Butchers HUGE AXE Restoration - TRIPAS 2

Restoration of a butchers HUGE AXE. It is a TRIPAS 2 from Spain early 1900s. So this is Antique.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I dissembled the axe handle from the axe head and cleaned it before I did the sandblasting. I rugged the metal up with a cleaning disc after sandblasting to achieve the rough cold steel look. I did leave all the old marks on this Tripas to retain that rough old butchers look.
I decided to give the brand name TRIPAS more attention, so I drew a new logo to the axe head which I processed in Adobe Photoshop and later AI to make a cool vector that I can transfer to CAD in my fiber laser system. It is a complicated process and it takes many hours of drawing, scaling, programming, and tiny adjustments to achieve a perfect laser engraving result.
I fitted an old axe handle that I had in my garage to the project and engraved the name in the handle. Hope that you enjoyed the project.
Please subscribe if you want to see more cool upcoming projects 🙂 And DON’T FORGET TO SEE my latest Vietnam War Zippo restoration - • Zippo Lighter Restorat...

Alex, I had the feeling awesome restorations may have worked in production at one time. His knowledge of production is remarkable. Also the technological experience in computer cad work for designing the bull emblem is impressive. Don't forget the Spanish guitar at the end. Also the type of guitar piece selected. Soft subtle calming music. Sort of tranquil. A piece set in the era the axe was made perhaps. Lots of thought and love goes into producing this movie.

This was enthralling. When I was with Dallas as a rookie, one of the jobs was refinishing the handles and axe heads. Scraping the wood with broken glass then whipping the handle and refinishing with the unit info. The heads were sanded and painted to 1" shy of the live edge. I came across a throw away head (busted handle) and being inherently lazy I decided to build a charcoal fire in a can and burn out the wood. It worked and when I carded the rust off of the head I found I had a deep, deep blued finish. It's in my personal collection now.

As an andalusian and Spanish this brings me lots of memories from my grandpa's axe collection that he used for all sorts of stuff like gardening, hunting and butchering. I still use one of his axes that I restored myself. Never forget that objects have history too, a history worth preserving and enjoying, and most important, a history worth passing on.
