@@SPW812 You and me both bro, it's breaking my heart to see the values that this younger generation hold. Good luck on finding people who will do a honest days work for honest pay. I will say I think a big part of the problem is greed, big corporations want to pay millions for top management, return higher, higher returns to stockholders which is great, but then try to short change the workers who are the ones making it all possible in the first place.

Classic bad shop practice is throwing unneeded parts and unnecessary repairs at a problem until something works, and when it doesn't work, ignore customer's phone calls hoping he'll move on. This is why accurate diagnostics is so important and why mechanics who can accurately diagnose problems is worth their weight in gold. It's far easier to spend time accurately diagnosing a problem than changing unnecessary parts. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

That is the big problem of today !...shops that do not have the patience or expertise to diagnose a problem correctly and will cost you thousands of unnecesary expense.I just lost 2300 dollars on a bogus transmission repair !...They want to replace parts until they get lucky !...my tranny repair didnt even do that...they just tried to tighten the transmission bands and then told me they had replaced everyting....the tranny slipped worse going home than when I brought it in.? Thank God for people like Scott who know what they are doing and who treat you right ! You guys are worth your weight in gold ! Dana

With the terrain and roads on and around your property, you could offer to teach people how to properly drive their busses after you fix them. Hills, tight turns, different road surfaces, traffic, etc. You fix the bus, teach them to drive it on the test drive, and everyone wins, including us because we get to watch. It's $2.79 per gallon here in Sacramento, CA at Sam's Club, and that's cheaper than the retail stations around town. Cool departure. We used to play the "Victory at Sea" theme when leaving the dock. If you go to the pros you get pro service. Most of the younger mechanics are working from what they may have retained from training school. I hear lots of complaints from seasoned mechanics and customers about that problem. The art of critical thinking is lost on them. When you find a good service provider you stick with them. People are "beating a path to your door". Keep up the good work.
@Cemi_Mhikku
@Cemi_Mhikku 4 жыл бұрын
Don't make this an age thing, my guy. This is just a problem in the industry, and has been since the days of the horse and buggy. The ageist stuff from the 'old hands' is usually just a bit of jealousy regarding opportunities they didn't have (tech schools are a pretty nice leg up), coupled with forgetting how little THEY knew when they were just starting out. And yes, banging on about 'dern kids' is ageism, because it's an attack on the younger people based on nothing more than the fact that they're younger.
@mattc.310
@mattc.310 4 жыл бұрын
@@Cemi_Mhikku Points well taken. As I think through experiences it actually isn't necessarily an age thing, It's a personal thing. You are correct. There is a wide group of ages that have the issue. If anyone is hired to do jobs A, B, and C They should be able to successfully complete those tasks in a safe and timely manner. If something comes up that they can't figure out yet they should know to ask or research. The people who get hands-on and are taught or have critical thinking skills and are naturally curious can be successful in any field of endeavor. They will usually look deeper into an issue seeing that there may be other things involved than it might appear. It takes a certain amount of desire to see the work successfully completed and pride in the accomplishment. The problems arise when someone just doesn't know and doesn't want or think they need to ask or research so calls it good and "sends it out the door" so to speak. They get instruction, but can't apply it in a real-life situation. They are stuck in the book. There are too many variables. They are hired to do jobs A, B, and C, but can't successfully accomplish them. Shockingly perhaps, I have no problem with trade schools giving people a leg up in a new field. No one in the industries I am in and around does. Trade schools are a great resource. People entering the trades can get up to speed quickly and enter the workforce. We desperately need people in the trades. But as with any education, it's about the student's personality and drive to excel. Some will do well and some not. I have vast experience in the trades and have worked with all types and yes, all ages. Work to learn as much as you can and do what you can to bring the new hires up to speed. Thanks for the response. It reminds me of one of my favorite sayings that unfortunately gets lost sometimes in the noise. It's not age, color, sex. or any other demographic, it's all about attitude. Everything else will come if you have that right

It's a very nice interior. Blatant ripoffs are in other industries too. I'm in phone systems and a customer came to me for a second opinion on their phone system because their supplier said it wasn't compatible with the new internet in the area so the needed a new one which would cost them $15k over 5 years. The particular model of system they have is compatible and it even had the correct licensing in it so I got them converted across to the new Internet and new lines for about $600. They were happy.

Thanks for the shout out Scott, Jerry is so happy and I am sure he will be back when he needs more work done. For every one of these that turns out its less work seems like most of your other jobs have turned out to be more work than the client expected. It all goes around, and the client will continue to come back. I just had a client I did work for and he supplied a part, that turns out to be the wrong part. Unfortunately he is going to pay me to replace the part again because you can not tell that the part is wrong just by looking at it, so w had no way to know it was the wrong part until the supplier notified us it was wrong.

I imagine dye is not necessary with such a heavy leak, but it's great for finding those slow drips that blow around in the breeze. And you'd be amazed how many "technicians" (because mechanics tend to dig in and actually look) don't bother to pressure wash before diagnosing a leak. I'm so glad you were able to find and repair the oil leak and it turned out to be just a loose hose clamp. So glad the owner found the honest work and personal integrity of the Bus Grease Monkey. I'll echo an earlier commenter about the benefits of UV dye and a black-light flashlight. It's basically theft. If you have to steal to feed your kids, you shouldn't have had kids.

I would be more than happy to live in that Wanderlodge full time. As a young bachelor teacher I did live in a 50 foot single wide trailer. But about 6 feet of that 50 feet was the trailer tongue itself. Its plenty for me. This is a palace compared to that trailer.

Round our way (uk) if one takes a bit of equipment with an engine into somewhere, they usually spend an hour or so diagnosing, then estimate what is required, if you agree to have the work done, they explain again exactly what they are going to do and why. if you dont have it done you only pay for the diagnosing time.

It is so discouraging when you expect expert work done and they just start throwing parts at it and hope it fixes things , and doesn’t solve the problem is the worst of it . Thanks for helping this bus nut out .

I’ve seen some Bluebird prices in the same category as some far lesser RVs. If I was in the market for a large RV it would definitely be a Bluebird

Not all Bluebirds are Wanderlodge's, but all Wanderlodges are Bluebirds. Biggest downside to a WL is you can't get far off the pavement.

That horn at the end!! Completes the video! KONI part number was 90-2497SP1 I assume, not sure if one is adjustable and the other not or that just the valving is different. If adjustable, it should say on the tube close to the marking.

You are a good man Scott, and you sure as heck know the Detroits. I am 61 and disabled, and I still do as much as I can as far as maintenance etc. on our vehicles. There are good techs out there, but they are not as common as the ones who tried to screw your friend. That Bluebird is a thing of beauty, no doubt.

I went to get an oil change on my Subaru Impreza in 2008 and they said the clutch needed replacing. That was the first and last time I went there and my clutch is still fine to this day. They also stole my carbon air filter and denied that it was there. Oh, and the oil filter came loose and dropped oil over my girlfriends parents new driveway. Happy days 🤪👍

I know this is an older video but so true on overpriced RV repairs. Any place around here is ridiculous. Called to ask about alignment on our 2010 Roadtrek P210, baby RV built on Chevy Express 3500 with standard pitman/idler steering linkage. All brand new too. Quoted over $400. Found a small local shop that did an excellent job for $75. Just a small example of what the shops try to do with a captive owner base.
