The music for the secret level of Chapter 1 needed to actually be built of 2 separate parts, one more ambient and one for action (due to how the level is designed). Shame that most people won't actually end up hearing this in game. I've left a subtle hint somewhere about which level it can be accessed from. ;)

That callback is slightly intentional. Trent really likes to utilize minor to major melodies over plucked bass (also does it in the Blops 2 Main Menu theme) and I wanted to capture that sound for this track. The feeling it gives me always makes me think of a dark discovery. Was also inspired by a few other musicians for this like Massive Attack. Thanks for the comment! :)

Would you consider the soundtrack to be MIDI-sounding, 8 bit-sounding, 16 bit-sounding, or none of the above? I can see where it pulls from the archetypical "MIDI sound" (even if a lot of game soundtracks are still MIDI in format) a la Doom and DOS games, but I wouldn't call it "MIDI-sounding". What do you think?

I'm designing the soundscape to be a bit more realistic and dynamic than the classic retro FPS, and the soundtrack is an extension of that idea.
