This video addresses a common business-lunch sales meeting. Think about these questions as you watch, then return to Blackboard to share your observations:
1.Name three things Brian did right or wrong.
2. What advice would you give Brian?
3. Midway through this lunch, how should Karen (the boss) have handled this situation?

Thank you for a good laugh this morning! I have a business lunch today which has been the source of a little anxiety this week because I want to make the right impression. And thank you, the actors who portrayed Brian and Patricia, for a perfect representation of what I shouldn’t do this afternoon! 😂

Business lunch thesis. Fork and knife scratch on plate makes noise which is bad manners and irritate pedantic boss, clients and colleagues. You lost million dollar deal and gets fired. Why not for business meals to order and eat salad and tomatoes? Add green to table, shows to power holders that you are healthy (won’t die in the middle of the project which result in financial losses), you are disciplined and people (boss and clients) gets relaxed when they see salad akin to greenery (walk in nature). Max probability of deal closure to max company and bosses profits so everyone can donate more to charities. Eating salad makes no scratching sounds.

...This video is for people with Sense of etiquettes who have basics of mannerisms not for people who don't the meaning of ettiquites and manners at all. 1...Brian was supposed to stand while greeting and keeping his cell out of place. 2. He was supposed to stand up and not do the patting on ladies hand while shaking hands .. there are manners how to shake hands .... obviously you can't greet or say goodbye while sitting. 3. Well if it does come in etiquittes that there are ladies ,they are supposed to order first ,let them do it if it's expected and you are not losing anything.( Personally ,I don't consider " Ladies first" but if it's classy ,is expected in that environment , or in business etiquettes, then do that. 3.The ladies don't do retouch ,make up ,setting and brushing hairs on dinner table. 4. When you have dropped silverware on the floor ,you have to ask for another silverware without getting down to pick it up esp. to use it again.( This is for you not to get germs while touching the dropped silverware). 5. While at business lunch , formal dinning you have to wait for others to get their meals also.If you got your meal first ,then wait for others to get meal as well. Up

I assume you are just business unfortunately investors, paying customers, and mgmt. sees this as unnecessary expenses. However I understand you perhaps might gain that one or two VIP clients but the tech companies are stealing the masses and making sure they do not go back to you. Personally this looks like 80's to 90's operations. If you are an employee check your employers' stock price if it is that big and check the competitors, global investors in business will tell you how much they think your company is worth and if you are savvy enough you will find out the extreme ones that will short it down to bankruptcy and ride the waves before it gets trade in the pennies exchange. Good luck to you!

Brian n young woman we're totally unhospitable with display of poor interest. Hand shake in the end was also not professional. Pathetic. Seems only 2 women were interested to carry out business meeting in fruitful result with client lady.

Well said ! Brian would have got the business offer cancelled esp.if this formal lunch was just a test or trial about the impression of that particular Co. or delegation.

I agree however there are a large group of people who do not want to take chances with face-to-face interactions, waste time, and money not to mention paying customers, investors, and mgmt who sees this as wasteful or perceived as expensive and swanky employees.

LOL. Hostile takeover, doesn't look like a sweetheart deal. This was only 9 years ago? Please look at your competitors. Unfortunately, it’s the technology corporations that are dominating the market share nowadays, investors actually call them market disruptors. Check your employers stock price, go all the way back, so you can understand museum operations and market share if it is that big. Many clients nowadays want speed, value-added services, and cutting-edge real-time technology instead of this 80's style business lunch. In the mean time feel free to be asleep perhaps one day this business will join those brick-and-mortar for still doing things the old way not to mention wasting time and billing old unnecessary business lunch expenses. Investors call this fat! Also, alot of it was done through Skype or WebEx this is before Teams, Zoom, FaceTime and Duo. But anyways, who still does this perhaps they don't have to pay dividends. LOL. Also, is hard to tell if paying customers is also an investor but I can tell you I hate seeing suits like this because I know I'm paying their employer at the top line but their employees to walk around like some executives' fashion show and wasting our share from the overall profit if any. Never again there are leaner companies with better human capital and research and development department. In the mean time learn to do exit interview of your paying customers and learn to count loss of potential sales and rigid old business model.

I agree with that however business lunches like this just angers paying customers, investors and mgmt from other sectors. The last thing you want is to be perceived as expensive and swanky employees billing before the bottom line. Also, please look at your employers competitors and the market many dinosaurs operations are traded downward...

@Artur Spatuzzi Oh wow I can't remember for that one but I had one recently and my regional boss walked in and came straight up to me, shook my hand and said "good to see you" ? My reply went something like " nice to meet you... see you" awkward eye contact* and I had already met him before lol. He quickly said " I gotta take a call and walked outside" I think he was giving me a chance to calm down. I'm just not equipped for high pressure social interaction. I'm probably on the spectrum tbh. Thanks for asking, I survived for another day.

@@countrystudent1038 Correct however imagine being trained by professors who have doctoral degrees in artificial intelligence, neural networks and an MBA from ivy league university. See in other multinational corporations it’s the computer people who run the business not the business people who run it some examples are Satya Nadella, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichari, Jeff Bezos, and Parag Agrawal. I bet Brian's managers probably do not know Excel or even intermediate free built-in features in Word. At some point typing complex queries, SQL, code, building macros, mapping supply chain, researching pending technologies and constructing reports for these low IQ mgmt just create to much bitterness. I know too many Vice Presidents (VP ) that just take the subordinates reports do some tweaking put their name on just to submit it to another higher VP.

Skype, WebEx, and etc. This is 90's operations, I hope even after Covid they will stick to real-time systems. The tech, lean price, and speed will eventually capture the market.

This video is a quick guide to understand and apply the essentials of a business lunch. these are critical as many part of your grooming when dealing with clients and fellow team members. While there are a variety of business lunch settings (such as working lunches and corporate getaways), the principles remain the same.

I agree there will always be that old small market that still want to do this. However, the world has changed a lot since the internet was invented and paying customer, clients, investor and a lot of managers do not want this. They see this as wasted expenses and a good chance of bad face-to-face interactions, human errors, and intentional errors. Good luck to you I assume you are far from Silicon Valley, CA. Plus I cannot tell if you are an employee however look at your employers’ competitors many technology companies are now the leaders in various industries. To me this looks like 80’s to early 90’s operations I assume you do not have the human capital to things virtually.
