Bushcraft in Sweden: Birch bark sheath & the big Grasshopper

In Sweden on a bushcraft trip. This is the last of 3 separate videos.
I make a birch bark sheath, we spot a seldom behavior from a big grashopper, fish and enjoy beautiful Sweden.

Musen:
My dog eats raw chicken every night. Besides that she has dry food available all day.
Musen (the mouse) is a labradoodle
She is half brown labrador and half black/white toy poodle.
Her real name is Effie, but i only use that when her hearing is bad. ;)

Hello my young friend. As always enjoy your adventures. Confined as I am but inspired by your videos I finally ordered a fire starting rod and striker. Since there are no birch trees here I tore a small piece of paper towel on my desk top and vigorously worked the striker, which worked magnificently. Not only did I manage to start the scrap of paper on fire but also the whole roll of paper towels. Amazing how fast I made it to the front door to toss it outside. Wife took away my kit. Now I am going to order some carving knives and make a wooden cup. Take care of Mousen and yourself, best wishes always, hope to see more videos soon!

Haha!!! I love it. :D maybe carve a spoon and give it to her, as the first. So she dont throw the carving gear out. :D ....find fatwood for the striker, that is my favorite, its a bit harder to ignite, but burns along time. :)

I like making these sheathes out of cardboard (wine boxes work well). All the birch trees in New Zealand seem to be in peoples yards. NZ flax/harakeke would be even better, but that's just found in gardens outside NZ. :)

We here in the US call those grasshoppers locusts, that's what decimated our wheat in the late 70's early 80's, they absolutely demolished 100's of thousands of crops. Then our government had the bright idea to genetically screw it up and people wonder why most Americans are overweight. Wheat is part 2 of the problem but the first one is US citizens are lazy. NEW subscriber, appreciate the videos. Love them. Oh also where I live in eastern Kentucky we don't have much berch but alitnof locust trees and oak. Oak isn't real easy to work with but it sure does burn well and smells good

Soren👍👍 Now that's what I would say is the perfect way to enjoy life, fishing, camping, forest, relaxing, delicious meals, warm fires, good friend and of course your best friend too. Of course Sweden and all of Scandinavia is beautiful, I should visit your lands sometime. A sad thing, but there are no birch trees here in the desert southwest US, bummer no chaga. The knife sheath turned out nice, a good skill to have using the flexible bark for needed items. Great video, well done as always. Thanks for the work and for sharing. See you next time. Enjoy!
