As an Aussie, I've been in numerous areas with wild snakes whilst camping. The one thing I found that IS a good/great deterent is Bass!! Any song/music with a heavy Bass Definetly works and has kept venomous/wild snakes away from my campsite....

Does that mean AU snakes hate AC/DC?
@beasta814 ай бұрын
@@bokami3445 Nah, indigenous songs that have didgeridoos in it works so much better, constant bassy drone/vibration. Although AC/DC does have good bass, it's not enough to deter snakes and make them feel uncomfortable as it's rythmic and has intervals or empty space between beats, whereas didgeridoos are constant with the vibration. I think it all relates to how snakes hear/sense vibrations.
@bokami34454 ай бұрын
@@beasta81 I was kidding but your theory about didgeridoos is interesting. I wonder if the instrument serves a dual purpose. Perhaps the AU Bushmen learned that above being a tribal musical instrument, it also had the benefit of dissuading (venomous) snakes from looking for a warm body to snuggle up to at night. Food for thought. Thanks!

Where I live in the US, I've found that the same goes for deer. Don't see nearly as many when my stereo is cranked up, and the sub is really going. Or my big block 76 Chevy Silverado does about the same. Anything within a half mile knows when that truck fires up. So basically bass saves lives right?

The repellent tests have a flaw that is a theme in mythbuster tests. The test overloads the effect the substance might have. In reality a repellent only needs to make the protected area unpleasant enough that the animal chooses another area. The test should include two options for the animal, one that has a repellent one that doesn't. If animals have a need and there is only one game in town they will go there even if it is outright dangerous to them. When wolves have no food they will attack guardian dogs, that doesn't mean the dog doesn't repel wolves. Hungry bears will ignore bear spray. There are lots of examples like that. A repellent test should be set up to test if it is a repellent not if it is a complete barrier.

Completely agree. Couldn't have said it better myself.

think putting so many snakes(especially of different species) in such a small area probably effected the results of the deterrant tests. Remember, snakes tend to be pretty solitary, they were probably trying to get away from the others or at least out of the cramped but open space to somewhere they felt safer
@unfortunately_fortunate2000Ай бұрын
captive bred and owned snakes while not social often times don't mind tank sharing & given how big the set was it offered all of them ample space to themselves, see one of them climbing the walls of the set as evidence of that. still I think it'd of been a lot more accurate to do it one at a time too

they often misunderstand things. this passenger seat steering is confirmed 100%, cuz from all the movies i've seen, passenger only has to drive straight and there's no slalom or obstacle avoidance. every movie i've seen where this happens, they just drive straight or make slight turns, nothing as complex as they made it. another thing, is when driver is shooting, they rarely hit. in movies they shoot 100 bullets and maybe 1 hits, so i say that's already confirmed, you CAN have passenger hold the steering while you drive and hang out the window. nobody ever said it's as effective as 1 person driving, idea is that it's possible and it IS possible.

@hizzy70Ай бұрын
@@moonchild4806 you clearly haven't been on a smoke ride before, you have made it far more complicated than just holding the wheel. Now you have to lean over with your left arm holding a bowl while you lean on that same arm, then you need to reach in his view with your right and then light it for him. Hold it while he takes a hit and become intimate with your friend as you hold a bowl that strangely looks like your cupping a pair of balls to his mouth OR you could simply just hold the wheel. Not to mention that your way is far more dangerous as well. In the mythbusters case tho, the person in the passenger seat should just shoot the gun themselves and let the other dude drive

@@tendrel_sound that's a lot more dangerous than someone with with free hands, then the person steeing is now multitasking. No grip on the wheel, if you need to make an dire decision, youre done bro no saving yourself without thumbs. Probably wont be able to grab the wheel in time when both your hands are full youll probably run someone over. Also taking your eyes off the road to see where to accurately light the bowl. When you have a passenger and they're sitting there doing nothing and they are not multitasking, they might as well steer the car bro. Thats like trying to convince me 1 brain is better than 2 and it's just not. But I am sure you're one of those types of stubborn people that would rather make the situation more dangerous than to ask for help. I've come across that type, they wouldn't let me do it for them and it's just stupid af and unnecessarily dangerous. Asking someone for help isn't a sign of weakness bro it's a sign of intelligence.

Actually, you do want a snake setting up in your home as snakes go where they find food and if there's one living in your home, that means it's found food - large bugs and rodents being their normal food - so which do you prefer, rodents destroying your home or a snake eating them? I had a black racer set up shop in my garage due to rodents getting in and he happily coexisted with the wife and I once we established we weren't going to hurt him - he would lay on top of the hot water heater to stay warm and survey the garage for rodents and while he never tolerated us petting or closely interacting with him, he eventually stopped acting defensively whenever we came in or the wife did laundry, simply keeping an eye on us and accepting that we were a non-threatening part of his environment. When I finally figured out where the rodents were coming in from and sealed it, he eventually left on his own due to there being no more food for him - literally watched him crawl out the door one day when it was opened a month later. So as you can see, non-venomous snakes are good things to have on your property and in your home.
