I really enjoy your videos Karen, they are so entertaining and this one is as good as the others. I do admire what you have done while being in the uk, driving a caravan all around England by yourself is quite an achievement, I’m not sure I’d want to do the same thing, it’s bad enough sometimes just driving a car, never mind towing a caravan. I like that when you go for walks your quite adventurous, taking paths that may not be paths but you keep going and you keep smiling and you always seem to enjoy you adventure. I think a lot of people take the history of the uk for granted, we live with it all the time and probably don’t take much notice of it, I think it’s beneficial to have visitors like yourself who point out the history to remind us how interesting our local history is. I can’t believe only one person turned up in London, it would have been terrible if they hadn’t, thankfully it seems you had a good time anyway and good for that Lady to not let you down. Like I said at beginning, a very entertaining video, thanks Karen.

When i visited London on my way to Ireland, i remember driving on the highways there and yes they were a treat... but if you have driven in New York, Chicago, or even the Cayman lsland like i have then that will prepare you quite well. And i know they may have called that a roundabout but that was not a roundabout. That was more like a Traffic Engineers nightmare. And i do love all the stone buildings and wild walking paths. And the country side was just splendid to behold...the squirrels were cool too. We have a few areas around the City here where the squirrels are so use to human interaction they will take peanuts from a out stretched hand...thanks for sharing...Vic

Hats off to your chutzpah K; early in your trip you had a baptism of fire in The Lakes that has, sadly but predictably, coloured your driving experience since. I can but admire you taking on our roads with such a bug "rig", something I've never done. BTW: Typical knight of the road at 07:08 (not!).

@@TravellingK I'm going to be honest and answer your question with a "yes". However, you've done admirably well since that Lake District experience and your growing confidence is obvious. I'm in awe of what you took on for your trip here and so have nothing but admiration for the way you stared it down! My concern was that you'd conflate a bad towing experience with a bad visit to our country, but your posts have shown that this isn't the case... by an historic country mile :-).

A bit of background for you, which might explain something about the English. That row of pretty little cottages (2'30") are called Arlington Row and were one of the inspirations of the Arts and Crafts movement, particularly William Morris. Subsequently the forms, proportions and motifs found in that little strip of farmers houses were the basis for many of the council built public housing terraces and semi-detached houses in the Garden City concepts of the 1920's to 1950's. Those same forms were exported around the Anglosphere world, so you've literally hit one of the touchstones for British architecture. So that tiny patch of 14th century wool worker cottages are the basis for millions of houses around the world. When someone asks you why British houses are so tiny and un-modern you can blame Arlington Row, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement.
@TravellingK5 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting! I was wondering why those houses were being targeted when there were other equally pretty houses around.

Watching that, having driven in Germany ,Spain, Japan , the Middle East and all over the US. I say that the traffic there looks like a lot of traffic in the bigger US cities. We in the US do have the perchance for making ridiculously large highway interchanges. The super highway near me was 4 lanes (2 a side) when I moved in. Its a 1/4 mile from me. Over the years its grown to 6 lanes and the interchange near me is about 12 lanes wide. I can hear it loud and clear now.

Travelling K There are red squirrels on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour in Dorset, on Anglesey, the Isle of Wight, good places to spot them are Ventnor Botanical Gardens and Osbourne House, which was Queen Victoria’s holiday home, the Lake District, Cumbria and Northumberland. The grey squirrels carried a pox which infected the reds, plus they compete for the same food and habitat and the reds being smaller, tend to loose out. The islands of Brownsea, Anglesey and the Isle of Wight are free from greys, so the reds can thrive. I like them both, but having been lucky enough to have red squirrels come and sit beside me on the Isle of Wight, the reds are very special to me! I’m really enjoying your videos, I’m working my way through your NZ ones too!

I saw on another video that you are allowed to walk on private land in the uk as long as you close gates behind you

Oh I’ll have a look!

Wow! All those little cars whizzing around you. Nobody drives "pick em up" trucks in the UK? That would be another big difference to towing a camper in North America.
@TravellingK5 жыл бұрын
Is a pick em up truck a Ute? I only noticed a couple at the campgrounds. More common in NZ!
@carycoombe33805 жыл бұрын
@@TravellingK Yes, a UTE is like a small pickup truck. However, a lot of the large campers here are "fifth wheels" and require a larger truck and a massive hitch bolted down to the middle of the truck bed. Those fifth wheel campers are HUGE, and the trucks that you need to haul them are big monsters, compared to a UTE. You really should come see them for yourself.

I've taken a trailer through Los Angeles twice. Never again. I'd rather take a 100 mile detour. Greater London? Not a chance in... I applaud your nerve, Karen.

Oh I imagine Los Angeles would be challenging!!

I’m a lorry driver and I hate London with a passion. People there are so selfish.

So stressed and dangerous the aggressive traffic. Horror. And all the mindless egotistic behavior. So off-putting. Such a bad traffic culture. Is it only in the big cities or is it all over the nation ?
@TravellingK5 жыл бұрын
Overall I’ve been impressed with how patient people have been when the caravan slowed them down.
