Great job, ignore the trolls, Great example of a long term shelter, calm patient building with a purpose is all it takes and I love the zip ties for ease of assembly. way better than lashings for a light framework example. I just wish you would post more

I used to do road work, I did all the silt fence. I hammered and put it in properly every time, but when I needed to repair it, I used zip ties. Zip ties hold up just fine and they are fast, however, they are not for very long term, since they degrade with the sun. For just getting it done though till you add more permanent solutions such as steel wire, they would work fine on a shelter.
@twocrow11 жыл бұрын
I think the lesson here is to always carry a saw blade, a big axe and a lot of zip ties just in case, because you never know.

Whoa whoa....HOLD ON your cheating. You heard the trolls you can't use zip ties. Or an axe or a knives or anything made after the medieval times. No, no....your supposed to chew that wood apart and tie it together with vines. And a real man doesnt need an axe he just punches those trees down. Yeah that's right. That's what a real man does........ I guess he was supposed to make a 4 1/2 hr video tying everything together with string. Grow up idiots. Your gonna give him cap because he used zip ties, even though his shelter will last for years and your little shelter would probably fall down if a bird flew by it. I'm sick of trolls. This guy has forgotten more about bushcraft than most of you will ever know.

Everybody watching knows the guy can tie knots. They gotta blow BS about something cause they are armchair experts. That's what they do. I've built similar shelters. It's not an easy task. Finding material and prep is the hardest part in my opinion. I wish he would have spent more time on this.

@starblazer6413 жыл бұрын
You can use spruce roots instead of zip ties but try to limit it to two per tree.
@BackcountryPatriot12 жыл бұрын
Thats why you have camps prebuild and concealed in different bug out locations so you don't have to worry about it. If you want a fast shelter just go with some bungee cords, tent states, 550 cord and a tarp. You can thrown the thing up in a couple minutes and have it down in 30 seconds. This is a long term shelter.
@DangerDad2914 жыл бұрын
@greenhorns99 i would hope most going out into any wilderness would at least bring a useful knife and some cord. paracord is nice but just a roll of twine is good too. think the cable ties were just to hold everything in place for the demo
@werewolf21200111 жыл бұрын
what length are your zip ties or cable ties that you use i am trying to find the right ones for this shelter and would really like to know which size i should use and how many i should use for it
@ClearAdventure6 жыл бұрын
You can get 1,000 of them from Walmart for $14. I am sure they ship everywhere. And they come in many sizes/lengths in that tall plastic jar.
@WSRandSurvival14 жыл бұрын
where are you getting all of this straight wood?
@guyfarran335611 жыл бұрын
I think what he's done is brilliant and I don't see why he's getting so much shit over using cable ties.. If you're going to go wandering around a forest you don't know very well then you bring a kit with you.. simple. you don't go empty handed unless you're a complete fool or know the area well and are some sort of bush craft master. (Even though I carry para cord in my kit I will be putting cable ties in my kit as well after watching this! If you need to built a shelter in a hurry and you have freezing cold hands you aren't going to want to be messing around tying knots + I'm sure there are hundreds of uses for zip ties in a survival situation e.g clamping a severed artery or if you have thick ones then I reckon you could carve a fishing hook out of one without too much trouble! The possibilities are endless as long as you use your imagination!) Plus this is just giving people a rough idea (you can build exactly the same without using zip ties, axes and saws! You can use roots, vines or thin strips of young tree bark if you have too!) and he's using them to save time instead of us having to wait for him to tie every knot then cut the cord and then seal it 50 times over. Although if you are in a real survival situation you should try to avoid cutting wood and try collecting it off the ground to save your much needed calories. Please ignore the ignorant unprepared people. They obviously lack imagination and the mindset to survive if they cannot think for themselves to just use something other than zip ties.. You sir shall be receiving my like and I hope you have more videos I can check out, Keep up the good work!

hardware store. think of it as a plastic 'hand cuff' w/ a one way ratchet. they can make fast work puttin stuff together, but when startin a zip tie you cant undo it, you have to cut it.
@ClearAdventure6 жыл бұрын
You can undo them. Just stick the tip of a knife blade flat against the pin in the hole that catches the tie, and it will slide right out.

tie wire,,or even hemp string would be more my flavor.. but plastic zip ties?? maybe police grade =P.... oh and the roof angle should be shorter and steeper.. just saying or water will build up and roof repair looks certain.. and the rain does blow up,down,left,right, anyways just saying i kinda do this on the normal so i had to comment. .. nice attempt thow at saving time and calories haha .
@shamasi196811 жыл бұрын
I see your point, but as this video is not "lost in woods" but is instead, "building long term shelter" I am assuming that you would go in prepared. Plus, between my DH, sons, and I there are 5 vehicles and in each there is a pack of multi-sized zip ties. Along with two survival blankets, two regular blankets, 20 tea light candles, 4 tea light candle holders made of Veinna Sausage cans, one small sauce pan, nut rolls, sunflower seeds, and bottled water. This is my idea of survival just in case.

I don't have a million but I have a couple hundred. They go camping with me just in case, along with duct tape, electrical tape, jute twine, cotton twine, 550 cord, and random shoe strings. There is a lot of usefulness in all of that for very little weight.
