I too was homeless for a while when I was 14 after both my parents died; I've been moved around a lot and have moved around a lot on my own but there is something that stuck and is still a kind of fear of mine: I never want to be homeless again. I have been wanting to build a tiny house ever since. At 14 I went from wanted to buy a school bus and live then at 20 i wanted to build one on my land from a shipping container. By 23 I wanted one on wheels and at 26 I now have a fiance who has no problem with it as long we're together and we own the land. Wish me luck cause it's happening within 6 months. 36-40 feet of home.

Many people do travel with their tiny house on wheels.
@valeriehancotte-galan47905 жыл бұрын
@@mimijohnson7714 , personally I would only move a tiny house if it was absolutely necessary. The jarring from the road, going up and down Hills are mountainous roads would definitely put a lot of wear and tear on the tiny house.
@littleshepherdfarm21284 жыл бұрын
I would prefer the tiny house built on a trailer personally. Those that want to do the bus thing must have a class B CDL in order to do so and it must be maintained in order to keep driving the bus. Every couple years you have to get an exam by a specifically licensed doctor for that purpose and if you develop heart problems it goes to annually and can even go to semi-annual visits just to maintain that license. I know because that's what happened to me. I was an OTR truck driver and started having heart issues. I am now retired out of necessity due to that and a myriad of other things so I don;t drive semi trucks anymore nor do I haul anything over 10,000 pounds total because I am no longer allowed to do that. But you CAN build a tiny home that is liter than 10,000 pounds and haul it legally anywhere in the USA and Canada as long as you stay under the legal limits. SO for me that is a much better choice. Besides, you can drop it off in a special spot and travel freely without it tagging along behind you and killing your gas mileage while you do it. There are definitely advantages to both. You just have ti weigh them in and see how each fits in your plans.

@@littleshepherdfarm2128 Thanks for the info. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who didn't know that. Lots to consider and research but glad there are so many options for "home".

@@tpurifoy2756 You are ways welcome. I just always seem to notice that nobody touches on this specific issue and it's a major one if you wanna drive a bus that has been converted. I'm pretty sure the Class B CDL also applies to motor homes. But with buses you may have to also get a passenger endorsement depending on what the DMV tells you about it. So it's a lot to consider. Hope that helps you

I love schoolies! I think a tiny home would be something I would want if I had land and wasn't planning on moving around too much. A school bus is made to move, so it seems more secure to be used as a RV. Also a school bus is cheaper. I've looked into it, and the steel trailer for a large tiny home is like $15-$30 thousand while you can get an old school bus at auction for less than $5000. But I love this whole movement, and think it's great to go tiny whichever way you prefer. It's so refreshing to see people redefining the American dream in such a unique and inspiring way.
@annahansen95646 жыл бұрын
Lauren Jordan but how much does the renovation cost? They still have to renovate the house so it might more money after the renovation
@laurenjordan34346 жыл бұрын
@@annahansen9564 for what I wanted, it would cost the same either way, after the initial cost. (Actually a little more for the tiny home because of the exterior walls and roof.) The exterior walls and roof of the bus are already there (but have to be completely built on a tiny home,) but either way you have to insulate and put up interior walls on both. In both setups, I would want the same appliances, solar setup, furniture, floors, compost toilet, shower, plumbing, electrical, instant hot water heater, propane, etc. So for me the only difference in the cost was the cost of the trailer vs bus, but if you went a different way, it might be closer to the same cost. A bonus for the tiny home is the loft though. My husband already said he is not doing a roof raise on a bus, so the height and feel will be more cramped.

Have to share a house with my bachelor son and his 2 little girls, which is really hard on me physically. Time and energy aren't mine any more, my organic soap business just sits because I'm ragged out from full time babysitting. Love the Skoolie...............makes more sense to ME than a tiny house. Seem more sturdy for travel and moving from one location to the next.

Definitely a bus for me. I love road trips & this bus is adorable, as are the owners.

A skoolie to get my wanderlust satisfied and a tiny house to settle in when I'm a grandma. I dream of taking my grandkids on nature walks someday.

I love their attitude toward life as much as their home.

“Dont not do something because you’re afraid. Get in there. Get involved.” Very aspiring! And i definitely loved this tiny house and loved that its actually a bus!

How much do these big buses cost to buy? How much does it cost to upgrade the bus so it is mechanically sound? (Engine, transmission, axle, etc.) ... Oh, paint job too. And how much are monthly costs after it's all done?

... and how is it powered? They didn't mention anything about solar panels, batteries and an inverter. Also, do you have a/c? And how is it heated (and insulated)?

From the videos I’ve watched normally it costs people roughly $15,000-$20,00. You can definitely do it for a lot less or a lot more though.
