Butchering Deer in the Outdoor Kitchen has Attracted Wolves to the Cabin

A typical autumn day spent processing firewood and cutting and wrapping meat for the freezer becomes interesting when a pack of wolves starts howling at the end of the meadow in front of the cabin, in broad daylight. Cali the golden retriever is curious but nervous and sticks close to the cabin while the wolves circle downwind of the cabin to see if they can get some venison. Their presence is adding another level of difficulty to the deer hunt this fall.

Good to hear that Cali is staying away from the wolves - I remember you once mentioned (a year or two ago) that they could try and tempt her away from you while out and about. Hope you both stay cautious and stay safe.

Do the wolves call dogs to kill and eat them? Or do they call to join a bigger pack? Idk…..
@Ghostiification
@Ghostiification 7 ай бұрын
@@cbass2755 to kill and since they're opportunists they'll eat the dog too. But it's not really about targeting dogs for eating specifically, wolves consider dogs as intruders in their territory and kill them because of that. Packs do that to other lone wolves too all the time and the animals just don't realize a dog is a different thing.

When I was watching the last video of you butchering that deer, all that I could think of was how that surely would attract wolves. When my dad and his friends used to butcher moose, they had a spot to do it about 1/2 a kilometer from our cabin, for that very reason.

Here's a weird story regarding raw milk. Back in the 1970s, while eating blueberry yogurt, it apparently triggered an allergic reaction so that I was no longer able to drink milk (something I love!), or eat cheese, or other milk products. Fast forward to the 2000s. I had access to a grass-only-eating cow and was allowed to milk the cow myself and take the raw milk home. After some trepidation, I drank the non-pasturized raw milk, and lo and behold! I didn't have an allergic reaction! I have concluded that the reason for my allergy is due to the *hormones* and *antibiotics* that commercial farmers put in the cow feed. So now I can have ice cream again!

Sure wish we were allowed more than one tag here in Saskatchewan. General whitetail tags are one per person. There are certain years in certain zones they do have second tags, but very seldom. I didn't know it was generally OK now in Ontario to be able to buy/sell raw milk; I thought it was still quite legally frowned upon. The only way I know of is to own a cow yourself, or a herdshare/cow share. Certainly not legal anywhere else in Canada that I know of, anyway. Would be nice to have the choice.

Have you ever thought about making a stretching station outside somewhere to help you stretch? I would if I was out there. Cover up the pole you hang on when it's Raining Ice and Freezing Rain if you still want to use it. Something like 4 x 6s or something in the ground vertically tall enough that they stand at a height over your head enough that when you drill holes in them and add a stretch bar/pole horizontally when you reach for the pole and hang off of it your feet won't touch the ground. And then do a smaller one beside it to stretch your legs on like Waist high to grab and stretch out your calf muscles.

Hey Shawn, long time viewer here on both the channels. Think it’s great you cleared up some of the confusion, definitely helps provide some clarity to those who have been keen followers of your progress over the years. Very admirable to hear that your efforts have been stretched across two homesteads over recent years, a real testament to your work ethic. You mentioned in your update to ask any other questions in the comments section but I wasn’t quite sure where you meant so I hope this is a satisfactory place. I remain confused about the distance of this new homestead from your old one. Were you and your family forced to relocate to an entirely new region due to the neighbor issues? Or was this new hunting property relatively close by to the old cabin? God bless you and your family.
