Dude, I loved "Senator of Gravity"... As an older guy only started learning 3years ago, two of the worst habits I developed right away were going down too far (butt on the ice almost) and allowing my shoulders to fall forward when I went down. When I saw a replay, I laughed because it looked like I was falling into the ice! Glad you mentioned those in this video, it's a big part of developing strong form and good position!

I love the feed back! Balance is absolutely the most important part of a butterfly save and slide. Thanks for watching!

Do you have any vids on proper positioning while on goal posts for squirt/mite level ? I know it's a simplistic concept however I see squirt and mite level goalies struggle with this
@thementalgoalie3 жыл бұрын
So true, younger goalies have a very hard time lining up on their posts and finding that proper angle/positioning. I currently don't have a video specific to that, but if I can put something educational together I will! In the meantime, really focus on helping the younger goalie get his/her skate blade up against the post and bringing their far pad back to the goalline, so they are lateral on the line. As the puck moves higher, use the post like a hinge to rotate out and then cut forward. Be wary using the shuffle off the post as at that age, it can throw them out of position and too far ahead of the puck!

@@michaelchorney3793 Love to see the will to get better at any age! If I can give you any basic advice, it's to get your chest square to puck at all times. This is 90% of goaltending: positioning!

@@thementalgoalie ok cool how about. My stance how far do I need my legs apart
@thementalgoalie3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelchorney3793 A good rule of thumb is just over a shoulder width apart and work on extending your hands out over your knees with your elbows loose.

Why do goalies spin rather than slide? trying to coach a new goalie
@thementalgoalie2 жыл бұрын
Have them point their lead leg out "point the toe where you want to go" is the rhyme I like to use. Make sure they get high leverage with their push leg as well! Bring the toe right to the knee
