For the kids who've only known wrestling from the "Attitude Era" to now, there are some things you should know. Nothing you see here, except the outcome, was choreographed or known before the two men stepped into the ring. These men didn't speak, didn't see other, didn't arrive together and dressed on opposite sides of the venue. They figured out the whole match - every kick, every punch, every hold - in the ring, in the moment. The promoter told them both what the ending would be and it was up to them to get there. This was when wrestling was more than just a soap opera - it was an event that looked (and likely felt) real.

The eightie were great but it was the decade where defensive wrestling died . Everything was offense . I remember as a fan thinking that if you let someone fully synch in an ankle lock the match is over . But you would see people work an ankle lock for 2-minutes with no countering to try to take the pressure off . It exposed to me just how fake wrestling was . I always knew but they used to do a better job of authenticizing the manuvers .
@georgeelmerdenbrough6906
@georgeelmerdenbrough6906 5 жыл бұрын
Look at the sleeper . Once you synch that its over . But not in wrestling . 30- 40 seconds of consticted airflow is all you need . Peobably less .When MMA got popular I thought maybe fans would demand more realism in wrestling but all that happened was old wrestling fans started watching MMA exclusively . I can't do that . I apoeeciate the skill of fighters but as ebntertainment its a gamble .Imagine the main event of Wrestlemania lasting 40 seconds luke Coerrone did . You would feel cheated . To me wrestling can bridge that gap between Sport Entertainment whoch makes no sense at all and MMA which is too real . The problem today is that most of the people becoming wrestlers were fans of Titan Sports Entwrtainment . They want to be actors , they want fame but they don't really have any idea how to connect with an audience and make it seem nearly real . You would have to start with guys who were interested in other sports as kids to try and bring wrestling back

Butch Reed was a natural heel and that is why they called him The Natural .It wasn't because that physique was natural . Dusty Rhodes was indeed a very gifted athlete . How many fat guys have you ever seen that can move so quickly ? That being said , I had grown so tired of Dusty Rhodes and his high drama movie land wrestling that I would alway cheer his opponent . Butch Reed was never the draw Dusty Rhodes was but I liked his style a hell of a lot more than Rhodes' . I was a minority but not as small a minority as it may have seemed . Dusty was over staying his welcome .

Dusty wanted the limelight more than the money itself I believe because even when he was the booker in WCW ,he couldn't stay behind the scenes. Dusty had to keep booking himself on top and as much as the fans loved him,even they began booing and jeering at him because they saw too much of him. He craved the spotlight. As a booker you knew he was breaded up big time ($$$$$$$) He should've kicked back,booked a ton of hot angles,got paid and booked himself sparingly every now and again....it would've been better.
