Odds are it’s just because of the lack of a tag axel. The tag helps with weight but also keeps a coach tracking straight. Without a tag you wind up chasing the steering wheel…the wander some. A tag makes a big difference.

Scott. I’ve been fixing stuff for folks all my life. Usually the stuff others won’t or can’t fix. The belly laugh and happiness of ownership that is restored to an owner who has been missing the joy of ownership..., is one of the biggest rewards you can get... it’s, possibly, more gratifying than getting paid... well... .....maybe, kinda close...🤷🏻‍♂️👍

Like a lot of simple repairs it is nearly better to simply pull the engine. I worked on lots of DD92's in Orion and Prevost bus' got to where it took about 45 minutes to pull the engine. Also makes for steam cleaning the engine much easier.

I _'personally'_ (again, just for my own consideration), would be hesitant to put a non-ratcheting breaker/break-over bar, on the spinning end of any engine, that _'could'_ fire up. j/s Everything else has already been covered nicely here - that owner's happy, is great to see! Take care y'all! (edit) Yes, I gave this video, a thumbs-up!

I use the closed caption on these videos.. when the bus owner hit the jake brake.. the CC said (MUSIC) , I thought that was kool. An old mechanic (probably 40 yr old) told me 50 yrs ago when I was 17 & learning mechanical repair: He said "always check the simple s*** first on anything". Over the decades I learned he was correct.

"Jake", "Jake Brake", "Jacobs Engine Retarder" or "engine compression release brake" is a wonderful device that can save your life if properly used and maintained. One may be surprised to know that the 'father of the highway diesel engine', Mr. Clessie Cummins, designed & engineered its practical application & usage on todays road-going diesel engines.

A guy I know that runs a 318 (8v71) in his log truck ran a regular Cummins type micro switch to the throttle lever on an L Bracket in his truck for the Jake so it worked like a Cummins, IE Would kill the engine if you left the switch on. He did it when he added Jakes to the truck but never changed to a standard buffer switch because it worked just fine.
