Now that is a level of discipline and loyalty that is admirable. A true gentleman and a scholar. I wonder if working for the new money is like having to work for retail.

I've worked for reasonably 'old' money, and having their new money adult children on the premises is indeed like retail- it's in how the staff is treated.

This job (way of life) is for those who value integrity within themselves, who are very comfortable in this kind of lifestyle, who want to explore it further, and of those who seek these kinds of people. Along with this kind of training, and your own confidence in self, is where you find your place. Experience will only make you all the more better as only experience can find the little things training cannot teach, but this is because lifestyles you will be serving differ and each one is unique. What George said about butlers seeing and hearing, but not saying? This is a result of that integrity. It is what people look for in a well self groomed person. Well trained high-end butler's make $70k to approaching six figures per year. It is a career.

It's been a dream of mine to become a butler, but I don't have the financial capabilities to fulfilling that dream of mine, there's a Butler University I think is in the Netherlands, and there's one in New York, my only option of getting in the serving/hospitality business is going into the house cleaning for a nice/luxury hotel or a personal house cleaner.

Good news! There's now two different butler schools online, and they're significantly cheaper. One is based in South Africa, the other in Belgium. I haven't looked at the South African one, but the Belgian school is ~$1k total for all 12 courses with lifetime access, and then you have the option of going to the actual physical estate in Belgium for a two-week boot camp to get certified. I've dreamed of buttling ever since I saw that Great Big Story video on one of the butler academies, but, like you, can't justify coughing up 16k for something that's not guaranteed to pan out for me. Now I'm seriously considering doing the online portion of the Belgium school and seeing if I can get me foot in the door as a butler that way, without actually going for the full certification. If not, I can probably transfer those skills to something else- maybe PAing for a posthouse and working my way up to editor. Either way, my film degree cost probably three or four times what online butler school does.

@@youlleatamuffinandlikeit4596 very interesting thank you for the information, I have one problem though. How will butler school work online, it seems to me that butlering is a very hands on physical job, how will it work being taught online?
@youlleatamuffinandlikeit4596 Жыл бұрын
@@GreenArrow0 The online stuff is all theory, and most if not all of the physical stuff you can practice at home- carrying trays, dressing tables, making and dressing down beds, etc.

What I hate is the “new money” “old money” stereotypes. There are plenty of people, new money, who don’t flaunt their wealth and just want a bit of help to make their life a little less stressful and routine. And I’ve seen tons of “old money” who spend like there’s no tomorrow. That’s one reason so many estates are abandoned in Europe. They got daddy’s money but didn’t know how to make more and had to marry into “new money” from places like America who got rich off of oil, and many still lost the estate.

Butler schools are rare but hospitality schools are all over the world. That schooling plus work experience in a fine hotel can lead to getting a good job in a wealthy private home.

Where do you live? As the world overall gains in wealth (even the poor have cell phones, something the middle class barely had 40 years ago), more and more butler schools are accessible.

It really depends on the principal. You won't be putting on their underwear or socks, but you may help zip/unzip or button/unbutton a lady's dress or hold a coat or jacket for the gentleman, possibly tying their ties.

I believe it's to teach them how to iron delicate fabrics. If they stay too long in one spot it could burn or leave a mark. Better to ruin a newspaper than expensive fabric.
