You know Butch, I'm only 28, but I literally remember watching every one of these shows. Everybody's first crush was Daphne from Scooby Doo, but mine was Penelope Pitstop. Also, I totally prefer the actual Space Ghost cartoon to Coast to Coast on Adult Swim.

I remember a lot of Hanna-Barbera cartoons, not because of Boomerang, but because in the 1990s cartoon network played them. I also remember, that you used to have to pay extra to get Cartoon Network where I lived.

Wacky Races was good, but I was all about the Dick Dastardly and Muttley spinoff where they were trying to stop the pigeon. It's a testimonial to the cartoon when kids of different generations think of the show as theirs when it's sometimes pre-dated them by a number of years.

My inspirations are Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, Charlie Brown, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, a little bit of the Simpsons, a little bit of Family Guy, and Amazing World of Gumball. ( That show made me want to be a cartoonist).

Cartoon network... for me at least. I'm sure they did so before on other variants. Cartoon network was basically kickstarted from Hanna barbera.. so it featured reruns of a lot of the good ones. To include, Johnny Quest, Scooby-Doo, Smurfs, Snorks, Flintstones, Jetsons, Captain Caveman, Wacky Races etc... The only non-hanna barbera cartoons I can think of is Looney tunes and Tom n Jerry. Eventually when CN got its original line up of cartoons, they acquired a second channel Boomerang to play all the classic cartoons of the past.

I have a story about Alex Toth: My uncle worked with his son. During the last years of his life, Alex was a recluse. He did not talk to his family, friends, or just about anyone. He would do nothing but draw all day every day. After he passed, his son could not bring himself to throw all of his work away. He decided to give them out to everyone at the office who wanted one. My uncle got five of his pieces. He gave one to me, my sister, and my cousins for Christmas one year. I still have it hung up in my room. When I was younger, I would brag about having it. Now that I am older, I keep it as a reminder to not let my work distract me from what is really important. Its bittersweet, really.

"Wacky Races" was inspired by "The Great Race", which was in turn inspired by a real-world race from New York to Paris that took place in 1908. The Great Leslie's car was based on the winner of the race, a Thomas Flyer. The Thomas Flyer and the massive trophy are both on display at the Harrah Collection in Reno. Being from western Nevada myself, I've seen it in person many times. It's pretty amazing that this old car and the other participants, with their unreliable engine, wooden construction, skinny tires, and practically non-existent suspension made it across two-thirds of the planet''s circumference (they went the long way, not across the Atlantic) considering how terrible roads were at that time. They were literally blazing new trails in many places. The last car crossed the finish line after 169 days. 110 years later, it remains the longest motorsports event ever in terms of duration.

I used to watch many of those Hanna-Barbarra (forgive my spelling) on Cartoon Network for years when I was very little until the late 90s when Ed, Edd, Eddy, and all those new cartoons came out around that time including Animaniacs on WB. I loved Space Ghost as a kid along with Birdman and Flintstones and Jetsons and I could go on I still remember when The New Adventures of Johnny Quest came out on Cartoon Network, Butch. Me and you seem to share similar cartoons growing up. I was a kid in the 90s. Now I'm 30 years old. Nothing beats these old classics. I'm not knocking the cartoons that came after them.
