Hey Flix, thx for the input! I think, I´ll give the Buchenborke a try tomorrow, if weather isn´t too wet´n´windy here. I only knew from the Skand-Lands about beech slices or sticks, that are used very often as ersatz for candles or torches, because they burn down so pretty slowäy, while creating a nice bright flame. Against the Dark- With Beechy Bark!! Aber jetzt kommts!!: I think, here I got a tiny challenge for you... A challenge to learn, in my opinion: the most powerfull, the worlds easiest and the most variable and highly experimentable technique to start a fire within minutes, with nothing more than some natural fibres like common white cotton, coconut hairs, denim or yute; only in addition with some dry wooden ashes, some rust or powdered charcoal? With no help from any bowdrill, nor from any kind of firestone and also no lenses or parabolics?? Then I really recommend you, to investigate and research about the "Fire Roll Technique" Sadlywise still to this day, the knowledge about this absolutely efficient technique is very rare shared.... But in my eyes, it is really worthy it, spreading this special skill all over the communities ala Survival/Outdoor/Bushcraft/Life Hacking and so on. By far the best adress to get into making fire rolls, is the chanel from David West, here on yt. Hope you´ll like it. cheerz!

The beech works good, but birch is much easier to ignite. I do love how you think outside of the box if you will. Very refreshing. I don’t like to follow the status quo myself. I love how your mind works brother. To bad I’m American living in Australia and I believe your in Switzerland. We could have a blast together! When I lived back home in America I loved going camping and improvising a campsite. I’d go with minimal gear, and use nature and things I found to improve things. Good times. I used to carry a iron skillet with a back pack with salt and pepper, butter, maybe flour while trout fishing the small creeks. Catch a few fish and make lunch on the riverside. It was and now is magical memories for me.

You SHOULD be proud! This is a genuine "new" tip and, as I always say, sets your channel apart from the rest of the field. (that's a Kentucky horse racing term for being the one to place your bet on) Is a beech tree a nut bearing tree? We have trees that I have heard called beech nut trees and the nuts are edible by humans, but I just don't know if that is the same a beech tree. One of the problems that I have encountered is finding videos that help to identify trees that are KNOWN to be useful for bushcrafting. Seasonal tips for identifying such trees by bark, height, trunk diameter, general tree shape, the shape of the leaves, etc, would be every bit as helpful as knowing what the trees can be used for, maybe even more helpful, since you can't use the tree if you can't identify it first. I assume it would be a huge undertaking and that's why I haven't seen it done, but reporting on every single use for a SAK was a huge task, initially, for the man who does it best, I'm sure. (That would be you, in case the meaning was lost in translation, LOL) Maybe you and your friend Ben could collaborate on a project to create videos like that. I live in the USA and may not have the same trees that you have there, but the woodsmen in your area would certainly benefit from the work and it might inspire KZbinrs over here to try the same thing if they saw success in your efforts. Ciao!

This is an interesting argumente, thank you. Were I live, in the hills of Tuscany, the woods are almost oak trees, we call it Cerro, the wood is very good for make fire and it is what we use for fire places and wood stoves, but the bark is thick and it doesn't burn well in my experience (but I can be wrong, I'm not an expert) fortunately there are many dead pine trees around my house so I usually collect fatwood that I use to make fire for my stove and my barbecue. Simple life, in contact with the nature, it is all I need to feel happy.
@FelixImmler2 жыл бұрын
Yes... it's alo my experince, that oak bark doesn't burn. But fatwood is perfect!
@RangerPhantomSAS2 жыл бұрын
Great info as always Felix. We have a lot of cedar trees in our area. I love using the cedar as you can remove strips of the bark for birds nests, or you can take small branches to make fuzz sticks. The oils make it very combustible and the harder you blow on the fire, it's not likely to blow out and will catch and burn hotter to ignite more of itself or other woods.
