Thanks for watching! Before you get too upset with the commercial, please know that I only use and endorse products and services that I really believe in and that I would use regardless of the support from the brand. As you know, I am a strong proponent of continuing education and self improvement and there are some key tools I use myself to contribute to my self reliance. On that note, starting next week, I'll be uploading a video series called something along the lines of "52 Weeks to Self Reliance" (in addition to my regular wilderness homestead videos) in response to the overwhelming number of private requests I get to provide mentorship. Up until recently, I did provide business consulting and personal coaching services that not only helped people improve their lives, it helped fund my own life change to simplification. I really don't have the time to provide one on one mentoring any longer. Instead, I would rather give everyone access to all of the tips, tricks and tools I used to pay back the creditors so I'm no longer $750,000 in debt, get back on my feet financially, reduce stress and dedicate my life to things I truly believe in, like simple living, getting back to nature and helping people. Thank-you so much for your support and patience. I'll see you next week here at the cabin.

My Self Reliance I know some people will take it the wrong way, but I appreciate the format you used. I know Audible is a regular part of my life, and seemed much more sincere and was much less obnoxious than the normal "sponsored by:" section. That said, if it becomes a regular feature I think I would rather it have its own section (lindybeige does a great job with it) to keep it from seeming insincere after a while. I think I might feel differently about it if it was a physical product, but I appreciate anything that gets people exposed to new knowledge and I do happen to think your new sponsor is a great way to do it, plus it is something that will not end up in a landfill someday.

Shawn, one of the things I like about your work is the way you work. Obviously you have great talent in many areas and we learn a lot by watching you. But I like the way you always cleanup as you go along. Many DIY ers make a mess and don't clean up. Cleanup is always part of the project as is safety and you project that well. Firstly I love copper secondly using age old technique is wonderful to see. I am a disabled woman and my heart yearns for my body of old. Now days I've have to find ways to make my days better. That might mean using my new electric wheel chair without fear .maybe that means pruning what I can in my garden even playing with my dog. He loves the garden hose ,we play and water the garden at the same time. Your right we each need to find what makes us happy. Good job on the sink I love it xoxoh and cally playing in the snow ,wonderful

Tresa Lamb smiles oh yes I do find ways around things, I've been heading toward full time wheelchair for some yrs and it's finally here. Funny most people say they don't like change but life is fluid and constantly changing. I watch these channels because I love seeing people going after their dreams. I've already lived them and my memories carry me a long way, God bless and have a wonderful day xoxox

I am still in a "manual" wheelchair, hemiplegic left side, tbh, moving takes the "work" energy right out of my right arm. I am trying to save for an electric wheelchair. Limited to my little porch and no access to my garden, sooo, I just brought the garden to me, potted plants are filling most of the space. Experimenting with growing fruit trees from whatever fruit I can. I have friends on small holdings and farms, I will send most of the little trees to them as my actual garden will be too small for all the trees I get growing😂

Hsp is progressive and I recently had work done on my back and now my left leg is useless . I do understand the physical stress it takes to move about. Your little garden sounds wonderful. I am about to start planting fruit trees myself. I want an orange and lemon for my grandsons I have a passionfruit vine that will bare fruit next summer, anyway good talking stay safe xoxoxo

Granted wouldn't be a lot, but would give a nice added glow. Appreciate the thoughts of keeping a balanced life & accomplishing things in a steady pace. Folks tend to go to one extreme or the other. I have really enjoyed watching your youtube videos. I've always loved working with my hands reparing mechanical equipment, building furniture, making items for my house and even taking on things I've never done before. You mentioned balance in your life and I, in hindsight, can say you are right. I have always in my younger years been driven to work, many times being consumed by my work and that was not good. Many people let only their work define their life and that is not a good way to live. I look back with regret now at how work defined my life and now it's a little late to change now. I really don't have much chance to change as I am now a full time sole caregiver to my wife Julianna who has been paralyzed the waist below now for the tenth year. Taking care of my wife takes most of my time and the remainder of my time I have a hard time motivating myself due to depression and anxiety. Viewing your videos helps me to escape my world and place myself as if I was in your world. It's as if I am out in the back country building that log cabin living a simpler life. A good days hard work using your hands and your wit's is a great way to de-stress your life. I would really like to do that, but being a care giver to someone that needs as much care as my wife doesn't leave me much time for myself. As I was saying watching your series of video brings me great joy and peace. Self reliance is a great trait for one to possess. So many people today can not live a life as you do, but if they could it would be the greatest experience anyone could have. Watching you building your cabin using hand tools as the pioneers would have used back in the time before electricity and power tools takes more patience and skill than most folks can muster. I look forward to watching more videos as you progress on your cabin. Cali your dog is wonderful to watch. She must bring you great companionship. I too have a gog Miles that is my shadow and goes most anywhere I go. Keep going with your videos, they can teach a lot of folks to learn new skills and see there are better ways to live than 9 to 5 day after day.

I started a journal this year where I write about what I work on each day. I talk about what I am making and what it looks like and keep track of how long it takes me to complete it. I have loved art and needlework my whole life. I have to work on something every day or I am not happy. Kind of like what you said about days when you don't accomplish anything. I like what you said about that and it inspired me even more. I am one of those who cannot physically walk but I try at least once a week to go to my favorite park here in Eureka, CA. It is the Sequoia Park and is only a few streets away. When you drive in it looks ordinary. But the further you drive in the road starts to go down below street level and winds around inside this huge forest of redwoods and sequoias. It transforms into this amazing world that I love!! This forest here also makes me happy. I can't describe it and I can't get enough of it. I only wish I could walk through it. There are many trails throughout. On one of our drives into it I took a short video with my phone so I can watch it whenever I want to. Your sink is coming out wonderful. I like that you used copper. I also loved watching Cally (not sure how you spell her name) as she was sitting in the snow eating a stick lol! I enjoy watching her when she is there with you. Have a nice weekend, Sharon :)

I'm a retired custom sheet metal fabricator and I've worked quite a bit on items very similar. Usually flower boxes or custom gutters. You did a good job. I noticed that you were having trouble with your iron. Hint: clean it with file then hit it with the flux and rub some solder on it. Then you can reheat it. You'll probably have longer uses between cleaning if you heat in the flame not the coals. Also you will have better solder joints if you lay the iron on top of the 3/4" flange and heat the copper. It will draw the solder back under the flange. I hope that you realize that it will oxidize and will be tough to maintain??? Ps. you can do the same with stainless steel. You'll just need silver solder and better snips. Keep up the good work. You're inspiring

To all those who like to criticize everything and anything . I don't get why you have a problem with Shawn telling you what he likes or he does not .All those videos he has made have shown you what is possible to do if you have the motivation and of course the skills .He has build this cabin just with those skills cuz he wanted to follow his dream. He is who he is just because of what he likes or he doesn't and listening to stories thru 'audible ' is one of those things he likes so what's the big deal here ? If he said he likes Heineken and not Corona beer would you criticize him again cuz life is all about choices ? Look at everything around him he has materialized thoughts and ideas into a physical reality !!! And if any of you who like to whine and complain all the time but cant achieve and build exactly what he has done so far you don't have the right to criticize him till you can do the same as him and till that happens (if ever) you got a choice either watch and learn from his videos or go and watch Teletubbies for example.

I love your videos. It reminds me of growing up in Washington State. Living in Texas now makes me so homesick and I’ve been here for 35 years. Oh to be in the woods. 😢 chopping cords of wood, cooking over the camp fire & being self reliant. I’m glad you’re living your dream.

Awesome as usual...funny thing...I hate commercials on the tv, but I enjoy them when legit KZbinrs do them, like you and Joe Robinet, I'm happy to watch them for you guys because I enjoy your content and I want to support your efforts. F Hollywood and celebrities, they're going to discover that no one needs or eventually no one wants them. Tv is dead...KZbin is infinitely better

When I was younger my Dad bought lumber from Dunn fairly regularly for his own DIY projects. I enjoy your videos and the few ads I see here don't bother me so don't sweat the small stuff.

Cabins looking great Shawn. I just finished building a deck at our place although I cheated and used my power tools. Thank you for your inspiration and encouragement.

The one thing I would really like to see more of is your wife.i am a woman myself of same age and I would love to hear her input and see her gratification and touches she has contributed, I truly think it would inspire other woman to simple life and self reliance.

Totally agree w/ your perspective - LIFE IS SO SHORT THAT MOST PEOPLE WONT SEE IT UNTIL LOOKING BACK! Fish when you can & keep the home cooked meals coming your work ethic is indeed intact - Enjoy your life friend...

Enjoyed the video as always :) Don't worry about the haters. I look at it this way. A sponsorship helps keep these videos coming, and the fact that it's a product we can utilize to expand our education is a plus. Had you gone completely off grid, we wouldn't be able to experience your awesome videos. I truly appreciate all the hard work you put into recording, editing, and sharing your videos on top of all the hard work you put into building your cabin and teaching valuable information. Keep up the good work and Thank You!

When does it become hateful to acknowledge you dislike the Audible plug? Save yourself the money and go to a public library. You can download as many titles via OverDrive and it won't cost you a cent.

Amazing work Shawn I have watched all your videos over the past couple months and look forward to them every week!!! I am just starting to build my off grid self reliant homestead in northeastern Ont. Which I started last year, Its funny because i wasn't going to go back until next summer but after all your winter camping videos I'm going up within the week. All your videos have motivated me to start recording my journey and maybe share it with the world. Thanks for being someone great for people to look up to! Peace

Another great video!! Love your dedication to using nothing but hand tools. I watch and half the time I start thinking about how much easier it would be to use a jigsaw or a cordless drill or some other power tool. The cabin is really come a long way since the dirt floor and an open roof. Awesome, just pure awesome!!

Beautiful intro and always a great YT Video to look forward to watch every Friday! Amazing skills you are mastering Shawn! Thank you so very much again Shawn for sharing the interesting process of finishing your new Homestead and the kitchen region in your cosy log cabin! Wishing you and your family and of course also Cali a happy weekend! (Happiness is a cup of green Matcha tea and enjoying it in a really well built and good looking Homestead, of an off grid log cabin! Thumbs up! )

I’m the same way. I find it so satisfying to get much accomplished everyday. I now have health issues that keeps me from doing what I usually but I still find it challenging to do what I can…. I push myself to more than my limits. Ppl don’t understand how much I love to work to see what I can accomplish. You are so talented and what I admire is you do not waste your talents! God Bless!

Watching your videos is mesmerizing. Glimpsing the snow covered woods through the windows from the warmth of the cabin. The way you work and cook so casually and yet so efficiently. All in all very informative and enjoyable videos.
