The problem is not the sign. Let's say you are lost in a foreign land. Over there, in this weird looking shelter, there's a huge black four legged creature. If they're like the limited number of pros we have, attacking them or the sovereign will have the attacker discovering the horse is as much as a threat as the rider is. Once got selected for the september 'Throne speech' where the budget is announced by the king. You're taught to ride and must show proficiency to take party, but there's a cadre of professionals who are the actual escort. The horses are trained to kick, bite and trample as the rider indicates. Horses seem to have a good time doing it too, each time one came up you could just see the horse thinking "Yeah, my turn!" In such a case we were supposed to simply turn and ride off controlled as possible. We weren't part of the security response in case of an attack. Last thing they need is people with a couple weeks riding skill and no weapon trying to interfere.
