Hello! The video lesson is very helpful and interesting. It helps us understanding their usage and meaning in sentences. Making such kind of video lesson requires lots of experience. Hats off to you! May I kindly request you to make a video lesson about the usage and meaning of the phrase " by the same token " in sentence. I would be much obliged. Thanking you for your hard work and dedication. Best Wishes, Fazil

I'm happy that this video has helped you, Fazil. I will put "by the same token" on my list of videos to create. This phrase simply means "in the same way". For example, "Don't be so negative about this job prospect, but, by the same token, stay positive because you have all the credentials." I will make a video on this in the near future. Have a great day! :)

Hi! Is " I used to be strong whereas I am not anymore" a right sentence? Thank you 🙏❤️
@Erlkis
@Erlkis 4 жыл бұрын
I used to be strong, but not anymore. There is only one subject in this sentence - 'I'. I used to be strong. I'm not strong anymore. If you remove the subject 'I' from the second phrase, which you can do, you can see imediately that you need to use 'but'. I used to be strong, whereas not anymore. X (This doesn't sound right.) I used to be strong, but not anymore. Yes (This is correct.) :)

Why in the sentence about the blue and red car, the answer is but? she said it is because we still talk about cars ..... but why in the example of right eye and left eye she uses "whereas "? I understand it can be the same as cars because we still talking about eyes. ?'' It confused me
@Erlkis
@Erlkis 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, This is one those topics where teachers have different opinions on which word to use. I've used 'but' for the cars because the difference is 'price' rather than the car itself; one is cheaper than the other. Whilst we are talking about a 'car', they are both very different with different price tags. The example of 'eyes' belong to the same person. The mechanism of the eye is the same, therefore referring to a comparison, rather than difference. It just so happens that one of the eyes is behaving differently. :)

Can we use "while" rather than " "whereas "?
@Erlkis
@Erlkis 5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Yes, you can use 'while' when doing a comparison, but not when used for time. For example, "Jackie chopped the salad while I peeled the potatoes." You can't say, "Jackie chopped the salad, whereas I peeled the potatoes." :) I'm planning on doing another video to talk about the difference between 'whereas' and 'while'.
