I used to live out in the country and we did not have people panhandling for money. When I moved to the city for college I got to experience seeing this and at first did not know how to properly handle this.
My friend Brian taught me a lesson in compassion and it really stuck with me.
I wanted to share a little story and maybe it will have a positive effect.

You had a buddy named Butthead. 😆 He was kind for giving. I appreciate the begging man for being honest, too, about his needs. He's not a Butthead anymore- but a good hearted Brian. 😁👏💯

Yes, I have a buddy named Butthead. I don't really call him that, but that is a nickname he picked up in college. I like the way he just asked what the guy needed and then said, ok lets go get it. That's a good way to go about doing it and it has an immediate impact. Yeah, Brian is a good man😀

I've never met a homeless person that didn't enjoy something to eat or drink . Great story about Brian

It's nice what Brian did and certainly a great way to be charitable😀 Feeding those in need is a little something a lot of us can manage to do. There is just a stigma associated with the homeless that shies people away from interacting with them.

Most people don’t realise that they could easily become homeless. Anyone can become homeless in a perfect storm of bad events.

That is true! A lot of us have had a support system growing up where that would not have been likely so we don't know any differently. What my friend did at the time was very compassionate and a great solution, I thought. It has stuck with me all these years.

Interesting story, Age. I hope one day there will be a real solution for these circumstances, I hate seeing people struggle. Cheers. 👍

Thanks, Daryl😁 I don't know what the solution is. Sometimes people make the wrong choices in life. Sometimes people are given a raw deal in life too. It can be hard to know which is which. I do know that feeding a person is being compassionate.

Thanks for sharing Age., always treat people with respect., you don't know their path, or why they are in life where they are.., next to that, if one day they outgrow you on their path in life., you might just receive help to once needed. Have a great day Age!

It takes courage to help strangers. Drug addicts moved in behind the wall of my girlfriend's rented apartment. They started stealing and messing up right away. Took my bike to their apartment but other neighbors saw it so returned my bike. The police visited the place, but there are no convictions for such crimes. Then they stole my girlfriend's bike when she forgot to lock it for an hour. It was found the next day in the hospital yard. Then they threw garbage from the balcony into the downstairs neighbor's yard. They steal clothes from drying rooms. One of them collects garbage and makes a mess. Of course, they have money to buy alcohol and drugs. Those people are the ones I can't help. That's a social welfare issue. Have caused a feeling of insecurity and stress in the neighbors.
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 4 күн бұрын
That sounds like a really tough situation to deal with! Stealing clothes from the drying rooms is really bad and terrible that you have to worry for your own clothes as well! Hopefully, the drug addicts move to a place where they can be better taken care of and not continue to cause a disturbance for you and your girlfriend.

@@agesadventures Yes, they will soon have to move out. It's been quite a long time, about two months, since they've been bothering people constantly. Someone had sabotaged the lock of their apartment. They couldn't get into the apartment. They had to call a locksmith. They had to be outside for half a day before the locksmith came and could drill the lock open and replace it with a new lock. Karma hit them 😅

This is what I do when they ask for money. I ask what they want the money for, they say food, I say ok, lets go inside and I'll buy you a pizza burger and chocolate milk. It didn't go to drugs or booze, and hopefully, a full belly would calm them down. Sometimes, the Lord is testing you.

I have helped a few folks over the years but most just want the money and I won't give it to them. A guy once came up to Delmar and me saying he was hungry and we both said we'd take him to get some food but he said he would get it himself if we'd just give him the money. So you can't trust too many of them. it was a good thing your buddy did though.
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 6 күн бұрын
Good on you for helping out those folks! That's really suspicious when someone comes up and says they are hungry and then they turn down the offer for a meal and want the cash instead. I'd venture to say that he was not going to spend that money on food. Yeah, I'm just amazed at a young age my buddy was already thinking and doing something like that.

I was gonna ask why his name is Butthead but then you said why. I understand Brian’s intent but I personally never give money to panhandlers. It just keeps them out there. When they get interviewed they even say they stay out there from handouts. Also, every one of them does bad things, every one. There are also people that don’t want to give money but feel that if they don’t they are going to get hurt or their car will get damaged. Sometimes your good heart is actually hurting people that you are trying to help. I think helping them is to not give them anything. Make it harder for them to stay out there on the street and want to get help.
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 8 күн бұрын
What about given them food and drink? No money was given to the person. They drank the juice right outside as we were there. Where you are, do the people know where to go for help? I'm just curious because I don't know how all that works. Heck, if I ended up on the street here for some reason, I'm not sure I'd know where to go. Certainly, in this case, no money changed hands. I hear what you are saying as well! It's just a matter of directing them to the necessary assistance that they need. It is also much harder here, in Canada, for them to get money off people because less and less people carry any cash on them. I certainly don't carry any.
@34outdoor
@34outdoor 8 күн бұрын
Not EVERYONE in this situation does bad things.., that's the dumbest thing to say, and will create an image for others to., who are dumb enough to believe you, thinking you are right. If they ask for money, thay aren't robbing people for it are they now? or stealing from cars homes and shops are they?? leave the judgement to God, and your life will be easier. it is a prejudice to say this.., you don't know their reasons, or how far their solution might be, or what they do in their lives, cause you choose to look the other way after hearing some fool say the things you repeat now. It's almost like saying Canadians all say eh and aboot.... if you know what i mean....... WE have a word for this = racist. you simply cannot know ALL these people., and that is where i rest my case.
@agesadventures
@agesadventures 8 күн бұрын
@@34outdoor Hey, Your comment is a bit of a strong response to Craig’s comment. You throw around the word racist. Please DO NOT do that! That is not fair. That is not the definition of this word and it is rude and very disrespectful to associate it with this conversation. Craig stated his opinion based on his many years of service to the people and many interactions with panhandlers and homeless people as part of his duties. He is also based in a city where there may be a huge problem. I asked Craig some questions because I wanted to start a conversation and I was honestly curious about his thoughts on this. Your response will shut down that conversation. I appreciate that you are a subscriber to the channel and you have a strong opinion on this subject, however, to create a meaningful dialogue it does no good to attack someone’s character. That will shut down meaningful conversation. You judged Craig in your comment without knowing his personal experience. I ask you to step back and consider that he may have seen what you have not. Regards, Age
