Oh, my friend built a nice log house. That's great. That's a great challenge. Thanks for inviting me to your friend's nice log house.

A GREAT VIDEO: This style of shelter was prevalent and popular and practical in the New England States of America, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. In New England, the front log/flooring was humorously called a 'deacons' bench.' The old campers would 'preach' to the young ones about bushcraft while comfortably seated by the fire! We did not have 'living roofs' on those constructions. Later, they were built about two logs higher, giving more room inside at the back. The overhangs were a bit extended: the back included the feature you built at the side: a raised log store under cover. There was more cover at the front for sitting under shelter. THIS HAS BEEN A FINE PROJECT!

@James Ellsworth as a New Englander I concur... side note, when I was watching him hog out & chisel the logs I was also reminded of the "Alone in the Wilderness" videos 👍

It is a thing of beauty. This design never really caught on in England, because commoners weren't allowed to fell mature trees. They could only take the things they could get 'by hook, or by crook'

The lean-to shelters here in Maine along the Appalachian trail are built exactly as James described. I’ve stayed in quite a few. Great times.

Love the shelter and that's a nice saw! My dad was good with hand tools and he would buy the best ones he could afford. I would follow him around as he worked in the basement of our home and he would explain the different tools and what they were used for and why. He had a lathe that would turn wood, or metal and, when I was very little, I would play with the shiny metal curls from his metal working. I would get fragments of the metal stuck in my hands and fingers, but that happened less and less as I learned to be more careful. Dad never got impatient with me, even though I must have gotten in his way at times.
