With how the economy is going I think van life is becoming increasingly more popular, I’m super fascinated by the lifestyle because it seems so freeing!

It’s either van life or pop a tent in the bushes life. Rent is too expensive
@leebliss362211 ай бұрын
i did it for 3 years and will be returning to it again soon, like anything, there are pro's and cons, if you get stressed easily or can't part with everyday ease, it can be very mentally challenging, you're never really alone, unless fully isolated, people will always be looking at you and some even trying to look into the van, someone even tried breaking into mine once! WHILE i was sleeping in it! - you have to find places to shower and poop and sometimes cooking is a real hassle, but it's really nice to wake up in new places every day and i love it because i can't fully decide where i want to live so that's why im returning to it, you should try it for sure, give everything a go once right

But…nothing is free. Go ahead and find a job and work for 40 years. Then it will be all the MORE freeing. Nothing is free now if you are under 60.

You are fortunate to be able to quit van life. Van life isn't dying, just the millenials who did it to be "cool" are getting bored with it. Poor people who have no choice will continue to live in cars and vans, or RVs if they are lucky.

It's so funny, I'm much older than u r, but I've realized that the space isn't what defines u or make u less happy. I've been living in a in-law apt for 35yrs (1 rm, a sm bathroom & a galley kitchen) & have the bare minimum. For me less is better the older I get. I could totally live in a van, BUT with age the only amenity I need is a indoor shower. 😂 I say, do it as long as u can. I regret not having ur fearlessness & doing what my gut told me to do. Life is short & we're not guaranteed tomorrow...

The short bus looks cool.... Good job. - I think that one reason that people leave Van Life ... They won't admit it... its because they have a difficult time just to relax. Many say that "time is our most precious commodity"... but many Van Lifers have hours and hours and hours to do essentially nothing. Some can't deal with that.

I couldn't handle van life. I live vicariously through van life vloggers. I need roots and more predictable security. Even an efficiency apartment would be better for me. Wondering about where you're sleeping every night is just too much for me. Even a roommate would be preferable. I rescue dogs and cats, so my yard is very necessary. But i do admire those who travel in their vans and see the country and nature.

Yes, the more I lived in the van, the more cities, Walmarts, and other places started patrolling their parking lots and not allowing anyone to sleep in the lot overnight. It was making it more important to be a stealth van to live in the city. It started to put a squeeze on me every night to find another place to rotate to and try not to get the knock on the door or tickets. I've moved into a house and I've hung onto the van for a year now. I need to either use or sell it.

FYI Sarah.... you should never wash a vehicle with dish detergent. Dish soaps are formulated to cut through tough grease and should never be used as car washing soap. Even gentle dish soaps can ruin your car's clear coat and protective wax. Always use a cleaner that is made specifically for vehicles.

For me, I'll use public facilities for my needs. I won't camp in the boonies, instead I'll rent actual recognized camp sites the way this life is supposed to be used. It actually forces us to be social. I have PTSD from being in the army and having been deployed to Afghanistan, so i really need to be social so i use public facilities much as i possibly can.

I am part time van lifer during the summers. I legit hate other van lifers and totally understand why the world is shutting them down. I stay at campgrounds, RV parks or deep in the woods when I travel. You know; the areas we've designated for nomads to stay. But Van lifers just roll thru public areas and set up like its their living room. They take over beach side rest stops, hot springs, parks, stores. Areas the public want to enjoy, they just flop out and hang their laundry and move their shit buckets onto the street. It absolutely ruins the atmosphere, denies others who are being responsible the opportunity to use this public spaces and is overall distasteful. Just because you CAN pull over somewhere and you dont see any "no camping" signs, doesn't mean you should. Stop acting entitled to the most coveted spaces on the planet and start going to places designated for camping. And maybe people will stop enacting laws and generally hating on van lifers

Plastic grocery bags fit buckets perfectly. You poop in said bucket and twist bag and tie. Double bag it. Put lid on bucket. Eventually when bags get half way you dump in a regular trash can. Bucket stores outside van on luggage rack. You want to store bucket inside a box for stealth. Problem solved. Oh, while you sit on bucket women and men will pee in jug simultaneously. Way lower maintenance than a port-a-potty.

Well some people dabble in survival and some people live it whether they need to or not. Some people don't like having a heavy load, don't like having too many possessions, try to limit their responsibility as much as possible in order to be free. And then there are people who are fascinated by freedom but don't want to really sacrifice to have it, these are the people leaving the life.
