In this episode I'm in the woods for a bushcraft breakfast. I also show you my new knife and trousers and take advantage of the late season's sap, still rising up the birch trees.

Very nice new items of kit Liam, nice fire lay and your bacon certainly looked good. A good point you make about leaning back against pine trees as they also attract ants due to the resin and can soon cover you lol. A great watch and listen. Thank you for sharing. Happy wandering. Paul :)

Casstrom are outstanding knives. I have a Swedish no.10 in stainless and a no.14 in Boehler carbon steel. I've used the no.10 for a few years and it has excellent edge durability, feels good in the hand even after hard use for hours. Thanks for your review, enjoy your video, all the best from Scotland. Thanks John, The Knife is doing well, it was just resharpened at the bushcraft show and is shaving sharp again. Has held up well & is now starting to get the patina of time on it.

Thanks for posting this video. I really felt I was there, enjoying the adventure. The trousers looked good, I will go along to my lodcal "Decathlon" and give them a try. I have the Casstrom "Forest Knife", which looks very similar to yours, though a fraction longer. Mine has an oak hilt, it is one of the very first ones, and was only available in oak at that time. I have used it extensively in the Scottish highlands, and am very pleased with it's performance. however, it was prone to rust, so I put a patina on it with vinegar. It is not shiny anymore, but as the patina wears a bit and settles down, it looks good. Anyway, no rust problems since, though I do take the precaution of drying the knife and oiling it with cooking oil from time to time. I am in the fortunate position of being able to go out whenever I like, being a senior citizen. Not only that, but my Scottish bus pass enables me to make use of busses and coaches anywhere in Scotland free.

Really glad that you liked the video and hope that you enjoy some of my future content, I bet the handle of your knife looks lovely with an oak handle! I'm going to have a look at putting a patina on my blade as I have noticed that it is prone to rusting if the sheath is even slightly damp. Thank you for the advice!
@Embrabrummie

Yes, knife looks good now it has that "used" appearance. I think you would not regret putting a patina on, tendancy to rust the only downside to this knife. Heavy snow here in Scotland, was able to get out in the hills yesterday, a great day. Happy New Year - I will be doing the NY Day sea swim.

+Anthony Taylor that's such a great bit of advice there! I noticed that it likes to rust slightly. I may give this a go and film the process. Thanks for your kind words too, glad you enjoyed the video. Have fun on your adventures!

+Shawn Robinson thanks for your comment and support! I've been enjoying the Woodsman alot. It feels lovely in the hand and I don't miss the length of the blade as much as I thought I would. It's in need of a full and proper sharpen now for the first time since buying so the blade has kept an edge well. I'm going to do a follow up video very soon on this so keep your eyes open for that :)

The Casstrom Woodsman is truly superb but for me 4 mm just doesn’t work, it’s too thick for carving and food prep. Otherwise the handle, blade length feel weight everything is perfect. I have the Bog Oak version which is not as flash as the birch version but is much easier to maintain and I think more durable. Also it’s really nice to have 5000 year old fossilised wood for a knife handle. One issue I did find was the grind was uneven at the tip of the blade but otherwise can’t fault it. I have have several bespoke knifes but came to conclusion that the Woodsman in 3mm AEBL with Bog Oak handle will be the ultimate, so I ordered one from Roger Harrington!

That's incredible and such a great idea to have one custom made by the man himself! I can agree with you that the thickness is the only 'downside' when competing finer works. Really appreciate you watching 😊

Excellent video my friend,you forgot to put a Brew on.Now a few questions why not bring a small pan for your bacon.Was there a problem with the Bushlore knife you had problems with making feather sticks,also the Hazel and Willow would make great stalking sticks.I'm just saying young man health is wealth keep enjoying yourself outdoors.I've just ordered the Casstrom no10 knife,big Scandi fan.Stay safe.

Thanks William, I just couldn't manage to hold a good edge on the bushlore, but that may be down to my sharpening setup at the moment needing a bit of a rejuvenation. I do actually have a small cast iron skillet that perfect for one egg or two pieces of bacon that I'll probably use in the next bushcraft breakfast ( coming very soon). Appreciate your comment!

Nice knife. A little too short for my liking, but still a good looking blade. Give that Condor some TLC man. It hurts just looking at it, lol. A knife tip that you may or may not know is that all knives should be wiped before being put back in the sheath, and they all should be lightly oiled when you get back from the field (especially of it doesn't have a blade coating). A knife should only be heavily oiled if you're going to store it a long time.
@PrimalNomad
@PrimalNomad 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, my condor got put away in a damp sheath once and forgotten, now it looks like that! Does need some time spent on it, waiting on some compound at the moment :) . I've already oiled my Woodsman and will be from now on. Thanks for watching!
