Uh, that was a very short video. So how does something go from $1.10/lb end up retailing for $25/lb? That's an enormously huge gap that someone needs to explain to us. Sounds to me like global price fixing. I'd appreciate it if you would drill down and do some further investigation into this mystery. It kind of reminds me about the story of butter. For man years, margarine came out as an alternative to the often vilified butter for its rich fatty content. Then lo and behold, butter turned out to actually be good for you. And then, of course, margarine studies all suggested this was crap. The results: butter prices soared overnight, never to dropdown again.

They are mostly sent to American restaurants with the end user around $100 per KG in USD. I find this hilarious considering I can get the same bags from the processing facility for only $27 AUD. Me a Kenyan getting free macadamia from my grandpa
@YukihyoShiraki4 жыл бұрын
I grew up with several mac nut trees in my backyard and we never harvested off the tree. My grandma would rake them off the ground into a bucket. They are sooooooooooooo much work! There is an outter husk that needs to be removed and then a hard outter shell that also needs to be removed. I remember my great grandma spending hours a day dehusking and cracking to get only a few pounds.

People in my village were starting to get good money from their macadamia trees. But local cartel has colluded with Kenyan government officials and kicked out the Chinese who were buying a kilo at decent amount. Now we are back to selling at throwaway prices to MACADAMIA PEOPLE who turn around and export at 100x the price.

110 cents per pound, lmao. Here in Russia pine nuts are sold for 1000-1500 rubbles per kilo (~7-10$ per pound) and that’s really expensive
