That stick is such a great idea. So funny how a no nonsense simple idea could actually make a huge advantage. Was watching the “alone” series which is my version of trash tv. People who were struggling for clean water but had plenty of rain would have done well with that

Even though i am now too old to do this, i have to say, having done this in my younger years, that your channel, Corporals Corner, is one of the best, why? Because you actually take the time to explain what shelter, etc, you are going to make and how you are going to make it along with all the items required to make that shelter. Then fire, very important as i love to watch the Food cooking aspect of these videos as well. Im an ex British Soldier of the '80's living in the Netherlands and really enjoying your posts. Im temporarily homeless so this helps alot. One of the the best survivalist/bushcraft/camping channels on youtube. I made an a-frame tarp lastnight and have another tarp and thick foam pad as a bed, along with a 30°F sleeping bag. Right now im working a job and nobody knows im homeless. Money goes alot further like this and this camping bushcrafting is really growing on me so that i dont know if i would actually want to get my own place when i have the money. Lol. Im an unconventional homeless guy because i dont use drugs or drink or steal but i work and keep my clothes and self clean. Plus i stay clean shaven and comb my hair in such a way that nobody would suspect im living in the woods.

I'm sure even Marines had to learn to cut a shallow rain trench around the shelter, pile the dirt against the shelter to seal off the interior, and trench to the downhill side and away from the shelter? I'm from the Shelter-Half era Army, and this was absolute with the tent. I still camp with a minimum shelter, and have never been wet inside.

A really useful tip for a campfire in the rain is you could build another one of those spitroast supports, with the two Y -sticks and the cross member stick, about 2 or 3 feet from the first one. Then, lay a bunch of wet sticks or branches across the two. This will not only cover the fire and protect it from the rain but the fire will also dry out the wood pretty quickly and allow it to be used in the fire. So, as this wood dries out, throw it in the fire and replace it with more wet sticks/branches. I've done this countless times and it's always worked wonders for me. Like any fire, take necessary precautions and supervise it, and make sure not to have it too close to the fire or you'll have an unexpected bonfire.

One of my favorite ways to start a fire using the things that are probably in my kit. Use two sheets of toilet paper and some hand sanitizer, the TP is more of a wick and the hand sanitizer as a fuel and will burn surprisingly long because the sanitizer is in a gel form.

I spend 10 months each year in the backcountry of Colorado with just a medium size backpack, the more one knows the less one needs, for me tents are cold in winter hot in summer, never use them. I leave civilization in September come back around June or so. I prefer a horseshoe shaped fire pit with sides about 18" high , open section directly in front of my shelter (wickiup, or tarp, etc.) directly under front of tarp ,(white man build big fire sit far away, Indian build small fire sit close). With with wind break on sides an back from shelter, heat reflects off high fire pit walls. Advantages, with front of pit open I can feed 4' and up logs in to fire pit and save energy and time sawing etc.(which I do not take saw etc.) I can also keep flames in back and rake coal to front to cook on, I prefer to cook on coals, cleaner for pot(only on small ss pot) and other uses and their are no rocks in my way. In the middle of cold night I can slide logs into fire without getting up. Never has fire burned past edge of opening, and tarp edge is not burned at all because I control the fire, there is an art to it that many weekenders(no offense at all, I started in Jr high have to learn sometime) do not even think about. I live out there fall, winter, and spring, am always warm and comfortable, love it. I guess (I am 60 and still doing this way of life) I did things opposite of the trend these days in that as a kid I took along the basic backpack gear but at the same time studied primitive skills while camping, then I made a rule to leave one modern item at home on purpose and replace it with skill learned, eventually I went with what I could keep in just my pockets for months at a time. The FREEDOM I felt of not relying on stores, gear, heavy packs, etc back then makes my time in the Colorado backcountry to this day.a comfortable, adventurous amazing lifestyle. Less is More, Keep it Simple, More one knows Less one needs, be safe ya all have fun, ..P.S. good show!!!!!

old boy scout tip I used to do as a boy. Soap the bottom of all your cooking pots and pans. Once your done cooking with them you can flip them upside down in the rain and the rain will wash all the black suit off of the bottom of your pots clean as they were when you arrived. Great video. thanks.

Hy pal from the UK. Keep doing what your doing. Forget the keyboard warrior idiots. You seem to have taken idiots harsh comments to heart in the past. Forget that m8. You're a sound bloke and have a halfway decent sense of humour (: Seriously, don't listen to any tossers that rip on you. I'd like to see them irl. Probably don't know a bowline from a xbox's controller. Chin up m8

Hey bro all good if you never see this but a bit of advice.... if you fry off the tomato paste in the pan before adding it to the rice you'll get a richer and more intense tomato sweetness and flavour

Looks great only one thing you can consider is to make small channel around tent so in case hard rain you don't get water under tent

I myself love rain, although there are years that we get too much😂 your videos are very informative & as someone who used to enjoy camping in a tent with the sounds & smells, this was great😁

TY for doing a video where it rains. In the pacific north west camping is always either 90% rain, or 50% rain if you're lucky. Watching all these youtube videos where rain isn't a concern is strange.

Thank you very much . Using the falling down of the rain drops to wash is fantastically a great idea . And I also love your ending style very very much . May 10th 2022 Tue. 07:21 am from Yokohama City Japan

I use a slightly different version of the same bowline knot, but otherwise this is pretty solid... even for a Corporal of the USMC. Nice work! - a Corporal of the US Army

Thank you. In this video, I finally practiced tying the first knot you demonstrated instead of just watching. I also ordered a different ferro rod from the AIP. The H20 collection was excellent.
