Black Metal music sounds wonderful on a piano. Its a shame that more of the symphonic Black Metal bands get labeled as fakes by purists in the scene. Many Black Metal bands are influenced by classical composers such as Bach, Wagner, Masgourski and so on. Many are influenced by these composers without even realizing it. The minor and dissonant chord progressions are what you would hear in the darker side of classical music.

The reason why symphonic metal is looked down upon is that it has devolved into cheesy festival music with no spirit or metallic traits. Guitar riffs are replaced with dated-sounding synths, vocals are weak or overdramatic and songs have no direction or theme. It's appealing to pseudo intellectuals by using tropes that are associated with classical music, without actually understanding classical music. Also, who the hell is Masgourski?

People just don’t like the way metal sounds, but yet it’s the most complex genre of music behind classical. Most classical music lovers I encounter label metal as trash, and then when the sheet music of the song is put into orchestration, they completely change their minds. Classical and Metal are the two most superior genres compositionally speaking.

I know this comment is a year old, but it’s harmonic minor, not Phrygian. Although, there is a flat second that appears in the song, but it’s not apart of the main riff. But yes I agree, Phrygian is nice.
