These tips are very good to use on this side of the Atlantic as well. Also, be aware that in some in business meetings the speaker has already stated a decision has been made in the implementation of a program, policy decision, etc. and is just formally informing the key players. My 34 years of experience tells me is just wait until the speaker completes his or her presentation and hopefully will open the ‘floor‘ for any questions. This is where you would politely ask for clarification and any possible changes to the decision that you or your co-workers can make. If changes are not possible then you or your co-workers must politely state the consequences; you must be to the point and concise. Be in mind, this is not always easy especially for experienced workers. I had my fair share of this.

My dear princess, once again you hit the nail on the head! When speaking and using verbs, nouns and so on we have a list of verbs, nouns that seem to be all alike...and there's a chance we say something wrong or ill-interpreted and we end up putting a foot in it! This beautiful lesson has been enlightening! Please, could you do other lessons like this and run us through which verbs and nouns to use in special occasions? Thanks a bunch, Kat, and kisses from Rome!

Wow... Excellent presentation on etiquettes dear and you looked so animated in this video, most probably for the fact that you were doing a presentation inside after a long time and enjoying the warmness as opposed to last few weeks where you had to endure some cold weather outside while you were doing your presentations... 🤩😮 Anyways, have a super cool day my dear teacher and also take this opportunity to wish you happy almost valentine's day day and may it be as sweet as the knowledge you share.. 🙏 ❤ Hugs.xoxoxo Gams ❤️

It is a very useful lesson to learn about business meeting "interrupt/interject". Teacher Katharine thank you so much!
@johnli5103
@johnli5103 3 ай бұрын
“How to interject in a meeting" is very very useful to me. I'm from Taiwan, and I recently met an airline company. One of the meeting flows is a group discussion, so the interjection of the discussion is important. Because some people would keep talking so that I don't have a chance to say my opinion. And that would let me fail in meetings. So thank you, Katharine, it helps me a lot!

Hi Katherine, ma belle, my fridays' ray of sunlight, my eardrums' delight, my rose of England 🌹😊 What a lovely lesson, Katherine! You're beautiful and you catch the light magnificently. As well as your beauty, your lovely voice and that accent that I find so classy because it flirts so happily with PR from time to time, and the clarity of your speech, your positivity and enthusiasm shine through and are infectious, captivating and spellbounding. It's easy to see how much you enjoy making these videos, and all that reflects on the audience. I can imagine that their success must be intoxicating for you and I can feel it personally in the fact that, it seems to me, your confidence and self-assurance are growing by leaps and bounds. Otherwise, I absolutely love the sound of the word 'interject', especially said by you. It's a word that says so well by itself about what it means, and it just fizzes and pops and bursts and explodes! ;-) I loved your explanations and the fine distinction you made between 'interrupt' and 'interject'. Generally speaking, I don't like it when people constantly interrupt each other during an exchange. I always prefer people to be able to express themselves calmly, nuanced and serenely, and to get to the end of what they're saying before any questions or interjections. When I watch a conference, for example, I prefer questions or comments to be addressed at the end of the talk rather than the teacher, speaker or lecturer authorising interventions and interruptions during the talk, which in my opinion runs the risk of dispersing the talk and somewhat blurring the thread and clarity of the discourse. In this sense, I feel more British, or more Nordic, I'd say, than Latin, no doubt, 'Latins' often being somehow more sanguine and bubbly... So I appreciate the etiquette you're referring to; and that doesn't mean, of course, that exchanges should always be sanitised and 'politically correct', because I also like the confrontation of ideas, the fact that a spade can be called a spade in certain circumstances, and a certain vigour and liveliness that are proper to debate and exchanges of ideas as long as, and I agree with you, respect is there, even in slightly heated discussions. Finally, I agree with you on the very accurate things you say about the rhythm of speech ;-) Thank you so much Katherine for another beautiful lesson and video! 🙏👏 Sorry for the prolixity you never fail to inspire me and my always too long comments probably. I hope however you will find, be it only a little, interest in it. I hope you have a lovely weekend. I send you all my love and say 'A bientôt ma belle !'. Je t'embrasse. Bisous bisous. 😘🌹❤❤💌🕊☮🎹🎸

Although I got your point in my opinion "interject" and "interrupt" both involve breaking the continuity of a conversation or activity.....interject means: cut in, interpose but of course people use the phrase "sorry for interrupting" when we need to apologise for cutting off someone while speaking or interjecting in a conversation.....the only thing that differ is how we do it as you said. The term used nowadays is "conversational turn-talking which means that in an idle world everyone gets a chance to speak up in roughly equal proportion.

It s difficult to create an atmosphere that everyone feels confident enough to add something in that meeting, such as - a new highlight , a fresh point of view . I like meetings best that are not so pre-cooked that you just arent expected to add something . Or meetings that are in such atmosphere that anything you say is considered an offense , or direct attack .

Professor Katharine, I would never interject into somebody's word during a meeting. I do even not understand why should I make it. I would simply drink coffee and listen to other persons words. Another thing if they would ask me about my opinion, in that case I would produce myself.

Hmmm. That’s not a good attitude for London - you’ll get eaten alive! You must be able to join in a meeting where people are sharing passionate opinions 😊

@@tatti966 Ok, I was a little bit discombobulated as Katherine because you said - bLack - country when you probably meant BACK country, didn't you? ... ;-) This is not exactly the same hence Katherine's surprise and interrogation I guess.

When I was an Aston student 30 years ago, the teacher said Birmingham had been called black country because the sky was black during Industrial Revolution.
