About the Wheelie Burnout. It's not Impossible. The torque causing the wheelie comes from the friction interaction with the ground, like you said. The force due to friction is dependent upon the coefficient of friction between the rubber and the ground. That coefficient doesn't disappear when the wheels break loose, though. When entering a burnout, you're simply dropping from the coefficient of static friction to the lower coefficient of sliding friction. So you still have the identical mechanism available to do dank whoolies, but you'd need more power going to the rear wheels to achieve the same level of force. Meaning it's not *impossible*, just *improbable*. That's not stopped F&F in the past, though, and we love them for it. We love them like... Family.

So couple things I want to bring up... There are vehicles with multiple reverse gears. An Eaton 10 speed (most common semi truck transmission) has Hi Lo. So it has a Hi 5 and Lo 5. There's also a Hi reverse and Lo reverse. (Hi reverse is rarely used). Point being... It's definitely possible. Also as for the nos tank blowup, it's a pressurized tank full of oxygen. An influx of oxygen definitely has an affect of fire. you can test this with those PC cleaner cans which are just pressurized oxygen. I can't imagine nitrous oxygen is much different.

Lifting the front wheel while accelerating: Cars like the Ferrari GTO or F40 are said to lower the force on the front axle by 90% while speeding, which might bring lifting the front wheels in reach, though, these constructions use a generally light rear engine layout, not a full blown big block in front... I guess, a tuned Lancia Stratos might do it, but on the other hand, any race car apart from dragsters will get a weight balance, that keeps it maneuverable in corners, even when accelerating to some extent.

@10:19 this is doable, as anyone who ever played around in a sufficiently advanced racing simulator knows, you can lower the final drive ratio , increase all the other ratios to their mathematical equivalent, and the result is a low enough reverse gear ratio that you can speed on a highway, few issues that simply can't be fixed any way while keeping the car a car meant for moving forward and high speed reverse a "bonus" are caster, the caster is always set so the car balances itself straight but when you flip it 180 degrees it does the opposite, it becomes extremely sensitive and it will surely end you. The second problem is the reverse ratio is high for a reason, using a lower ratio will make the stopped -> driving transition one hell of a clutch burner if you went with a gear ratio low enough (for a high enough reverse speed). So while yes, it is possible, no, no-one sane enough would ever do this to their real life car, this isn't a simulator where you use a few sliders and bam.

nitrous oxide is an oxydizer (its in the name), it itself wouldn't detonate, but if the car is on fire already, it will make it a few hundred times worse in a very intense and very rapid manner, which is exactly what happened in the clip. there was a fuel fire first, which burst the bottle and released all of that gas in a uncontrolled and rather violent manner, there by hyper-oxydizeing it and making the whole tank go up almost at once. there's a lot of energy in gasoline.
@HenryMidfields Жыл бұрын

I just always assumed the nos explosion was from the fuel tank being shot...then the nos just accelerating the combustion like spraying fire with oxygen.
@vaninda17512 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the nos would not burn or explode itself but it would be one hell of an oxidizer for any fuel.
@avsky952 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ on the NOX explosion. Yes, they made it more cinematic with the green flames and such. But NOX are system with NO in the tank. Tank design for holding it are most likely high pressure in the range of 3000 psi. Heat from a car burning can rupture the tank causing an explosion. So it should be possible to get an explosion from the NOX in the car from burning.

@ianlerner60923 жыл бұрын
on the point of the first one, idk about you but when I've done burnouts in my car still gets pushed forward and if I let off the brakes entirely I will usually start moving forward 20 feet then the wheels firmly grip the ground and the burnout ends. Suffice it to say, my car doesn't have half the amount of torque it would need to pop a wheelie but if he needs 700 torque and his car has a thousand or more I think the wheelie burnout mix could be possible

Donut Media, if that wastegate trick isnt possible then could you explain how Nissan R90ck driven by Blundell was able to reach completely new top speeds on the mulsanne straight back in the day despite having broken turbo? they say its wastegate was stuck closed. The engine probably broke afterwards but regardless it was given a big boost to power. Its obviously a racecar but would be cool to hear how did that work and why did that work and not this one? @Rubijoyal2 жыл бұрын
actually doing 100mph in reverse is possible with a tall enough rear gear and final drive gear setup, though in order to this, the reverse gear would have to be close to a 1:1 gear ratio in relation to the final drive gear, or even be an over drive gear in order to do this, provided the engine has enough torque to grunt the car in motion.

In theory you can do a light burnout -- and then do a whellie --- especially on the normal asphalt ..... It would require almost perfect conditions --- as the tires are cold they have limited traction, and while hot they have significantly more traction.... Since the tire getting hot gains traction -- it is somewhat possible to do that not starting with high rpms (at first light burnout while next going for a wheelie) but the smoke will end quickly as the car would go --- exactly like in the movie. In the movie it was fake probably as they take a lot of shots of the same scene -- still it is possible :)
@WP-6V92TA3 жыл бұрын
If it had a tractor transmission it is true that they have multiple reverse gears (Up to 8 on various mechanical transmission tractors) however, you would need such a high rear end gear ratio that the rear end gear itself would be incredibly fragile. So going that fast in reverse would be plausible, but not practical or even safe.

Car would instantly run lean as hell, overheating like BAD. Even with EFI a change that drastic (tardo turbo) would probably cause the car to backfire or run super lean. I also think even though the turbo would speed up, it shouldn't speed up instantly like pictured. The "Zombie" or hacked cars is worst. If there are not motors to control those aspects, how would you remotely control them? For example, if there is nothing there to compress the brake pedal, what compresses it? Same with steering? Maybe an electronic throttle could be activated?

I don't completely agree with the first one. When the wheels start to spin, there isn't 'no friction.' The equation for friction has a coefficient of friction between 2 surfaces, in this case the rear tire contact patch and road. There are 2 coefficients, one static (wheels not spinning), and another dynamic (wheels spinning.) The dynamic coefficient of friction is lower than static, and you are liquifying the outer layer of rubber causing even less forward force. But there could be a big enough friction force with wheels spinning, esp slowly to accelerate the car fast enough to get your 2.6 g's of accel upward.
