Lol just found out (from watching an old vlog) that I actually bought the Angelus Press Edition when I had lost my first little blue book. I was on the site buying the biography of Gabrielle Lefebvre, who was a Secular Franciscan, and saw the LOBVM. Mystery solved!

I'm pretty sure all the Lefebvres were some sort of religious, weren't they! What a blessing! They remind me of St Therese's family.

St. Bonaventure Publications has an edition (Original 1915, not revised according to 1961 I believe.) The CMRI Sisters sell it on their website. Thank you for your videos,

Yes, I think Baronius Press went with the pre-Challoner Douay Rheims bible text whereas sounds like Angelus Press went with the Challoner text - like most books do. Interesting that the prayers are different too. We had memorized the English De Profundis for Compline and then our priest recited it after Mass during November, and we were all stumbling all over the place as they were different.

Also, it would be really handy to have the accent marks. I like having the chant though. Jonathan Kader's version, when it comes out, will be awesome (liberreader.wordpress.com/) but also pretty enormous.

Deanna, do you recite Marian Anthems (Regina Coeli, Salve Regina, etc...) when praying the offices? It's in some rubrics I've found, but not mentioned in my Angelus version.

I just ordered this, along with an illuminated Little Office by Caritas Publishing. I was using Christian Prayer, but found the language banal at best. I really didn't like the intercession that read "help us today to overcome the power of evil with the power of good." Sounds like a slogan from a kids cartoon.

XD and oooh. I’d like a peek inside the Illuminated version!

@@DeannaWillistonOFS They sell it on Amazon for $7.99. It's a very high quality book for that price. I've been using mine for a year and there's no wear and tear yet. I'd recommend it. The prints and pictures are from the 1585 edition of the Little Office, and the text is that of St. Pius X's 1910 edition. Would you recommend the Baronius Press version?

I have 2 different editions from your editions. The older one has the Imprimatur dated 1935 as well as the Nihil Obstat of the same date. It’s by Vau-Ballou Press. It has both the Latin and English side by side, like yours. There are a few other variances which I see from your editions. I also have a 1979 10th printing edition which is only in English. This edition is from the Franciscan Herald Press and the copyright is dated 1950, but the Imprimatur is dated 1944. Interesting, my older edition shows the indulgences dating back as far 1879 from Pope Leo XIII.

Fraternal Greetings to you! I just wondered.... in this Angelus Press handy edition.... is there an Antiphon preceding the Psalm, then ending with it? Or is it like the 1988 CBP edition where it only has the Psalm's Antiphon at the beginning? Is it more closer to the Liturgy of the Hours where the Antiphon is at the start and end of the Psalm?
@DeannaWillistonOFS2 жыл бұрын
Full antiphon at the beginning and end of each psalm.
@maxheinrichliebow2 жыл бұрын
@@DeannaWillistonOFS excellent. I recently got the CBP one and was quite disappointed in many ways. I found the Antiphon layout confusing and fiddly, and much of the general layout was a bit topsy turvy. I tried to prayerful manage. Ive returned it today, and gone ahead and ordered the Angelus Press edition just now - as your review and info here sheds a lot of light on things. Pax. Greetings from Stratford OFS, London 🤗

@@juliawoods-larsen2088 yes! There are quite a few Catholic lay organizations with Franciscan spirituality. I discuss that more here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2TPqWN3Yphqb8U . @@DeannaWillistonOFS I originally applied to be a Benedictine oblate, but then covid happened and made travel to the monastery almost impossible. So I tried inquiring to the Franciscans, but the lady that runs it said “I’ll write you back and give you more info” and then never wrote back. That was about a month ago. I guess it’s not meant to be.

@@michaellancaster8221 entering a Third Order should depend more on your charism than on your proximity to a meeting. I visited the websites & read their newsletters of Secular Franciscans for months before I visited and visited for months before I was invited to join an Orientation class. It sounds as if you have a calling to something, but what that is yet, you do not know. Be patient (I know this is difficult in the beginning), read & study, spend time before the Eucharist, and find a Spiritual Director if you can. If and what charism you have will become evident as you discern and please be patient with fraternities; the pandemic has thrown new challengers at everyone. God bless!
