Man I think those magnesium capsules are so cool. That looks like a pretty sweet setup for $20.

When it comes to fire kits , I enjoy making my own fire kit. I want to see a repair kit or a kit that has improvised uses.

Wish they had these when I started out. Took me forever to find most of these items and ended up costing more than 20 bucks. Great item. Great video review.

Great review of a Kit I think would be fantastic for someone just getting started in Camping. There are some things in there that really look good, (Fire Steel, Tinders, Magnesium Capsules.) as well as some things I'm not in need of. (Lighter, Bow Drill Sets.) Then again I have my own skills, just as everyone out there does. (As an example, I never did learn to use a Bow Drill. On the other hand I have used a Flint and Steel Kit since I was a kid.) Keep up the reviews, I enjoy watching them. Ed

I got one of these and a hunting and fishing kit from them. I can't wait to use it

A lot of good stuff there. For someone that is just starting its great. When you start to exhaust this stuff you can go to a dollar store and get a lot of the same stuff but a whole lot more of it to replace for cheap. All I use on a regular basis now is fatwood, but I do have most of this other stuff in my fire kit. Big 4lb bag of fatwood at Menards or Lowes $7.

Excellent....only thing I would add is a couple of strips of bicycle inner tube for fire in extreme wet conditions

Thanks for the info, I bought this fire kit and I also bought the fishing and hunting kit and the first aid kit, AWESOME product. Except the so called knife of course. LOL

I use to have a knife just like that one. Wasn't much good but did work really good as a fingernail cleaner!

The wire also stops the loss of fuel if accidentally packed tightly against something in that bag. And yea I put wire on my lighter as well

Can't beat it for $20. I have one. I don't have an issue with the quality of the knife considering its price. Everything be so solid I personally wasn't expecting much out of the knife.

Really not bad for $20.A crappy knife is not a spoiler for me cause the rest of the kit is good stuff. Thanks. ZZ.

Thanks for another great review Luke, that looks like a really cool kit . Luke have you ever tried Fritos corn chips to start a campfire? They burn for a few minutes, helps to dry your kindling out when it is wet . I put some in my fire kit when I have some to go stale .

try slicing off the tip of the capsule with a very sharp knife. That should allow you to pour the mag. shavings out without much issue.

Nice video Luke. I like the kit too. The knife is not that big a deal. Happy New Year to you and your family. Don't you think you could just cut the capsules in half instead of pulling apart? Just an idea. Look forward to more videos in the new year. Strength and honor. Feed the good wolf.

Wild nature Adventure I don't think so, magnesium is very soft. How did you find out it was magnesium.

Hi Luke, another great video. Thats probably one of the best (none DIY) fire kits I've seen. P.S. Now that you have a great new knife (that you love) with this kit. If you want, I can take any spyderco knives you have off your hands. lol

I am sure you know this, but if you use the cable saw as the blade in a bow saw setup, it lasts longer. They break quickly if used without the bow. Not the best, but better than nothing in a pinch. JMHO.

TheOutdoorGearReview yeah they have, the fire boss, the shelter boss, the water boss and the list goes on. The shelter boss is ok but could use a few thing to make it a better kit but all in all the boss kits are BOSS. Lol

Haha that knife is a bit small but I guess you could hone it a bit. The saw is my least favorite. I have tried to use one before and it can be be unruly at times... I will review one that was given to me over the holidays which uses actual saw chain. Should be interesting lol

Hi, Could you provide a link to your video explaining about adding wire to a BIC lighter. A great idea. I could add to the duck tape I usually wrapped around my lighters
@arkansasexplorer16245 жыл бұрын
The wire saw works alot better if you use a stick and make it into a bow, then use it like a buck saw.
@N0tRe1aly7 жыл бұрын
I think there intent for the wire was to prevent the gas from leaking since it is packed with a bundle of other instruments. But to each its own.

Thanks for the info - I like that fire kit, but I just took a workshop on winter camping and they suggested a lighter, waterproof matches, cotton balls & vaseline. I wonder if all that stuff is necessary? Or only necessary in some conditions (as you mentioned with the tea lights)? I need to learn more about fire starting.
@appalachianoutdoorsman57214 жыл бұрын
Cottonballs and vaseline is messy, use cotton makeup pads dipped in wax. Theyre better to carry on person.
@gloriarousseau7579Ай бұрын
Greetings …that pencil sharpener looks like it ifs made from magnesium. If so yo can also scrape off magnesium shavings to help start your fire. Good fires to all.

Base on YOUR video I ordered the fire kit, shelter kit and water purification kit. MY fire kit did NOT come with a magnifier. Also, the hefty knife though dull did NOT come with my kit. I got a cheap razor blade in a flimsy plastic case. WHY are YOUR contents different than mine?
@TheOutdoorGearReview7 жыл бұрын

Too much crap to "bug out" with, and a gallon of coleman fuel would be a better choice for bugging in with. Realistically, it looks like a fun kit to play around with various fire starting methods for bushcraft/backpacking.
@larrykramer60577 жыл бұрын
Kind of overdoing the fire starting thing, I think. Why not just lug a gallon of Coleman fuel which will make a fire out of a dead fish.
