Let me add one thing - Snow White's songs are iconic in their own right because they're honestly kind of unattainable, unreachable. I have never ever seen a great cover of Someday my prince will come. They're SO hard to sing, because they're so markedly from their time. I have nothing against the pop ballads that are disney princess songs today but there's something so beautiful and just so fairy taleish about the old timey songs. Also, any and every thing that references disney princesses references either the wishing well song or whistle while you work. Iconic💁🏻♀️

I really think that SnowWhite has several good qualities. She is so kind, that the hunter couldn't kill her. Then she is left alone in the woods, she is scared, but she managed to control her fear and make it to the dwarves' house. She arrived there, she assumed that all the mess was because there were unattended children living there, so she decided she had to help. Then, she met the dwarves and made a deal with them in order to survive, offering the only thing that she could do: cleanning and cooking (not her fault if she has not been educated). She is hardworking, caring, unselfish, and smart enough to survive. She has also the ability to make allies (the animals, the dwarfs..). At the end, she needs the help of the prince to break the spell but come on! needing the help of someone else (a man in this case) doesn't make you a bad example for the young audience. I hate when people simplifies her story to: a princess waiting for the prince to rescue her.

i absolutely agree!

I also admire how she took full control of the household, whilst living under their roof. I find it really funny that people find her anti-feminist because she cooks & cleans (when shock horror every human should do). She actually becomes the boss of the household by making SEVEN MEN abide by her rules
@mcchilde29034 жыл бұрын
But the truth of the matter is,none of those admirable qualities of hers mattered. In today's context,you might say that cooking and cleaning is required for everyone and I agree. But back then,it was a requirement and a job for women only. I would say the dwarves were happy they got a free piece of eyecandy to do housework for them(which also furthers the "men can't do housework without women") stereotype. In the end,all it took to save her was some random prince strolling through the forest to take a fancy to her pretty face and kiss her. That's it.
@mcchilde29034 жыл бұрын
I also agree that taking help is not bad, but tell me,when did she ask for help? It wasn't asked for and it was a non consensual kiss(I know that consent didn't mean shit to such people) but replace the handsome prince with an ugly person and the prince would've been a villian in this story. I'm sorry, but that's just how fairytales are. The only truly admirable princess there is,would undeniably be Belle(if you leave her being a "not like other girls" aside)
@mcchilde29034 жыл бұрын
@@miathorne9479 I disagree with that as well. She "took control" as you say it,as any submissive housewife would. She was simply doing cooking and cleaning. However, she did technically "scold" the dwarves so I'll give you that much credit.

I actually appreciate every Disney princess. Because they all bear qualities that inspire young girls, be it kindness, bravery, optimism, independence tbh all princesses are iconic in their own way.

from the original trilogy, i agree that snow white is kind of the boring one -especially when cinderella has better songs and sleeping beauty has simply beautiful design and animation -but theres a kind of beauty in that 1930s, cutesy style of woodland animals and blushing doves. i dont remember much about it storywise, yeah, but the look of it has become truly iconic. i really recommend you look up The Adventures of Prince Achmed, if youre interested in animation. its credited as being maybe the second or third animated movie ever made (i think snow white was the fourth one), and it is made entirely with shadow puppets. i really love Lotte Reiniger, the director of that movie -also one of the first if not The first female animation director 🙌🏼

This was such a lovely video! I've actually come to really appreciate Snow White over the past few years, and while she might not be the most fleshed out princess, she is one of my favorites. I really liked the way you narrated. It was calm and quiet but not boring and monotone. Btw, I was sent here by ModernGurlz. Keep up the good work!

Snow White is a pioneer of her time, and is a strong, resourceful, persevering, hopeful, optimistic, kind, honest, generous, hardworking, prudent, patient, and loyal princess. She had a good cry after finding out that her only remaining guardian who had enslaved her for years now wanted her dead and had a hitman hired who tricked her into picking flowers, and her situation went from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds. Her life as she knew it was over, so of course she would run to the forest and cry, but she picked herself up, apologized to the animals for making such a scene (when she shouldn’t have, as it’s completely understandable to be hysterical and mortified that she no longer has a home and her only parent/mother figure has a death warrant for her head and could orchestrate her death at any minute, as she has the resources to do so) and used her wits and all of her mental and physical abilities to survive to hide from the queen and to have financial and life security in her prince, so she did everything she could for a woman and person of her time. she’s just portrayed on the surface level as just simple and sweet, but if you dig into her character, she actually did a lot.
@upclosebyilhaan29464 жыл бұрын
that's a really nice way to think about it, i honestly had no idea that so many people like snow white, because prior to my research i envisioned her as the one everyone always forgets about :/ but she really is a pioneer
@Nobody1234 жыл бұрын
@@upclosebyilhaan2946 i’m really shocked too because prior to seeing videos like this not too long ago, I saw people criticizing her and calling her weak, but then posts like the one on Tumblr were made about how much inner strength she had to have in order to stop crying, compose herself, and then remain optimistic and cheery. If that’s not compartmentalizing and putting away your sheer terror and crippling anxiety and depression for what had just happened to her, I don’t know what is
