I got scammed through a phishing website on Facebook. Went through a company allegedly to 'get my funds back' (the name of the company). Turns out i would have had to pay $7000 to retrieve $3,300. That would have been a scam in itself. Thankfully, the bank saw through it and flagged as suspicious. They also stopped my card and issued me with a new one.

This is a BRILLIANT piece! I am very sceptical of main stream news outlets but when you do stories like this, this restores a little bit of faith that you can do the right thing from time to time. But...the obvious frustration that I could see your reporters experience when trying to assist the victims, is NOTHING in comparison to what multiple people or heroes that do this not even as their job, but as their LIFE! They need more recognition & more support in general but especially from the government's of the countries that are being targeted. There have been quite a few raids. The problem tends to be the local police. The main issue actually is the indian job market not providing nearly enough employment compared to the number of people graduating in comp sci courses and similar education. While the grand majority doesn't go into scamming the temptation is significant. I fear that without fixing this underlying issue this industry will continue to thrive even if you get the indian police on board and well funded.

I had two active numbers claiming to be the ATO, I spent 24 minutes playing with him, I told him my name is Jim Browning, after taking all my false details down he passed me on to a "closer" to get me to pay what I owed, the penny finally droppped after he recognised the name. If Indian law enforcement authorities won't do anything about these scam call centres, the solution is simple: no more work visas should be granted to Indians wanting to migrate to Australia. No more travel visas to Indians either. No trade with India. Only with such sanctions their government would take action against those who prey on the weakest of our society, and perhaps against the local cops who take a cut and keep it quiet too.

The only thing the Do Not Call Registry does for you is to enable you to sue US based companies for violations of the Telephone Consumers Protection Act. I recovered $25,000 in 18 months from final expense insurance, insurance company lead generators and political robocallers. Once that happens you are put on the real Do Not Call list. However, this does not stop these assholes. They’re criminals and I still get a lot of calls from Amazon scammers and other scumbags. I insult them with Hindi slurs and waste their time. I’m not technically savvy enough to set up a virtual machine to let them look at bogus bank accounts. I steal their time which is fun

Gave me the confidence to speak to the scammers and to ask them the questions about what they were doing, why they are doing this form of work and the consequences of their actions for not only the people they scam but about their own future. The two I have spoken are of Christian faith. I ask them how they are going to feel when they stand before their God to account to Him. One male scammer justified his actions due to no other work and a corrupt government (not sure if he was meaning his or ours). The other scammer, a female sounded ashamed. If you are going to speak with them, just be aware that they are worried about other scammers sitting near listening to them and so your questions might need to be yes/no questions and their answers might be quite simple. I followed the pattern of speaking to them that I heard on the show. I also dropped the line that I knew they were in Delta Four in Calcutta. Gave me credibility. Definitely think this documentary should be shown again. Thank you so much for doing it.
