I feel this applies more towards one motion shooters. Most of the distance shooters are one motion, Lillard happens to be the exception. It's more in regards to fluidity for one motion shooters. Two motion need the load due to that slight load. You can absolutely see Lillard load his hips for his longer distance shots. Ray Allen great shooter but I don't feel he could get nearly the distance of a Curry based on his shot type.
@Misterstallworth2 жыл бұрын
@@romeosmith4102 that’s because Ray Allen is a high jumping jump shooter… like the vid explained… 2 motion high jumpers do not have the same power and range as a 1 motion low jumper..

Love this! I’ve been a set shooter for such a long time, I always took the old-school approach to lengthening my jump shot, more legs. But studying the NBA over the last few years, the momentum idea is right on.
@ShotMechanics4 жыл бұрын
It's all about fluidity! Glad you are seeing some better results by focusing on optimizing your momentum! :)
@davidf22444 жыл бұрын
Fluidity and momentum. The secret behind the secret is to tailor fit your abilities to your attributes. There's lots of ways to do things wrong, but precious few "right" waysto do them that you benefit neither from studying nor clinging to. I'm teaching myself to shoot. I'm loosely following Curry's model. Quick release. High arc. Drilling my Handels. Especially behind the back. Extremely useful for small dudes.

Love this vid it's helped me analyze a problem I've had for years, but how do you keep your arms from getting to your set point before your legs are extended?
@mikewyant10634 жыл бұрын
It's important to read the disclaimer. This is a message for advanced players. "Get more legs in your shot" is typically being told to a younger player, who uses their upper body (without bending their knees) to shoot the ball. As you see from the video, all players, including the trainer bend their knees and most jump. With that said, the momentum tip is spot on.

I never equated to using your legs to jumping higher -- using your legs to me is exactly what you said is important - create power and momentum from your hips (lower body). And, yes, Stephen Curry does have strong legs. Deadlifts 400 lbs.

I started watching your videos and from other shooting coaches hoping for consistent 3pt shot,but somehow I forgot how to shoot the ball like before. I had around 40% from 3pt and now its like 30% or less. And I screwed up my release,I was shooting with my middle finger,now with middle and ring finger. And guide hand kinda feels awkward now. So any advice how to get my old shot back?
@jacksonsummers53894 жыл бұрын
Same thing is happening to me, I'm still trying to figure that out. My best advice is to practice shooting easy shots that you are comfortable with while focusing on releasing it the same way you used to, until shooting that way becomes muscle memory again. Again I'm not really sure what exactly to do but that's my best advice.

Yes and no. You are correct about momentum and how you explained it, but if you're a below average height player like myself, using the "jump peak shoot " method works better when within the 3 point line. It allows for elevating over the taller defenders and getting the shot off. Where as the. Momentum method you cannot get the same elevation needed to shoot over taller defenders

Momentum is very important but nobody is gonna start off shooting from 30 feet using momentum. Accuracy, slowing the mechanics is how you start that process. After countless reps, then you can start using momentum after getting a feel of distance, weight and arc necessary for the shot. You're basically describing the last phase of the process. U gotz to check off a couple boxes first or else people will be shooting bricks n airballs in real competition. You don't get Dame's, Steph's shot accuracy from deep over night. U didn't really demonstrate your own proficiency from that range in this video either. In fact, Trae Young was tryna use momentum to shoot 30 footers in rookie summer league and was shooting bricks and airballs.. folks called him a bust before he got used to size of athletes and different elements of his competition impacting his release-'was shooting those ALL DAY at Oklahoma. Getting a quick release from that deep of a range takes time. Put a disclaimer in that people won't start making 4 balls over night. Using just "momentum" as a tweak... Come on now!

Coaches need to find a way to describe this situation if its not supposed to be "more legs". There are some shooters that use almost no dip or hop... they just load with their arms like free throw shot.. and as a result they tend to have limited range or almost no shot arc. I don't think a coach saying "work on your timing" to a player conveys the concept clearly enough for them to get it. Outside of showing them this video.. how would you describe this process?

@danielboyd7561 Жыл бұрын
You clearly said use your legs and get mote power. The legs ARE very involved, they are the largest muscles in the body and when used fluidly with all mechanics are indeed crucial to successful shooting. True, one need not jump high but ya gotta have legs. Listen to yourself near the end saying to use the legs.

Bman Mcdowell he literally said “power does not come from the legs”. I have and still shoot just like he is teaching and I know you need legs to generate power. Players with power consistency issues often don't lock their elbow on the release. Make sure to lock out and take that variable out of the equation. then you can focus on the power needed for different ranges.

I don't think this is good advice. The easiest way to shoot a ball with most momentum is to shoot the ball with knees bent and elbow bent wrist bent and the ball actually leaves your hand when the knees, elbow and wrist all lock at the same moment. It you shoot at the height of your jump (when the legs are almost straight AND THEN start your elbow moving up, youl not benefit from any upward momentum from the knees as their is no more upward momentum and you might even start to be coming down slightly. YOU WANT THE SHOT to have maximum momentum of the legs elbows and wrists previously bent and moving up with speed (force) and the ball being released at the maximum force (which is when the knees, elbows and wrists all lock together.
