I was thinking the same thing. I actually come to these tiny house videos because I think folks are crazy and seeing their tiny homes allow me to stop and look around at my small townhouse and feel that I have a mansion. This time, her words of love sounded crazy honest, sane and truly heart felt. I wish everyone could find and maintain such a relationship.

I too was homeless for a while when I was 14 after both my parents died; I've been moved around a lot and have moved around a lot on my own but there is something that stuck and is still a kind of fear of mine: I never want to be homeless again. I have been wanting to build a tiny house ever since. At 14 I went from wanted to buy a school bus and live then at 20 i wanted to build one on my land from a shipping container. By 23 I wanted one on wheels and at 26 I now have a fiance who has no problem with it as long we're together and we own the land. Wish me luck cause it's happening within 6 months. 36-40 feet of home.

Aww, that is heartbreaking to think of you being without your parents, all that pain, and being homeless at 14. No child should have to endure that. Well done on rebuilding your life, making plans, and now having a partner to real use those dreams with. I truly wish you peace, love, fulfillment, and happiness in your exciting journey.

I had dreams of building a tiny house on wheels for a long time. But after my husband passed away I decided to keep his 1993 Chevy Silverado half ton pickup truck. Since that really limited the size of what I can haul I’ve decided to build a Skoolie instead. I still get my tiny house and I can keep “Big Red”! That’s what I call a win-win!

@@mimijohnson7714 , personally I would only move a tiny house if it was absolutely necessary. The jarring from the road, going up and down Hills are mountainous roads would definitely put a lot of wear and tear on the tiny house.
@littleshepherdfarm2128
@littleshepherdfarm2128 4 жыл бұрын
I would prefer the tiny house built on a trailer personally. Those that want to do the bus thing must have a class B CDL in order to do so and it must be maintained in order to keep driving the bus. Every couple years you have to get an exam by a specifically licensed doctor for that purpose and if you develop heart problems it goes to annually and can even go to semi-annual visits just to maintain that license. I know because that's what happened to me. I was an OTR truck driver and started having heart issues. I am now retired out of necessity due to that and a myriad of other things so I don;t drive semi trucks anymore nor do I haul anything over 10,000 pounds total because I am no longer allowed to do that. But you CAN build a tiny home that is liter than 10,000 pounds and haul it legally anywhere in the USA and Canada as long as you stay under the legal limits. SO for me that is a much better choice. Besides, you can drop it off in a special spot and travel freely without it tagging along behind you and killing your gas mileage while you do it. There are definitely advantages to both. You just have ti weigh them in and see how each fits in your plans.

@@tpurifoy2756 You are ways welcome. I just always seem to notice that nobody touches on this specific issue and it's a major one if you wanna drive a bus that has been converted. I'm pretty sure the Class B CDL also applies to motor homes. But with buses you may have to also get a passenger endorsement depending on what the DMV tells you about it. So it's a lot to consider. Hope that helps you

I love schoolies! I think a tiny home would be something I would want if I had land and wasn't planning on moving around too much. A school bus is made to move, so it seems more secure to be used as a RV. Also a school bus is cheaper. I've looked into it, and the steel trailer for a large tiny home is like $15-$30 thousand while you can get an old school bus at auction for less than $5000. But I love this whole movement, and think it's great to go tiny whichever way you prefer. It's so refreshing to see people redefining the American dream in such a unique and inspiring way.

Lauren Jordan but how much does the renovation cost? They still have to renovate the house so it might more money after the renovation
@laurenjordan3434
@laurenjordan3434 6 жыл бұрын
@@annahansen9564 for what I wanted, it would cost the same either way, after the initial cost. (Actually a little more for the tiny home because of the exterior walls and roof.) The exterior walls and roof of the bus are already there (but have to be completely built on a tiny home,) but either way you have to insulate and put up interior walls on both. In both setups, I would want the same appliances, solar setup, furniture, floors, compost toilet, shower, plumbing, electrical, instant hot water heater, propane, etc. So for me the only difference in the cost was the cost of the trailer vs bus, but if you went a different way, it might be closer to the same cost. A bonus for the tiny home is the loft though. My husband already said he is not doing a roof raise on a bus, so the height and feel will be more cramped.

Love this couple, their story and the bus! I've been homeless too, and as i've been disabled on SSI since 29, raised 3 sons on it, and now my disabilities are quite limiting, I can't afford to buy land or a bus/ van, and can't do allot of the work myself. Have to share a house with my bachelor son and his 2 little girls, which is really hard on me physically. Time and energy aren't mine any more, my organic soap business just sits because I'm ragged out from full time babysitting. I'd love to have a smaller bus or a tiny house in the country so badly for myself and soap making/ selling. Living vicariously through these videos lol. Have a good start on some of the things I'd need, but I'm stuck. Thank you for these awesome videos!

We didn't want such a big house or things to fix constantly and bought a new house just under 1300 sq ft. We still are having trouble getting rid of the extra stuff we've accumulated over 44 years of marriage. My husband has more issues with letting things go. I love organization. If any space is organized, it can be optimized to maybe not feeling palatial but feeling at home and not feeling cramped. You both did a beautiful and inspiring job.

I must say this layout is awesome and perfect for them for now until or if they have kids. On the other hand for me I prefer a Tiny house because of my needs ,there are certain things I just have to have with my especially running my business from home. Great video !

This was so well-done! Thank you for such quality videos:) I like tiny homes because of lofts but in terms of affordability these days, schoolies are certainly more do-able for some people. I would be curious how much it cost for them to buy the bus and renovate it.

This is the most attractive bus on KZbin, I've seen it on another video as well. Best interior layout and, particularly, interior colors and design.

Love that there is an actual bedroom, full sized shower and a seven foot long sofa. I like that this place is bright and cherry. This is the kind of tiny home ~ school bus that I could live in.

You have a Manx! They’re wonderful cats. I’ve had three. My first was Bugs who lived to be twenty. What a cat, who seemed more like a dog. The second one was Puffer. He made a puffing sound that was hilarious. The last was Bob who was an orange tuxedo. I miss them all. They are now waiting for me on the Rainbow Bridge. Enjoy your Manx. They’re a very special and unique breed of cat. I’d love to tell you the stories of my three but I know that would take to long and take up too much space. God be with you on your journey.

Tiny house...on a permanent foundation. Paid for, no rent. That's my preference. Good on them, however. Looks and sounds like it fits them to a T.

They are such a lovely and loving couple🥰. I prefer the bus. I like my home to be stationary. I'd merged two busses together, to create a new home. I love space and I have a big family 🤗

great job, though seeing him nearly hitting his head at every step makes it clear to me once again: the best skoolie conversions are those that start with lifting the roof - makes a WORLD of difference!

Great video just wanted to throw this out there I converted a 40ft transit bus back in the late 90s its crazy how popular Skoolies have gotten over the past couple years now I'm currently converting a 84 MCI Hwy coach which is a great choice for converting built well and has the cargo bays ready to go. My hat is off to anyone that has that vision to convert a bus and change the way they can achieve the freedom so many people only dream of, way to go you visionaries. Way to go.

That is amazing guys. I love it. That doesn't look like a converted bus. It looks like a really nice apartment or small house. And the white walls gives it a really pleasant, positive look. I love it and want one just like it =)

How much do these big buses cost to buy? How much does it cost to upgrade the bus so it is mechanically sound? (Engine, transmission, axle, etc.) ... Oh, paint job too. And how much are monthly costs after it's all done?
