Before I start cooking, I get a nice hot soapy sink of water ready, and I wash dishes as I dirty them. When food is cooking, I wash down the fridge or the front of the stove, sharpen my knives. I lay foil on the bottom of my oven, been doing that for years. My kitchen is pretty immaculate lol. My philosophy is to see a mess, clean a mess. Tip #1 - Don’t neglect the little things (e.g., toothbrush holder). Trick - every day, take a few extra minutes and clean just a few of the smaller things Tip #2 - Use an oven liner (non-stick reusable oven liner) Tip #3 - Skip mopping (spreads dirt around). Instead use a steam cleaner instead (swiffer for daily use) Tip #4 - Clean windows with homemade cleaner made of 1 tsp of baking soda and vinegar (not sure i got the formula on this one) Tip #5 - Tackle simple tasks quickly and frequently - do small things as they are needed, daily, instead of letting things pile up and doing larger cleaning events every week Tip #6 - Use cleaning checklists Tip #7 - lists by time etc. Tip #8 - work top to bottom Tip #9 - schedule cleaning time into your week instead of trying to squeeze it in here and there, minimize distractions Tip #10 - have a cleaning caddy to make an easy grab - Tip #11 - simplify your supplies, reduce specialty cleaners: light duty evaporation cleaner for glass, heavy duty cleaner for grease, abrasive cleaner Tip #12 - invest in your tools

Another tip I learned while cleaning houses, hand washing floors is better for: 1) really getting any trouble spots clean (you can feel it with your wash rag in your hand, but not with a mop) and 2) cutting drying time (mopping a floor adds far more water to your surface, it's weird how big a difference it can make).

My mom used to be a professional cleaner. Her #1 tip is to wipe down your shower/bath immediately after you've done using it. That way any residue form products used (shampoos, soaps) don't get a chance to dry in to the tile and you avoid water stains on your shower doors. So simply use a squeegee or a towel to wipe down your bathroom after every shower/bath. It makes it so much easier to clean.

The best piece of cleaning advice I ever received is not to feel guilty for accepting or hiring help when you need it. Whether you’re a new mom or a full time working woman… Say yes when your mother in law offers to do the dishes. Accept when your sister offers to cook dinner. When your husbands Aunt asks if she can help…find her a chore. And, if you have the financial means, hire the extra help when you need it. As a mom and full time working, co-owner of a business with my husband, it took me forever to admit that I needed help and even hiring someone to come in once a week and pick up the slack has made a huge difference in my stress level and therefore, in my interactions with my family.

Something I have been working on for years is decluttering. We have a large family. One day when speaking to my little one the thought came to me when speaking about cleaning...”If you have too many things to clean up off your floor you have too many things.” If a room feels overwhelming and you feel like you can’t get it clean it enough you just have plain too much to care for. I love playing the minimalism game. For each day of the month you get rid of that many items. Ex. September 21st you get rid of 21 items. September 22nd you get rid of 22 items etc. I will dig and search and get my kids involved.

Having a checklist is a great tip that I plan on using, it's so easy to forget to clean small areas because I'm too focused on the big picture. Also not cleaning the walls unless I noticed dirt is something I recently stopped doing and began dusting/mopping the walls often. I'm currently studying to work in CSI and the words of one of my professors has been sticking with me: people don't clean their walls! Which is very true and it makes a huge difference in brightening up the home.

@Ruth Steiner I have a Neato D7 and it is lightyears ahead of the roombas I've dealt with. It is incredibly thorough, not very redundant in terms of what path it takes, and only occasionally gets stuck. Once you know it will get stick on something, you can add a "no-go" line to the map - I've blocked off a high pile rug, for example. I have shelves it goes under, plants it goes around, stairs it avoids falling down...this thing is incredible. I can even tell it to clean the dining room and it will navigate through the kitchen and entry hall and go do that room and come back and dock itself. It has all 3 floors of the house mapped out, and it shows you exactly where it cleaned every time you run it. It has a "delicate" mode, too, in case you really want to make sure it doesn't push anything around. Also, it will go dock itself if it gets low on power and go finish up when it recharges enough. I try to just split up the area into multiple sections if I notice it having to do that so my kids don't get startled by the vacuum suddenly turning on in the basement.

My floor plan is open, and I went through 3 roombas in 2 months. When it worked, it was ahhhmayyyzing, but that was rare. It went in circles, got stuck, just glitched out constantly. My first one lasted just long enough to map, then konked out (3 or 4 days). Second one was 2 weeks, third one lasted a month. The company wanted to send me parts to fix it myself after owning it 3 days. Nah, not my problem. I thought I got a lemon. Nope, roombas are all lemons. Now I'm using a shark robot that has a few problems, but it's half the price of a roomba, and it at least works. I'll get another roomba when they stop glitching, and not every review is a one. I'll buy a brava, too, once the reviews improve for that robot as well. Disappointing, for sure.

@@superfund42 thank you for this. I'm going to research yours. I loved being able to program my roomba to clean, or send it out when a mess was made, but it glitched to the point of going in circles, not finding home, and cleaning only one area over and over, among many many other things.

As a professional cleaner- I owned a house cleaning/window cleaning business for over a decade before buying a truck mounted steam cleaning company (carpet/tile/upholstery steam cleaning)- go room by room. Grab your cleaning caddy and focus on one room at a time. Do all the dusting, surface cleaning, and floors room by room instead of whole house dusting then whole house surfaces and floors etc. you spend much less time walking back and fourth across the house starting with one room and getting all the cleaning done then on to the next and next. It also helps keep you focused on what you’re doing so you don’t forget things. And put your checklist with your caddy! Check things off as you go until you get into the routine. I have been cleaning professionally for several years, and my best tips are to use Norwex descaler on shower doors with a magic eraser, use Norwex laundry soap mixed with water for an all purpose cleaner in bathrooms, kitchens and on floors, with a good quality microfiber mop pad, and for fellow professional cleaners, the best “caddy” for your supplies is a rolling craft cart sold at Hobby Lobby. It has compartments and pockets that are perfect for keeping all your supplies.

Great video! Just my two cents worth- if you read your oven manual- some have a lower heating element under the solid bottom and state “do not use” an oven liner. I’d suggest everyone check first. Apparently it can cause heating issues, burning and uneven cooking.

I used to be a tidier. Now that I have five kids - two in school full time, one in school part time, and toddler twins - and a busy volunteer schedule, I genuinely don’t have that time and energy every day. You’ll hear those “This only takes a minute. Five minutes. Ten minutes.” Those minutes add up to hours a day I don’t have. So now I do the bare minimum much of the time and deep clean when I have a large chunk of time when my husband is home.
@theresabrown12723 жыл бұрын
Wow! I’m wondering how you have the time or energy to do a lot of volunteer work when you have 5 children.. 2 of them being toddlers ? Can’t imagine doing any volunteer work with 5 kids. Kudos to you ❤️

Maybe consider reduced volunteering for this season of life? I also love to be involved in helping others, but right now I'm focusing on meeting the needs the people I am wholly responsible for, and spending less time and energy on those I am less accountable for.
@khaoylel3 жыл бұрын
@@TheDeepRedCharlie I’m sure this was meant kindly, but the assumption that the needs of those I’m wholly accountable for aren’t being met because of my work is incorrect. I was responding to the question of whether I’m a tidy-as-you-go person or one who works in large chunks, and I gave the reason for my being the latter. I’m deeply dedicated to the needs of my family, and if the laundry gets done in 6 loads on a Saturday rather than one load a day, or I give the counters a cursory wipe daily and do a deep scrub one night a week, they’re not suffering. We’re very happy.

This is a late comment, but I can see why you habits had to change. My sister said saving up for a Roomba (don’t know if she got that brand) really took the stress from her, her husband and their children. Also having other little tricks really helped her but let’s be honest, mess will happen with kids and it is more important to enjoy your time with them then having a house that is 100% clean the whole day. (I personally will tidy up toys random set times of the day rather then continuously when I look after children)

The most satisfying cleaning experience ever, and the easiest success I ever had was to clean my oven racks this way. Run the bath water till it’s at its hottest. Lay a towel in the tub to protect it from scratching. Put the racks in and fill the tub with the hottest water. Sprinkle in some dishwasher powdered soap. I used Finish brand. Leave for a few hours. Even the little creases where the wires intersect are clean with barely any scrubbing. Everything basically falls off and the racks are like new. I’ve never seen my oven racks look this perfect since we bought the oven.

I cleaned houses in California, mostly in La Jolla and Bonita while going to college. It was one of the best jobs I've ever had. 1. Don't forget to disinfect after you clean. 2. Wear gloves. 3. Clean things that are germy (like the outside of the toilet and toilet seat) with a germ killing cleaner and paper towels. Don't use cleaning cloths. 4. Don't forget to clean the trash cans. 5. move the furniture slightly when vacuuming so you can get that ring of dirt that goes around the legs 6. if you have pets (I do) remember that you may not be able to smell them, but other people can. Air out your house frequently. 7. When you vacuum, also vacuum into closets as much as you can. 8. Don't forget to clean your vacuum inside and out, including the wheels. 9. If the front door isn't clean, the house isn't clean. 10. Prioritize. I say this as a former housekeeper, know what is important and do that first while your energy is high. 11. Don't forget door jambs and cobwebs. Takes no time, makes a huge difference. 12, A messy house that is clean will never look clean. Tidy as you go if you need to, but clear those surfaces and put things away. Besides, what kind of dusting are you doing when everything is cluttered? A lousy job, to be honest. Clear the surface first.
@crimsoncarnage54353 жыл бұрын
Also a simple furniture polish not only adds a shine to your work, but helps with dust and dirt build up by encouraging it not to stick to furniture and surfaces as much. So simple but it cuts the amount of dust that shows up on my coffee table, entertainment unit etc in half over a few days. I even use it on my dash In my car! I highly recommend trying it out. Beware of using on floors though as it can make surfaces more slippery and could be a hazard underfoot.

I was so proud of myself because I implement quite a few of these cleaning hacks. The first one with the toothbrush is so true. My teenager is responsible for “cleaning” her own bathroom. One day I decided to give it a deep clean and when I saw her electric toothbrush and water pic, I almost threw up. I could not believe how disgusting it was. The water had a pink film in the container and the toothbrush holder was just engulfed in nastiness. Needless to say, we had a little chat and I pointed out how she puts these things in her mouth daily. As I say in my house, “Does it pass the cootie test?” If not, start scrubbing! I use the product "Whip IT" for almost every cleaning chore I have. You mix it up, it's totally plant based and I have used it almost exclusively for 3 years. I spot laundry with it, my husband uses it on his car and motorcycle, I use it for general cleaning and heavy duty cleaning (mix stronger) Two 32 oz bottles have lasted 3 years. I do use antiseptic cleaner in the bathroom, but you can make this cleaner antiseptic also by adding 1 cup of at least 70% alcohol to it. I use bleach water on my floors because I have dogs and they do not watch what they walk through and I have great grand babies that crawl on my floors and then lightly rinse them. I use finger which I will now add corn starch to for my windows. I love your channel. Keep up the good work.

U know, I wondered about that? Been a cleaner for over 45yrs and I'm always game to try new tricks. My go to, is a half and half solution of isopropyl/rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle. The other thing I have done is identify my, and my husband's, clutter behaviors. (This is an ongoing process). I noticed he always has a pile of clothing at the foot of the bed on his side. It made me crazy bc he have a hamper in the bathroom. I bought a bin with side handles and slid it under the bed so now he has a personal "quick" hamper that is hidden. He knows that either that he has to deliver that when laundry happens or if it gets full he has to dump it into the real hamper. Either way, there is no more pile, and it is neatly tucked away out of sight under the bed like a little drawer. He adapted to it immediately bc it fit his pattern. Also, if I fold his clothing when he isn't home, no longer put it neatly in a laundry basket. I found that he just lived out of the basket. Now I fold everything and pile it into categories (tshirs, underwear etc) and leave it in neat stacks on his side of the bed...in his way. He knows he can't just put it on the floor, so it forces him to put it all away before he can lay down. Basically I put things in his way so he has to use/do them. It seems to work as a concept.
@---nj7hl3 жыл бұрын
I like your first tip. When I wash I tell my son, he better hang his tshirts bcuz if I see them on the floor he will wash his own clothes himself. Anyways, I'm a single mom and every minute counts in this household. I dont have time to fold. I just fold longway the tshirts and he hangs them. Same goes for shorts and jeans. For socks and underwear, he has 2 locker bins I got at DT and they are labeled. Has worked wonderfully. No more folding undies nor socks. Another tip: I try to buy just black socks. If one gets lost, no more concerns about looking at its matching sock in the morning school rush hour. They are all the same color!
