From one Canuck to another, awesome channel and amazing workmanship Shawn! Thanks for all the time you spend on camera work and editing. When you take on a task you really don't mess around! What a talent. I love that spoon. My mom had a large wooden bowl that she had for years. Oh how I wish I had it. My sister in law took it from the house when mom died. I alway wanted it. When I was around six my grandfather gave me a jackknife. He told me never to play with it but to keep it safe in a box. Till this day it's put away in a special box. Pearl white. I take it out every once in a while just to hold it and think of him. He was a special man. Like you, he could do everything. He had the old homestead. That was his job. He raised and fed three kids on what the farm provided. I can still see him in my minds eye sitting on the front porch whittling with that little pearl knife. Then he handed it too me as a keepsake. Now I'm real old and ready to decide which grandchild to give it to. Granny Fan

Hey Shawn, seeing how much trouble you were having on the hook knife... do you have any wine or beer bottles that are tapered at the neck ? If so, wrap your finest sandpaper/leather strop around that for a circular, close fitting sharpener. Was thinking of Dick Proenneke the whole time you were carving that spoon ! He'd be proud of what you're doing.

I am truly impressed with all of your vids!! I had to do some off-grid living in my late 30's & though, never built anything from "scratch", other than digging out the rocks from my campsite, to have a place to park my car & walk on smooth dirt, barefoot; it was the best years of my life, looking back! The ex & I had "running water" from carrying it in & dumping it into a barrel...to lights, run off batteries, & kept it clean to the point that when the police ran us outta the property (yes, we did acquire permission from the land-owner), they said they were impressed by what we had accomplished & done. Unfortunately, they still didn't want us there, so ran us off. Oh but for the memories, though! I really enjoy your experience & what you share with everyone.
