10 Rules for Dealing with Police 1. Don't get angry, Always be cool and calm. 2. Don't tell them that you know your rights. 3. Don't get tricked by threats, cops can lie. 4. Don't agree to a search, EVER. 5. Don't just wait, ask "am I free to go?" 6. Don't do shady stuff in public. 7. Don't admit anything. Remain silent instead. 8 Don't answer questions without a lawyer. 9. Don’t let them in without a warrant. 10. Don’t panic. Challenge misconduct in court.

***** That's why I said "Sometimes" there is nothing you can do. There are certain things you can do to reduce your interactions with police but sometimes it's on the cop and not you. I was in a speeding car when my friends and I got pulled over. Honestly, my friend, who is a law student, knew our rights. He always reminds us that cops are NOT "your friend." A cop's job is to prosecute you. Simple as that. That's their job. They try to get you to talk to incriminate you. Never admit ANYTHING (even if you know you were in the wrong). You give up your rights when you talk. If you get pulled over, keep your mouth shut and don't say anything unncessary.

Slightly disagree. A cops job is NOT to prosecute. That's the DA's job. A cops job is to investigate and collect evidence of possible crimes..but, YES.. A cop will NEVER help you! They will NEVER talk to the DA on how you "cooperated"..

@infoPeace infoPiece That's the way most criminals think. In reality most are decent folk just making a living and trying to make it home at the end of the day. Criminals are overexposed to dirty cops for obvious reasons. Criminals are easy prey. Courts are far less likely to believe criminals. Criminals are far less likely to report a crime even when perpetrated by police. Criminals usually have drugs that dirty cops can steal. Criminals usually have dirty money that dirty cops can steal. The most obvious reason why criminals deal with dirty cops more than anyone else is that cops usually aren't anywhere around unless called upon. The places that have the most police presence are typically places that have the most crime and criminal presence. And we're not going to act like all dirty cops are dirty for their own benefit. There are cops out there who might plant drugs on a known domestic abuser to get him kicked up because they've been called by neighbors to the same house 15 - 20 - 30 times and they've consistently seen a women with black eyes and terrified children but the women refuses to ever tell them that her man has been beating her and sleeping with her daughters. Until her 14 year old is pregnant by the mom's stay at home boyfriend or the mother is killed or the 3 month old gets beaten to death because he wouldn't stop crying. It's usually criminals that paint police with that broad brush and tell the lie that most are dirty. They would think that when they're always on the opposite side of the law. They may even start to believe it if they stay a criminal long enough.

May we politely suggest the following de-escalation for remedy? THE TRUST IS COLLAPSED....in other words, your company is no longer granting them any more credit. If the policeman is not lawfully investigating the crime on behalf of the male/female victim and is entering YOUR company jurisdiction without you summonsing them, then would it not be advisable to be politely placing YOUR public-servants/trustees under your notification that your company is charging $707 per hour/part-there-of for YOUR company time and also $717 for YOUR company performance?....and that any further communicating (verbal) and/ or corresponding (written) with your company, is with them accepting the terms & conditions of the commercial contract IN THE PRIVATE (the cop and their CHIEF and their POLICE UNION is now with PERSONAL liability.... because Notice-to-Agent-is-Notice-to-Principal....and also through JOINDER....and they also lose their qualified immunity) This way, you are NOT resisting/refusing to obey/comply with their orders/demands/policy /questions, but instead, you are now willing to perform WITH THE CONDITION that payment is with your company immediately, because you have NO CONFIDENCE with them administrating YOUR company trust! THE PUBLIC TRUST IS COLLAPSED...Why is YOUR company issuing them extra credit! Are YOU not the executor and the beneficiary of YOUR trust?...making them the trustees, whom are with their fiduciary obligation and duty-of-care to be NOT causing you injury nor damage nor loss nor harm. Is THEIR job YOUR job? Is THEIR company policy YOUR company policy? not unless and until they are PAYING for your company time & performance THE CONSTRUCTIVE TRUST IS COLLAPSED...YOUR company is no longer performing free-of-charge! You may be willing to pursue the matter through the small-claims-court and/or through arbitration which is held in-the-private because PUBLIC court is only for the PUBLIC servant. YOUR TRUST FUND IS NOW WITH RESTORATION....YOUR company is now making money from every encounter with YOUR public-servants because the days of doing something with your trustees for free are over. PS-Be the BUSINESS man with the public-servants.....NOT the victim. Please note that this will involve SOME talking to the police....for YOUR benefit.

Wether you did something illegal is irrelevant. These rights are there to protect you. Believe it or not it is easy to implicate yourself unknowingly just by simply talking to law enforcement personnel. Our forefathers knew that and that is how the bill of rights was created. The British was a tyrannical government and if you think that the United States is not capable of being an oppressive and tyrannical government think again. The patriot act is a good example of our rights being slowly diminished by the government. No search warrant if it is terrorist related or national security issues. That is a very broad statement.

In addition. You should feel safe and secure in your home this includes your thoughts. Your thoughts are your personal property. They could be as illegal or unethical as they can be but no one has the right to pry out what you are thinking. As long as you do not act out anything that is against the law , your thoughts are yours alone. It is not being disrespectful or being uncooperative to law enforcement personnel, you are just playing it safe. Besides, if you already in trouble you do not need to get in more trouble. Remember anything you say can be used against you. The downside, anything you say cannot help you in any way shape or form. So...just shut up and let the lawyers do the talking.

I'm planning to go to the US this july with a family of 4. I'm the only one who can speak english among them. We're planning to make a trip from Miami to Orlando by car (rented). Another member of my family is going to take the wheel on that trip and I'm wondering how we're supposed to deal with a cop since the driver can't speak english. Can I speak for him/her? Act as a translator? Any tips on how to deal with a cop as a tourist (since we will not be able to go to court by the limited time we have there, so some of the actions the video suggested may not apply)?

EVERY TIME, I was as courteous as I possibly could be, saying yes-sir, no-sir, etc. and they were ALWAYS decent to me and stayed within the boundaries of the (traffic) stop. I feel like if i take advice from these legalistic ideas of don’t talk, etc, I would probably have been in jail by now, or worse…

Friends don't let friends get busted. Friends get the Busted video and show it to their friends. I purchased this video, showed it to my friends. They borrowed it, showed it to their friends. One of my friends had teens and they threw a Busted party for their friends. I have a friend who got pulled over. Since he saw the Busted video many times (watched it himself, watched it with adult friends, watched it with his teens), he knew exactly what to do. (My friend definitely looks like a Brooklyn hipster, very much 420 even though he's not into that.) By following the instructions, the cop knew that my friend was safe, that he wasn't going anywhere and that he knew his rights. My friend got a warning. Pro tip: Know what someone can see when you open the front door or back door to your apartment or house. Hang a privacy curtain, set-up a room divider or screen so that people can't easily peek inside when you open the door--especially important when you've got a Visitor wearing Blue (or Gray, or Tan...) A neighbor called the cops on me. It was clearly harassment. The fools who were harassing me discussed calling the cops within earshot of me. I kept my cool and went into my apartment. I kept the window open, so I could hear what was going on outside. Since I knew that I was going to have a Visitor wearing Blue, I closed the doors to the bedroom and bathroom and pulled my privacy curtain. If I didn't have that privacy curtain, you could see into my living room when I opened up the front door. I got the idea to put-up a privacy curtain from a friend whose apartment had a similar layout to mine. So, when the cop knocked on my door and I opened up, there was nothing to see. (To the best of my knowledge, I don't have something that I shouldn't have. However, the ops are the cops. I had a cordial encounter with the police. The cop told me what to do about the harassing neighbor, and it worked. My neighbor stopped harassing me.

I am right at 60 years of age and have worked "very close to" law enforcement all my life; in my job and through family members involvement. I used to automatically love, respect and admire ALL cops just because they were cops. However, over the past 20 to 30 years, I/we ALL have seen such a huge and rapid decline in the behavior of cops that it clearly shows systemic problems. And IF a cop gets reprimanded at all, they're given TWO WEEKS OFF WITH PAY AND BENEFITS? You gotta be kidding!

That black police officer asked the boy if he was handicapped. That black officer doesn't even know what the word handicapped means nor does he know the full ramification of it. That officer has never had any encounters with disabled people. Nor does he have any friends or family members who are disabled. He most certainly should not expound on something he knows absolutely positively nothing about. That officer should use the word disabled not handicapped. The word handicapped is both very derogatory and both very offensive to people who are mentally challenged. You should use the word disabled and not handicapped. Those particular individuals have rights. And they must be properly respected at all times. These particular individuals are dignified human beings and they should be treated as such. These particular individuals are procuring employment in the local community. They are much more dependable and have fewer absentee problems than the average everyday individual. And they do whatever it takes to get the job done. Sure,there are some disabled individuals who are very slow at learning things. Just because they are slow at learning things doesn't necessarily mean that they can't do them. It just takes them longer to do them that's all. That police officer had absolutely positively no right at all to ask that boy if he was handicapped. He is not a doctor. He has absolutely positively no right at all to make that distinction or determination. You have to have a doctors degree or a psychology degree in order to determine if a person has a disability. You simply can't determine if a person has a disability just by looking at them. The average everyday person most certainly is not capable in determining if a person has a disability. That officer has absolutely positively no right to determine if that boy has a disability or not. He most certainly should not make any assumptions about anybody unless he knows their situation. Matthew 7:1-6: Do not judge,and you will not be judged. Because the judgments you give are the judgments you will get,and the standard you use will be the standard used for you. Why do you observe the splinter in your brother's eye and never notice the great log in your own? And how dare you say to your brother,Let me take the splinter out of your eye,when,look,there is a great log in your own? Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first,and then you will see clearly enough to take the splinter out of your brother's eye. Do not give dogs what is holy;and do not throw your pearls in front of pigs,or they may trample them and then turn on you and tear you to pieces. What that police officers needs to start doing is to start attending church this Sunday and to start reflecting upon what he has done. He needs to find a church where the Bible is taught and Jesus is the final authority. He needs to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his Personal Lord and Savior or he will burn in hell.

It's shocking that lawyers don't even know the'legal' definition of who is legally considered a driver. A driver is always defined as someone hired to transport commerce. Most Americans are simply traveling from A to B, home to work, or whatever. Traveling is a constitutionally protected RIGHT. A 'license' is granted by government and considered a privilege and can therefore can be rescinded for just about any reason. DON'T GIVE UP YOUR RIGHTS FOR A PRIVILEGE. Heres a funny story to consider. My Grandfather purchased his 'drivers license' from a vending machine for a quarter. He would show it to nearly everyone. He traveled in his car for decades without a 'valid drivers license'.

I Love the Videos, there great! I knew all this stuff long before watching them. That being said I have at one time allowed cops to search my car. I however was the first and only owner of it and knew was nothing to hide. In doing so I was able to use that tactic to deflect the cops attention to something else that may or may have not been illegal. But yes generally you always say no! and or nothing at all. Also I found it affective to get the cop to at first admit to the exact reason(s).
@apappas4482
@apappas4482 10 жыл бұрын
first scenario: Speeding laws are ridiculous, but if you have nothing to hide and allow the consent to search, then your ticket will likely be for a slower speed. Cooperation usually leads to cooperation. In the second scenario, the driver was certainly cited for driving at a hazardous speed, and that will cost much more. The officer might even arrest him, and in many counties where 20 mph over the speed limit is an arrestable offense, he could do it. So this video really applies to people who have something illegal in the car. My advice is to not carry illegal items in your car.

I've also heard "don't play dumb", so as much as it is a confession it also will help the encounter. Police stops are a push and pull of power, so giving a little will go a long way. If you want to fight it out in court go ahead, but that's lawyers and possibly jail time; where giving a little can be just a ticket (probably less than the lawyer fees).
