I really appreciate your work. There is always a pronounced dedication to ethics, best practices, good compliance, and good science. A lot of times people get caught up in the art or profit of their work and forget about these important aspects of running a business. It seems like you have a good balance. 👍🍄💖

Good topic. Another item to understand is sales tax exemption. Many states allow farming OR reseller sales tax exemption. This can save a lot on products and consumable supplies.

@@J155P Have you gotten sick from Raw milk yet? How about the last time you got salmonela from eggs? What about those parasites you had from some bad pork? No? None of those? Then stop your bitching and thank the GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS that put safety first! Because in case you didnt know it the business owners sure as hell dont care about anything but money and would certainly poison you with bad food if it meant more profit.

I love this topic! complying to local laws is tricky sometimes as a mushroom farmer...

Thanks Gary. This was some helpful information. USDA and FDA don't require anything here in Portland as long as the mushrooms are only sold fresh. I haven't checked the business license guidelines for a while, but they were that you didn't need a license until you made $10k. I'll have to check up on any changes. Thankfully, I'm abutted to a Farmer's market, so the permitting will be much simpler. I can literally set up a booth at the back of my property and it would be connected to the market.

Currently working on starting my own farm, and this video is super helpful regarding the business side of things. Never owned a business before, nor have I dealt with my State Department of Agriculture so this will prove rather interesting. Praying its not going to be too costly to get registered / permits because I'm not a very rich man. But I absolutely love growing mushrooms and I want to scale things up to a commercial level. Also trying to do this out of my house is seriously complicating things zoning-wise

thanks for following along and for the suggestions! We got some pins to form but they dried out so hopefully we can keep them going with better protection and sprayers in the spring 👍

Hi Gary. Thanks for your videos. I love being outdoors and would love to start growing some mushrooms. Which mushroom species are most suitably and feesibily grown outdoors?
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi2 жыл бұрын
king stropharia, blewit/clitocybe nuda, oysters, morels (the mother of all challenges) would be fun to start with - all mushrooms began in nature so replication isn’t impossible but I prefer indoor cultivation because of consistency and free from bugs

hey gary.. so ive been making liquid culture with the same honey that you use. Every now and then , after bottling and pressure cooking the water and honey..i look in the jar and low and behold there is a damn GNAT in there.. im guessing its because the honey is unfiltered... will the gnat hurt my liquid culture? should i make another jar? thanks man
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi2 жыл бұрын
I have never seen a bug before in the honey I would check your jar and washing procedure - if it’s in there it shouldn’t hurt if it was sterilized properly (250F/15PSI for 20 min)

Hi Gary! Thank you for all your videos, I'm looking to start a mushroom farm and saw in one of your videos that you recommend airsciences for the flow hood. I'm looking into which models of the flow hoods are best for mushroom cultivation, any recommendations?
@MaxS5352 жыл бұрын
Build your own, save more than 50% of the cost. Freshcap mushrooms did a pdf tutorial on how to build your own 24x48 flow hood at 99.97-99.99% filter rate. That size is big, easily enough for bag inoculation, agar, and such.
