cannot express my gratitude enough. I would still love more advice on music promotion. I've just uploaded some promotional (2 days ago) videos with my highest view count being 600 views. Is that a good metric for you guys? I'm mostly focusing on the follower count and engagement. So far I haven't really found my audience that has stuck.

I stayed untouched until the seventh and eighth point. Deep concepts there, every real musician should be fulfilled by writing, recording and playing their own music, being authentic to themselves and enjoying it. Success is good and a powerful motivator, but it's out of anyone's control and if you have unsolved issues it's probably going to make them worse. I'm not preaching, rather reminding myself about this.

a bit conspirationalist but still good info ('they' are not trying to keep you happy, 'the media' are not obsessed with ad revenue, they are also an avenue for genuine change in thiungs like spotify fees... part of their job is to highlight issues and unfairnesses in the world... ).. anyway this is otherwise really good life advice in general, never mind just the music industry, awesome ...

I highly disagree with your caveat to point 4. All the successes of my career have not been in spite of but as a direct result of implementing my political beliefs into my art. There is a market for art that stands for something.

Good points, except I disagree with number 4. The reason why famous/major artists stay at the level they are at is because they rarely, if ever, make political statements--or at least not ones that are too outside acceptable social norms. If they did, then they would quickly lose their large platforms. Also, waiting until you've "made it" to make political statements also assumes that you will become famous and have a large mainstream audience. But what if you never get to that level? Should you never speak up about causes or music industry politics in the off chance that "someday" you'll get there?

We used to have case studies on our website but took them off as it caused a few complications. The reason why we decided to not talk about our clients is across several points. Having said this, we sometimes share stories of our clients on IG stories. We shared one last week where a client managed to get 2m views on a simple TikTok. We took the artists off the website and don’t mention them on socials because: - is it fair on an artist to publicise that a company was behind their marketing? It could ruin their credibility if you search their name and our video comes up rather than theirs. - following that point, artists may be put off from working with us because they don’t want to be added to a public list, which would suck for us. - It can give new clients false expectations on what is possible from a campaign with us. Some will get millions of streams some will get 50k streams. We aren’t the type of company who dangle carrots just to get artist’s money. We try to keep expectations real. - Then you have to make sure you can claim all the credit for the success before dropping it in your content, first example if you work on an artist’s first release and they get 50k streams, then the next one they get 200k, then the next release they decide they have enough to release on their own now and get 2m streams…. Can you claim credit for laying the foundations for their success? can you then still mention them as an artist you’ve worked with despite not working on the bigger tracks. If you mention the tracks specifically you’re going to look horrendous if the tracks you worked on have less streams than the other 😂. - on the flip side of that, where did the artist start? If they already get 20m streams per track and you work on a release that gets 100 million streams. Can you take credit and say you got an artist 100m streams? I’d say that’s deceiving. - You have to make sure you can claim all the credit, maybe there were other people involved who’d be pretty pissed if they saw you on KZbin claiming credit for the success of an artist when there were 3 other parties involved in the project. So that’s why it’s easier for us to not go in to the details of specific artists in our content. Having said this, we do have a PDF we used to send out with examples of artists we’ve worked with and are sure we can claim 100% credit for their successes and what is described so there are no illusions. If you let me know your email I can send it across if you’re interested.
