MK Trilogy for the PS1, a taste of things to come. BONUS Mortal Monday video.

MK itself as a franchise defines my childhood, but this game, MKT on the psx, is my most pivotal. It was my first game on the psx, countless hours played enjoying the near arcade perfect gameplay while before all I played was SNES ports which were good but nothing like this. I was in 3rd grade, and all I could think about was the weekends so I could play it (and Tekken 2 and Soul Blade). Great memories

I have to add another memory. I remember standing in circuit city and looking at the back of the MKT case and seeing the character select screen and just LOSING MY MIND esp seeing human smoke lol

I remember playing this on the N64. My cousin had this on the PS1. My brother told me basically every character were available including all bosses and I was upset to see that Kintaro & Goro were not playable characters. Overall , I still enjoyed the game. It was the upgrade for my UMK3 (In my opinion)

This is pretty nostalgic for me. I got this when my brother got Porsche Challenge from a game store my dad took us to. And sometime later on, he noticed how violent it is 😅 Good fun playing as bosses!

For the PS1 version of Trilogy, the ending screens of the original MK3 characters have the ending artwork as seen in the arcade, while new artwork was developed for Kitana, Jade, Reptile, Scorpion, and Rayden (there's also new artwork for MK1 Kano, as well as reusing the Elder God artwork for MK1 Rayden). The other characters simply have their ending text next to the versus pose.

I bought this game at release and had the same experience. Blown away by the roster, but the loading times and difficulty kinda ruined it for me. But the one-button fatalities cheat was really cool. NEEEEEEEEWB Saibot... Wins!

Just a theory, but the reason it's "Rayden" on consoles is because "Raiden" is an existing shoot-'em-up series that is also on consoles and so they changed it to avoid copyright issues.

The Bank stage itself was not even in Ultimate MK3 unless you play the Sega Saturn or Sega Genesis versions which had it but both versions reuse the MK3 Bank stage instead. The Bank stage was missing in SNES, DS, Arcade, and emulation of the arcade versions. The N64 version of MK Trilogy was also missing the Bank stage therefore this new Bank stage with the carpet is exclusive to the PS1 and Saturn version of MK Trilogy. I'm not a fan of any of the MK Trilogy games cause all the games does felt like they are missing stuffs that were in previous games. I also hated how they change Raiden's flying move (both versions) to be more like a projectile. It doesn't touch the opponent like it did in MK1 & MKII, if the opponent duck then it misses. In the previous two games it'll connect even if the opponent ducks. This change essentially make both Raiden very crappy to play unlike the first two games. Also hate how they waterdown Motaro too, his horse body was suppose to be immune to projectile, making his entire body vulnerable means he literally does not feel like a boss anymore.

If you happen to play the Champion tower on very hard difficulty, Rain is also a very good character to beat the game. If I remember correctly the AI never blocks the orb attack so you can just do orb -> super roundhouse kick move -> when they are flying from the other side of the screen you uppercut and repeat. For bosses you can do orb -> roundhouse kick.

I think you have it backwards. The Greatest Hits fixed the low gravity and other bugs the earlier versions had. It's the closest version to arcade UMK3

Pretty nostalgic game! The roster (that also includes all 4 bosses) and stages are great and the gameplay is fast. On the downside, the music is broken (it ends abruptly or keeps playing between stages) and the difficulty is notoriously high.

The one thing that's a bonus to Mortal Kombat Trilogy on PS1, is that you can play the game CD in a CD Player, to listen to all the stage songs.

Noob Saibot is Boon Tobias backwards. Noob's Dorfen is Boon's Forden, with the D and the F reversed. Interestingly this version of the game is missing The Hidden Portal and Noob's Dorfen stages from MK3, while the N64 has those stages in addition to The Star Bridge Stage. However the N64 version is missing much more important arenas like Kahn's Arena and The Bank. Too bad the MK3 tracks are slowed down and lower pitched as well in the PS1.

A lot of them are pretty ridiculous, fair enough. But have you checked out Mortal Kombat II Remix? You might have some fun with it, especially since MKII is your favorite of the series. I had MKT for the original PlayStation. It was fun, but this port/enhancement of UMK3 felt rushed. But still superior the N64 version. And for whatever reason, Scorpion’s costume is the wrong color (dirty gold instead of yellow).

No blocking, no specials, can't hit Noob with any attacks, resets combo hit counter when it ends. Most broken move in MK history

Yeah, also how the music would just suddenly stop each time the next fight began to load always sounded a little amateurish to me. In my opinion the game didn't sound as polished as it could have been in that respect. The Playstation version of MK3 didn't have that problem.
