Great video. Very helpful. I was just missing one important fact: As of my understanding only the FX30 has the option to output RAW (e.g. ProResRAW, so basically 4:4:4 16bit) in combination with the popular Atomos Ninja V. That might be a real game changer if you shoot Greenscreen stuff. That is the the big question for me right now. A7IV (full frame and better overall performance) vs FX30 with 4k@120 and Raw option... Tough question, but your video definitely helped!!!

Kinda difficult choice. I bought an ZV-E10 some months ago and am not sure which of the two (a7iv or fx30) would suit my needs better in the future as my next camera. I'm a hobby-photographer who moved from Canon to Sony. The EOS RP was my main-photography cam for almost 4 years. But everyone and everything pointed me in the direcion of Sony and friends of mine went for Sony as well. I want to do more with videography and learn the skillsset of it. The a7IV is 400euro's more than the Fx30 in my country. And that is without lenses itself included. I tried asking in my local big-camerashop and the personell all couldn't give me a straight answer but gave their own prefferences. One says I shouldn't do both of them and go for ZV-E1. The other says I shouldn't go for Sony and go for Panasonic S5IIXm other said I should go for the a7IV and the last one said I should skip fx30 and go for the Fx3 instead. Which makes the choice even more difficult. Aps-c is cheaper than Fullframe lenses. But the dynamic range and lowlight of fullframe is better. Most stuff I film nowadays is in 1080p60 so I don't need 4k120. So I have no idea what would be the best option to do.
@RaneMusic Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you've done this before, sorry for my ignorance xD Could you compare the A7iV Aps-C crop mode to the native ZVe10/FX30 image for videos? The only thing that's keeping me from buying a full-frame is the cost of full frame lenses, so it'd be nice to know how good the Aps-C mode looks with lenses for those sensors :) Edit: How would Aps-C mode affect the low light performance and stabilization?

Something tells me I'll end up going through a similar workflow with what you have going with the A7IV and FX30, along with my ZV-E10. Had you left out the subtle quality differences, I wouldn't have noticed because they're extremely similar despite it's smaller differences! Great review as always, Mark!

My first camera is the FX30 , i love it, i mainly do video i do pictures too but i have a fujifilm camera for that if needed. i been doing video for years and for the past 3 years i been using the Fuji X-T3 and X-T4 love them but those camera has issues, i'll name the issues in a min but. the main reason i got the FX30 and sold my Fuji X-T4 is because the X-T4 has a 20 or 30 min record limit and if i'm shooting 4K60 it can over heat in 20 min or less.. So i needed a camera that won't overheat, and that it he FX30, now this is my first time using a Sony Camera system, and i must say i do like it, but i probably would have loved a full frame system better but my budget was not able to do it, i would have had to get the Sony FX3 and that is around $3,500.00 and no lens so i had to go with the APSC system. it's been a crazy 4 months, i sold my Fuji X-T3 and lens, got a Canon R6, which is full frame, got the 24-105 lens for it. and shot a couple videos with it and didn't like it, i didn't like the way it worked with C-Log3 Gamut, i got a green cast in my skin tones that i couldn't get rid of, also the autofocus system sucked even with eye tracking on it lost focus too many times for my taste, so i took it back got a full re-fund, then got the Fuji X-T4 shot with with it for 2 months then the Sony FX30 came out and said that's it that is the camera i need, so i was able to get that camera 3 days after it was released.. Traded in my Fuji X-T4 and lens for the Sony Fx30 and got a 18-105 Lens for it. I'll tell you it's been crazy, now i'm just getting use to this camera and how the Auto-Focus system works i did notice it to be a bit softer in sharpness then my Fuji X-T4 If i shoot Log weather it's internally or Externally, but if i shoot Standard no log i can set the sharpness by going to color / tone and then go to creative look and change sharpness and also clarity and i can bump up sharpness to like 5 or 6 and my subject is not as soft and looks razor sharp, too bad you can apply them settings to LOG shooting, that would be amazing, but i don't think there is a way to apply them settings to LOG shooting, which i like because i like the Cine EI.. Now if you know of a way to get around that i would love to hear it, but so far i don't think there is a way... Now i like the S-Cinetone, i could probably copy PP11 S-Cinetone and copy it to pp1 and then jack up the Detail from -5 to like 0 or +1 that would probably give me the results i'm looking for.

From the perspective of an industry professional I would buy the FX30 and the 4K 120 FPS is a big reason why. For film/TV and commercial work (and not counting the ultra high-end cameras typically obtained from rental houses) we are almost always using a rigged out FX9, Komodo, XF705 or similar 4K depending on the production. For the step down of social media related work where a 4k workflow can still be requested/preferred but the optics differ, the APC-S line is perfectly sufficient for mirrorless cameras and the 4k 120 fps is a rarity in this price range. Does that mean I don't also love and want the R5C? No, I covet that camera and will probably purchase it just to say I own one, but in my particular case I've not had a lot of situations where I've needed full frame mirrorless because the projects either require the commercial rigs mentioned above, or are completely suitable for APS-C. BUT in the commercial space for the right clients you could argue that there is a shift happening. Also, choice of lens alongside the camera will always make a difference, obviously. As an aside, MARK did you see the limited edition colored cages that SmallRig produced for select cameras? I am personally offended that they didn't offer one for the ZVE10, but since you seem to have an "in" with Ulanzi and those two are always trying to one-up each other, maybe you can convince them to do a similar visually exciting color scheme on their newer Falcom quick release cage line. Throw around that influence, you influencer you! 🙂

How would you rate the 4k60 and 4k120 in terms of detail and sharpness? My concern is that it gets soft. Also, what features do not work in 4k120fps (auto focus tracking, active stabilization)?

The 4k60 is as sharp as 4K 24 - the 120 is still sharp but still quite sharp. Active stabilization does not work in 4k120. But the autofocus works as normal

Hi me again. I think I’m settle on getting myself a Harvey. Now I just need to find out the lens. This talking head was a 24mm? Did you have to do fisheye correction in post?? See my big thing is I’m trying to upgrade from my iPhone but I want to keep things looking similar. I actually went to a camera shop today and we determined that a 28mm lens is about what my iPhone matches up to. However the min focus distance of his Sony FE 28mm f2 didn’t look so great to me. Currently, I’m able to get my iPhone SO close to my subjects. The 35mm 1.8 however looked goood as far as closeness. I think I need a 20cm min focus distance. My other issue though is I swear the 28mm f2 had fisheye effect a bit. Even though my iPhone has none. So now I’m afraid to go to 24mm. But it was really hard to tell because the viewfinder on the A7C he had me using was TINYYYY and reflective. Jesus lol. Any advice on a lens to go with for my type of videos, how to deal with this frame vending, focus distance, and awful display (coming from iPhone)? It seems like a monitor will be required for studio work (I need to make sure my subject is in focus and that I can see objects in the distance). Sorry if I am being obnoxious and I know I’m trying to go out this with no experience and I feel like that will rub some people the wrong way because I know people go to school for this kind of stuff but I always end up finding a way. Almost there!!! Thanks in advance for any help.

I run a small KZbin channel focusing on mountain biking. I'm close to pulling the trigger on an FX30 and a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens. I'll use it for selfie style video intros both outside with a selfie-stick and in my office with a tripod. But I'll also use it to film action shots of people biking out on the trails (always video, no stills). The FX30/Sigma lens combo appeals to me for portability (small & light for how good the footage can be) which is a big deal when you have to pack it into the woods on your bike. The lowest light I'll be in will be the classic dreary mid-day overcast Pacific Northwest day under tree cover. I highly doubt I'll need the 120 fps (I usually shoot in 4k/30fps). Does that FX30/Sigma lens combo make sense in your opinion, or would you recommend the A7IV over the FX30 for those purposes?

Fx30 price will get expensive with xlr handle but if you choose not to get it then the price difference will be more between a7iv and fx30. I just got mine and comparing it to my a6600 but i notice something with the stabilization and what i can say is that i find the a6600 more stabilized than fx30 considering fx30 has standard and active stabilization. Im not sure if it's just my unit or its a bug if you shoot at 4.2.0 8bit. Why i shoot on 8bit on fx30? Because i wanted to see the difference between both cameras on both 8bit since a6600 only has 8bit. So im not even sure if 8bit causes the bug in fx30 stabilization but i will have to do more testing to rule it out.

So I was eyeing the a7iv but when you featured the FX30, my attention started drifting towards it. But I think, though this video seems to imply the a7iv still is the better camera overall, that the FX30 is better suited for a "fixed" KZbinr creating content. As in, one that won't go outdoorsy shooting while moving. I'm talking down in the "batcave" with the lights up and doing some B rolls of products and things. What say you Mr Bennett? Because yeah, that 4K120fps does sound like a pretty good feature. And the fans sounds amazing for when the camera is on "streamer" cam duty.
