"Compassion for animals is intimately associated with goodness of character, and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man." Arthur Schopenhauer... I love how you treat your dog as family. You are a good man.

Dave, Great vid. I love how you DON'T run Rufus during the filming. A dog is like a little brother that just happens to be naked all the time and occasionally uses his tongue for T.P. You embrace your little buddy in all your endeavors, from blacksmithing to cookin' there's always a red shadow near. So you know it ain't just about some vittles..... he just wants to do whatever big brother is doin' at the time. Please keep doin' what yer' doin'.......your formula is working. Thank you for bringing your expertise, information, and products to us. God bless you and yours in any of lifes adventures.

The look that rufus has while you are slicing the sausage was classic. He was thinking, you don't need to do anything more than to stick it on a plate for me and im good!! That looked delicious. nice to learn some different dishes for the trail. When I carry food with me (I almost always do) I tend to mix up the ingredients before I leave home (those that can be mixed) and just stick them into ziplock bags, it takes up slightly less space that way, and I'll have less garbage after. Thought I share one of the things I bring with me that is great. Oatmeal: in 2 bags Bag 1: I mix Oats with a bit of oil, sugar & salt, put that in a ziplock bag Bag 2: Hazel nuts, almonds & raisins. Heat the water to a roaring boil add the first bag stir and let it simmer for 5-10 mins depending on how you like your oat meal. Add the second bag and let it cool for 5 minutes so the nuts, almonds & raisins give off flavor to the rest but doesn't get overcooked. Enjoy What is your favorite trail food?

Dave cuts the sausage through the plastic. Dave: Let the haters... Hate. We need a lot more of this attitude in these kind of videos on the net, because there's a lot of ugly trolls under the bridges here that want to go crazy on good people's videos because they can. You are rocking the packer food Dave, it is always nice to see that you can cook with modern day food items as well.

Glad to see you doing a Cajun bushpot meal, I am a Cajun from deep South Louisiana (I live 30 minutes from the beaches that were affected by the BP spill, that deep) Jambalaya does as you mentioned always have sausage in it. Most common is with shrimp, also pork or chicken (usually leftovers from a day or 2 before so as to use it in a different way) Check out Zatarain's website if you want other bushpot/ one pot ideas. Their products have many "just add water and meat" like many you prefer to do, and most have parboiled rice with the mix so its quick also.

Thanks for posting Dave, you have done the impossible, and combined two of my favourite things, bushcraft/self sufficiency and cooking/eating food! I really enjoy this series of videos, the only down side is as soon as I have watched a video, I need to eat. I am going to be the size of a bus and need to wash with a rag on a stick lol! On a serious note, I'm english, and as such, we don't have access to ingredients such as Old Bay and your freeze dried veggies. Any suggestions? Cheers pal! Nick

+wildernessoutfitters Love God Love your channel. I assumed so. In these troubled times in my opinion. It is rare to see someone praying. It is a breath of fresh air for a fellow Christian. And probably more so important to the non believers to see a well respected man such as yourself humbling himself before the All mighty. Your channel does so much to spread the importance of self reliance in the world of social media and the sisafication of our youth. I certainly ment no disrespect. It just makes me proud when you do. Blessings to you and your family.
