I wonder if a shop that does this kind of work could offer some kind of protection plan against damage. Essentially, the customer would pay a monthly premium to the shop, kind of like insurance, and if any damage occurred, the shop would fix it without charge. Maybe there could even be a lower tier service that just included annual, or bi-annual touch-ups for rock chips, dings, bug guts and such, and maybe these services would get more of these cool cars on the road. Something I constantly have trouble wrapping my head around, is how much of the process involves masking over an aspect of the finished artwork that you’ve already got painted exactly how you want it to look at the end? Its insane to me how conscious you need to be of what you’ve painted over already, what has paint on masking, what has paint on just the body. Like… I wouldn’t be able to keep reliable track of that I fear. I’d think I was done, and still have tape on the car. This is beautiful.

@Carlos, What most people don't realise is how expensive the raw materials cost! All the different fine line tapes, masking tapes, friskit paper, the Candy pigments, clears, reducers intercoat clears, metalflakes, sanding papers, masking paper probably costs $4,000 for an $8,000 job! Painting on canvas, the raw materials cost a tiny fraction of the price of the end painting but painting on steel is a different thing!
@obsbarlos3 жыл бұрын
@@joseywales3789 Bingo man and Candy paint since you have to mix like 3-4 colors is what gets really expensive the paint alone is worth probably more than all materials combined
@joseywales37893 жыл бұрын
@Carlos, that's exactly what I was trying to explain..... people complain about the price of real custom painting but if you work out the price of the materials, the time spent preparing and laying down the tape, masking, sanding and applying the effects. The painter is earning not much more than minimum wage! Why get into custom painting? Because you'll never get rich and it's hard and dirty work? I think that the results speak for themselves! The painter does it for the love of the art! If a tattoo artist had to use ink that cost $10,000 an ounce then the price of a tattoo would be appreciated! The price of custom painting is not appreciated!

A true artist can lay their process bare because their work is not just the process. I love how he tells and shows you exactly how he does what he does knowing full well that competition won't be forthcoming.

It's not so much about competition. It's about passing the torch. The best compliment for any facilitator of knowledge is for the student to surpass the skill level of instructor, while interspersing their creations with their own individual style. The only real competition is within the artist himself. Pushing the level of their skills & knowledge to the limit. The last project is the benchmark for the next.

The mental brilliance and fore thought is even more fantastic than the actual painting! Bravo Prado!

If not for KZbin I'd never get to see such talent at work! The end result is incredible!

I'm a production painter, meaning if you get in an accident I spray your car back to factory spec. You wouldn't believe the amount of people that think what I do and what this guy does is the same thing. This is a God given talent. Don't disrespect these OGs by asking anyone who holds a paint gun to spray green flames on your Buick. It's gonna look like shit. Take your stuff to a custom shop and pay custom money and get it done right!

I kind of knew how this was done, a sh*t-ton of masking tape and endless patience and skill, so no real surprises, but still a massively impressive job. "Artist" hardly comes close to describing this work. You sir, have my undying admiration.

You make it look so easy but most people have no idea the hours and days it takes to complete such a paint job. Beautiful work you do!
