I got divorced when I started collecting silver. That was 12 years ago. I have managed to collect over 3000 oz since then. The ex was into buying furniture, cars nic nac stuff etc. Wonder how that's going to work out for her....Sorry, I know that was a left field comment... ;-)

Concur. In my family, we don't keep our money in either banks or bonds. If silver/gold at least keep up with inflation, then why would you ever take a negative yielding bond or anything paying less than 3% per year (that's the stupid gov calculation of cpi). You do have to hold long in some date ranges for it to work, but only keep the short term working capital around in cash, say 1 years expenses or 10-20k around for emergencies. The rest gets stored in real money.

I wanted to share my junk silver story...... I saw an ad on Craigslist where a small time retail dealer was selling some junk silver for spot price (he probably was short on cash). He had a bunch of silver quarters that I was interested in and he said I could look through the pile and pick out any ones I wanted.So I was picking out a lot of shiny ones that were mostly 1963 or 1964 dated because I knew they had more silver content than the older, more worn quarters. One of the shiny ones I picked out was a 1930 something date but I didn't look at it too closely because I didn't want to draw too much attention to it. When I got home I saw that it was an uncirculated 1937s which I promptly put on Ebay and it sold for over $50. !! You should have seen that poor dealer's face when I told him about my lucky find and how much I sold it for on Ebay !

Great video Speg. I love the constitutional silver. Being a stacker, I usually turn away from the old Barbers and SLQ because of the wear. I know they have a better premiums on them usually and it's not to say I don't have any. Just if given the choice of a roll of Barber dimes and Roosevelt dimes, I'd take the Rosies (assuming the Barbers were the normal wore down ones). However, chances are I could sell the roll of Barbers for more but again right now, I'm trying to get as much silver for as low cost as I can...stackin' hard 😀 Thanks again Speg...great discussion!

I’d like to hear others opinions on a question I have. Say there is an economic collapse, do you really think you can walk into your local grocery store & trade a few mercury dimes for food? I have silver & I’ve never been able to grasp the concept of bartering with precious metals for tangible goods in the event of a collapse. How will that work? Will some govt official have to make a declaration or will the public have to agree that pm’s can be used? Also, if the economy does take a dump & silver prices go up enough to sell, what are you going to sell your silver for, a failing currency? Just some thoughts.
@Spegtacular
@Spegtacular 5 жыл бұрын
So Martin, I'm not sure if you wanted me to answer this or not. Silver and gold are money and have been for thousands of years. They're precious to people. Now, an economic collapse doesn't effect only the USA which may cause you to think "why would it matter" but it's a global problem because many countries are seriously tied to one another. If the dollar fails then it will be like a domino effect. What will be valuable if that happens? Likely, the same thing that has always been valuable. Hopefully others can chime in.

In Venezuela an ounce of silver is worth 4 million dollars. People sell there silver to a shop. The shop credits their account. Then they go and buy groceries. No wheel barrow needed. 4 million sounds like alot of money but it will buy about $18 worth of food.
@justinsnider9772
@justinsnider9772 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly if there is a major "collapse" like a lot of people think then gold and silver will be the least of your worries. Food and water and weapons will be what people would barter with in an all out collapse. Now I don't believe we will ever have a situation like that but you never know. I buy silver and gold more as a hedge to my other paper investments due to the inevitable inflation that is coming from current monetary policies. And I also treat it as a hobby just collecting for fun. Hopefully one day my grand kids can benefit greatly from my hobby when I'm gone. Ill probably never sell any of my silver or gold unless things got really bad.

That 1916 barber dime was obviously cleaned. No question about it. But it was clean probably along time ago and then naturally toned after the cleaning. It’s probably only a VG grade but cleaned 50 years ago

I think you get a better bang for your buck collecting pure silver bullion coins or bar. Another Overtaxed Payer has a video that looks at the cost per ounce. Junk silver used to be good at one point in time when you could find some silver coins in bank rolls. Now you have to primarily get junk silver from coin shops or order bags of junk silver from the US mint. These options can be quite pricey. These coins are also not .999 or .9999. They are no doubt silver but unless you are familiar with silver content in US coins, it is not the best option if you are looking at quantity, quality and price when stacking silver.

Don't know if anyone knows how things are really going to shake out with silver.in the future. So what I have been trying to do is stack a 1/4 in 10 oz bars, 1/4 rounds, 1/4 bullion coins and 1/4 junk silver. Is there anything else I might be missing? It could just be when the time comes silver is silver. It does make it a little more interesting doing it this way though.

There's also a possibility of finding a key date. Someone who found a 1916 quarter paid $3 for it but it's worth $800-$1000 in poor condition. Btw the 1916 had a worn off date, BUT to the trained eye, there are tell-tale design features that are different between the 1916-Type 1 and 1917-Type 1.
@Spegtacular
@Spegtacular 5 жыл бұрын
Even though there’s some coins that have “features” or design traits specific to a certain coin’s year, if the coin has a worn off date, it’s worth next to nothing. Look on EBay at 1916 quarters that have the date worn off. They have a hard time selling.

Thanks for another great video. There was actually one cleaned coin I bought on one occasion that just by getting it slabbed by pcgs I was able to sell it for 140$ more than what I initially paid. I believe it was 1900-S morgan in Genuine Unc -Cleaned. Some times I will do stuff like that if I know I can flip Morgans. It takes a lot of time searching to find good deals like that though.

Additionally, This video makes me want to trade out some of my .999 for 90%. The good thing is I do have a roll of Silver eagles that I bought right at spot when they were 14-16 each using Ownx.com. I could easily resell them for 22-24$ ea. There is an Army recruiter locally who will buy off me if I ever want to sell. The best part about that is I don't have to worry about eBay and fees and don't have to sell to a shop and lose money.

They arent making anymore of it, so fixed supply+ increase in demand=higher prices,

All junk silver I have seen locally are very worn and dates completely worn off. How do I know what s a fair price
@Spegtacular
@Spegtacular 5 жыл бұрын
Well, usually a shop doesn't charge you much more than a $1 or so max over spot for junk silver. $1.40 face value of junk silver is approximately one ounce of actual silver by weight. So if you figure silver is at XXX price per ounce today, then you wouldn't want to go much over $1 over that per ounce of junk silver.

Is there a formula? For example if I buy 5 dollars in dimes.....what would be a fair price if spot is at $18
@Spegtacular
@Spegtacular 5 жыл бұрын
There really isn't a formula because everybody sells theirs as different prices. I'm just not in the business of buying junk for more than one dollar an ounce over spot. You can use the coin calculator on coinflation.com and that should help you see easily what the ounces are and how much $ worth of silver is in x amount of junk silver.

For the price of a couple of ASEs, you could buy a few shares of a low price miner,trading at 1 to $3 a share. Trade these for some profits,DO NOT TRADE YOUR GOLD. EXK, which trades about $2.50, was up 7.5% one day this week, up about 15 cents in a day. I keep a little portfolio of 7 of them. All are rallying ,along with gold and silver. Their Tech charts are good. SSRM has a great chart, with a huge cup, followed by a nice handle. Trades in the $15 area. I would not think of trading the coins. WHEATON, WPM gets $27 million cash flow per employee!
