I'm sure I had at least 3 people in my extended family who were closer gays. It was never spoken about. Even after my cousin moved to San Francisco and after many years died from AIDS! We never spoke about it, only my sister and I did. Horrible, we knew him all our lives. Anyway, God bless you Sara, it's nice that you are trying with your family.

HI Sarah ~ I found you through Maddie and I just wanted to say heeeeeey!!! my heart goes out to you about your family being homophobic! Our son came out to us when he was 14 and we were like well maybe you're confused (we've always been a really open household and non judgement) but then when he was 18 he came out again as def I'm gay!! and I said "well I still love you the same what do you want for dinner?" I'm not religious but spiritual and it's really sad to hear about how GOD doesn't make mistakes but yet gay people are mistakes broken not normal Yada yada yada! There is nothing wrong with you and I'm sure rationally you know this but to have your family tell you that you are sinful by just loving who you do is so wrong!!! so I'm sending you out some love and light! accepting people where they are and loving them is some very hard work my friend! Bless you for doing the work!!!

When our son came out to my husband and I, I told him he had one rule. His boyfriend wasn't allowed to be cuter than my husband. We told him we didn't care who he loved...man, woman, pink and purple polka dotted alien, it didn't matter. All we wanted for him was for him was to be in a healthy and loving relationship. Now, I'm retired on disability and write gay romances, and my son edits them for me!

I think you are a beautiful, wise, compassionate soul. If you were my daughter I would be so proud to shout it to the world.

@@oasisofchange it is not possible to say that she is exaggerating for views. You do not live with her and you don’t personally know her family. She has been very open about the fact that her family has helper her in many ways and has said that she so grateful for that. I KNOW it can be hard, but remember, they are not in your life. They are COMPARING what they hear about you with their experiences and comprehension.
