I think this video is too long and discourages young guys. What you need is the drive to do something. But you need to know the basics. An example is Tony Weerasinghe's Stock Exchange handling system that was built in Sri Lanka and is being sold all over europe by London Stockexchange.I think he did not get a big amount when he sold it. So, you need to have luck on your side if you want to make lots of money from your hard work. The best example is Shuji Nakamura who invented the method to produce the blue LED on a mass scale without which we will not be watching this video. He got nobel price but that money he got was barely sufficient for him to meet legal cost on the case with his employer who made billions out of his invention.

Then we will be watching this on a CRT or an LCD screen. About your point: without knowing the reality you cannot do anything worthwhile. Wishful thinking alone cannot get you pass the success line. Do you think Sanjeeva Weerawarnas education and contacts at Apache foundation had nothing to do with his success here? Most of the success stories have a strong link to the outside world. Only a few services companies are there who made it outside without that, and maybe one or two product companies (few famous examples which you also mentioned). So the young generation needs to know the reality and where to point their energy. Otherwise they will be frustrated and give up.

@@SanjayaElvitigala Sanjaya, your first sentence refers. What do you mean by CRT & LCD?. Please do not display ignorance. At least read Nakamura's invention and his struggles to develop that technology. You need the combination of three colours RGB (red. blue, green) to synthesise any colour or shade. All modern phones are LEDs or OLEDs. So much for CRT. Now about Weerapura. I didn't hear you mention his name here, although I have known him as creator of WSO2. Never knew he had worked in Apache. I spent whole day today trying to solve a problem of Apache POI files to work with Excel, which are not compatible with my Android app upgrading. Yes, our people need exposure. However, it's not necessary for you to work abroad to gain knowledge in this age of AI. There are lots of good people trying to help others on various forums. Though these people are not PhD. holders, they are resourceful. When someone asked for a way to process 3d points, one lady from the US said, to try these codes. And that's what I was looking for my digital terrain modelling. She then sent me 3k lines of code that enabled me to make my own software that was used in all my projects. However, I do not come across any Sri Lankan names appearing on these forums.

People had displays before the blue LED you know. Just coz you watched some video from Veritasium or possibly read an article does not mean you know everything. This is laughable and quite amusing. That is the problem with most of your generation. And your other points are not related to this argument anyway.

@SanjayaElvitigala Yes, it's good that you did some research and found the Veritasium interview by Dereck Muller with that humble man. That's the way. So, why talk about CRT at once?. I had the first CRT color TV by the inventors, Philips back in 1975 and having a CRO (Cathode-Ray Oscilloscope) made in 2023. Learn to be courteous!. And my first comment is relevant to the topic that you spoke about. That's my advice to guys to follow forums like stackoverflow, cadtutor (of Autodesk), 'the swamp' where developers (and newbies) roam to get help. So, all the best my friend!.
