You are right that you lucked out with the small amount of trash on your property. Look at what the Hollars had to deal with on their land. Still no one wants to have to clean up after someone else. Using the outbuilding for a brooder is a great idea. Your property is coming along nicely with all your hard work and vision.

We bought ugly and lived in a habitable tiny apartment over the garage for 16 months while gutting and rehabing the main house. At times it was hard but I would remind myself we had a roof over our heads and food on our table. Now we’re living in the house and starting on the “other” projects, one step at a time. Blessings.

We started out in a rundown singlewide mobile home on a 1/4 acre in WA. We fixed it up, started raising livestock and ended up selling for a huge profit. We moved across the country and bought an Amish property on 26 acres in Northeastern KY! Beautiful journey you've had!

Yes I can totally relate about the trash. We just acquired or first piece of property that we want to turn into a homestead. The gentleman we purchased from was an older widow that just couldn't manage the property anymore (just under 60acres 😱) he not only left a TON of junk behind but we are finding literal trash piles as we venture the property and try and clear it up. It's been a "fun" time to say the least

You are not kidding. My husband and I just started up our farm in the last year (and our KZbin channel last week), and we have so much trash from the previous owners! I've been debating making a whole video dedicated to just sharing the reality of buying a property. Sometimes trash is there and someone has to deal with it. I love what you all are doing with your new place! I hope you can find some simple and easy solutions for what you all want to fix. ✨

We had TWELVE dumptrucks full of trash on our new property removed - trash, downed trees, more trash and voila - a lovely forest! In less than a month, the reason most people would not consider this gorgeous, 22 acre property with the wrap around porch was the lack of care of the forest. Our work is not only enhancing our lives, but increasing the value of this investment.

Our homestead was an ugly mess when we bought it. We hauled off so much trash! The weeds on the property were taller than my 6'3" husband! And oh my the goatheads! We had to remove nasty fencing, fence a lot of the property. It was so worth it. People cannot believe the low, low price we paid for our property when we bought it. The awesome part is it really made it easier to make it ours.

I get the la d fill cost. We bought ugly one year ago exactly. It had about 70 years of neglect but we are making progress! And a lot of our trash is going to the scrap yard instead of the dump. I don't think there was always a landfill in this area because virtually all farm properties around here have pretty hefty junk piles....
@u.p.northhomestead484 Жыл бұрын
@@gingerbandy792 There wasnt much in the line of old farm equipment or any real scrap metal here. A few burnt barns,tons of asphalt roofing and enough old tires to repair potholes in the state for yrs. Seems like companies would take or even buy for asphalt or even retreading tires but nope... Still have a few thousand tires,3$ per to get rid of... Gotta love it,lol
@theIAMofME Жыл бұрын
@@gingerbandy792 Yeah, that's what I was thinking. We have been so spoiled with garbage pickup and $35 yearly landfill fees if you need to haul something off. I guess most deposited their trash in the ground. Kinda sad that one day we may be forced to go back to that.

This resonates so perfectly with me right now, I just closed on my property here in Southern Colorado and it is exactly what you just talked about. It is going to be one hell of a cleaning and demo project but the price was what I could afford. To be honest I am a bit overwhelmed but I figure I just need to focus on one small project at a time because the totality is just to much to try and tackle all at once.
