Both of the units I had came with the tent-cot. They both also had the problem of the axle bushings breaking.

@CandDWedding You're welcome! I believe that a set of 4 stainless steel bushings custom machined to replace the bronze ones would partially solve the problem. The other problem is the axles, their diameter is too small. On the second trailer I got from Amazon.com one of the axles had thread diameter so amall that the nut was jumping off the threads & WOULD NOT TIGHTEN as a result. You might get stainless steel parts made at a local machine shop as a reasonable price in the current economy.

Despite the 'flaw' with this I'd still love to have one. I think for someone such as myself that's a DIY'er this will be an easy fix starting with getting rid of the cause of the problem. There is no need to have 4 wheels on that trailer. Turning and twisting that assembly is what is breaking the bushings. Even highly overloaded 2 will be more than enough. I'd just convert it for 2 wheel use and be done with it.

Granted not ideal, it looks like this could be fixed by replacing that whole assembly with some better parts. Almost bought this, thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately no. The bushings are under significant tension which stabilizes them laterally. The lip on the bushing breaking renders the entire assembly useless. The bushings would need to be remade out of steel with a bronze insert to allow the assembly to function properly and last while withstanding the stresses of Bicycle Touring.

I can't get much help from the manufacturer so hopefully you can answer some questions.I found a trailer and a separate oversize cot tent. If I pull the supports (legs) off of the tent, will it mount to the trailer or does it require special mounting hardware.I know you said don't buy but this looks like the only thing I can pull behind my tadpole recumbent trike and I'm willing to rebuild the bottom half to solve the fatal flaws.Did you ever find a good alternative trailer to pull?

when you bought this, did this trailer come with Kamp-Rite Oversize Tent Cot or did you have to buy one and attach on top? I see this trailer is on sale @ Amazon, but without the tent. Only the trailer

Such a shame. This product, as Im sure you would agree, has SO MUCH potential and no competition whatsoever. That's a lot of money to pay to end up with such cheap results. Hopefully this company will stand by their product as they learn and grow and work with their customers. Otherwise, this will be a short lived great idea that never made it. Thank you for the video, I was also seriously considering this purchase for my upcoming road trips. Looks like I may have to build my own... or try. lol

Looks like your assembly is wrong. The bushings fit inside the legs and are secured in place with the flanged nuts. That way the bushings stay static and the axle turns inside them. The nuts should not have that much play.Looks like you have metric nuts on American standard allthread,or vice-versa.Since you like this product except for this problem, don't give up on it,fix it yourself or go to a shop for repair

Both trailers had the same setup. All of the hardware was in the exact same order and suffered from the same poor fit with excessive play in the nuts. Both sets of bushings failed when the lip that held them in place broke off thus allowing inappropriate lateral movement. The setup is supposed to allow the pair of wheels on each side to move independentently over uneven terrain. The main problem is that the bushings are made of some sort of fragile material. It looks like brass or bronze, as can be clearly be seen in both videos. However it is remarkably fragile.

+Steven Christiansen thank you for replying so quickly.I am doing a run for mental health awareness in2017,1500 miles.I was going to use the bushtrekka for sleeping and supplies.I would be jogging with the trailer attached to my waist and am aware that I will have to make modifications. In your opinion,if the axle problem is corrected would this trailer be sufficient for my trip?I have looked on amazon for pricing on the trailer and they are unavailable at this time.Maybe the manufacturer is revamping their axle set up?

+skeeter sullivan Dude, if you are planning a self supported run you would want large diameter wheels to roll easily over obstacles. But! Have you considered that a trailer attached to your body will most likely bump your back in a rhythmic manner resulting in skin abrasions? I would suggest you try it first. Also, it might look funny but have you considered using one of those jogging strollers? The load would be in front and thus more easily controlled. Also, your arms would act as perfect shock absorbers! I wish you an awesome adventure! My longest solo Bicycle adventure was Tacoma, WA to Bar Harbor, ME. It was 3 months and almost 5,000 miles.
