Butlins Holiday Camps 1967 1968

Blimey I remember much of this - I went there in 1967 and again in 1969 with my mum, dad and two brothers. Very happy memories of a time now long gone by.

I was there in 67 as a dancer on the gaiety theatre and a part time redcoat, I signed so many autographs.loved every minute, would love to see any photos from that time x my maiden name was Holmes

1967, the year I was there, I'd have been about 7. It was Filey I went to but all the camps must have been fairly similar, I remember those iconic coloured lanterns and other stuff, at that time we couldn't wait to grow up..........and now being older and wiser, I realise they were the best days of my life, shame we can't go back - thanks for the memories

That old Skegness boating lake at 9:15 and 16:00, I have a video of us going around on the boats on there- albeit a quarter of a century after this was filmed. Most of it's been filled in now, though there's still a bit left that's there for ducks. Also got videos of us on the vintage cars at 12:35, they lasted until the early-mid 90s as well. Those old monorail trains with no doors or windows were still in use when I first went in 1992 (got a video of us riding in them too- and me, as astrugglign 6 year old, nearly falling out the window... makes you wonder how they stayed in use for so long when they weren't really that safe!), they were replaced with properly enclosed ones the following year (got videos of us in that too!). Also you can see the old self catering chalets on the opposite side of the road at 9:10, we stayed in them the first few times we went! Were demolished around 1996-ish sadly and the caravan park moved over there.

I remember a lot of this I was there. I remember the Monorail, and the chair lifts, vintage cars, and the train, and the horse rides. I was between 5 and 7. We went many times over those years.

I went to Butlins in Clacton and Bognor [also the hotel in Cliftonville] in the 60s as a young child with my [now sadly late] parents. I also went to Skegness, Bognor [again] and Pwhelli as a teen in the 70s. I feel tearful watching these realising that all those who were little kids then will all, like me, be old now and all the adults in the film will now be dead.

would love to go back in time..to experience Butlins in the 60s...I didn't experience it until 84 as a 12 yr old..then 10 yrs later..true to my heart...at 22 i worked at Pwllheli Butlins...happiest days...dream come true...❤✌Butlins forever..

My parent`s were staff at Skegness during this time, totally conceived there, remember the stories of them distilling hooch from the peach syrup lol, good times i bet

I don't think Butlin's Bognor today has as much for older children and teens as it used to. It now seems to cater mostly for families with younger children. I haven't been, but I looked into it. I know they have a go-kart track, which seems great, but in those days they had: tennis, table tennis, snooker/billiards, putting, darts, the skating rink (as shown), Scalextric racing (a big fashion in the late 60s), model building and many other things I can't think of at the moment. There was always something to do and a lot of it was included in the price of the holiday.

Our family was at Bognor camp in summer 1968, and for several other years, and at Clacton in the early 1970s. It's a shame the old style of design went in favour of everything looking the same everywhere. Those were very happy childhood memories.

At 7:42 I can see the children's playground (Bognor) my dad used to take me too after breakfast in the background, and the Giant I used to play on. I still have an old photo my dad took of me standing on the giant's foot.
