"Don't let emotion get in the way when buying a truck". Truer words have never been spoken and they apply to a whole lot more than just trucks or even vehicles.
@leimdog
@leimdog 8 жыл бұрын
This is seriously some of the best advice I've heard and would apply to any used vehicle purchase. It's all too easy to get caught up in the emotion of a new (to you) vehicle and as he said, you need to "un-sell yourself from this vehicle and take the emotions out". Excellent video!!

I LOVE THIS KZbin CHANNEL! HE REMINDS ME OF BOBBY DAN DAVIS BLOCKER WHO PLAYED HOSS CARTWRIGHT ON BONANZA FROM 1959 TO 1972. After Dan Blocker's passing on May 13th, of 1972 due to medical complications (Pulmonary Embolism) Bonanza lasted only one final season without the shows longstanding, and favored cast member Hoss Cartwright. The 14th and final season ended on January 16, of 1973.

Simple, concise and straight forward advice. Applies to all make cars and trucks, not just Powerstrokes. I've heard of fleet users doing this scam. The dealer really should go after the person that sold them the rig, but that's a lot of time and money. Karma works though, because that person / company eventually gets found in today's internet - social media world.

Realistically the dealer probably saw all the oil under the engine all over everything. Unfortunately its buyer beware and the dealer got a great deal on it. The just cleaned it up. Bet money they know how hard it was run.

You got it all right... Too bad the guy who brought that to you clearly had no idea what to look for before purchasing, even if it wasn't emotionally charged. Having spent over 25yrs in automotive stuff, I've seen it many times and you NAILED IT with the simple reality that one needs to look before leaping. All that leaked fluid would've been a guarantee that the truck was beaten. Great stuff and it SHOULD get you business because you're not only right, but you're being honest! KUDOS! FOLKS: Spend the 2-3hundred for a solid check or 6-8,000 for repairs if you get it wrong on your own.

I recently bought a 7.3 for 3k originally being sold for 4.5k. Did a few minor repairs and fluid changes and it runs like a Champ. Yeah it's kind of ugly, considering it was a farm truck, but everything seems solid mechanically. It's always good to look past the outer beauty and invest into something that will last you many more years years come.

Screw dealerships. Been there done that. Bought a truck with false mileage as well. They (dealership) had truck spotless, I was just a kid and did not know any better. Fortunately I bought extended warranty and that saved my ass. Over $10,000 in new parts, and mine was a cummins. New front end, turbo, injection pump, lift pump, hydrobuest, AC work, and other nick nacks. I'm a firm believed in having a mechanic looks before I buy, and check on clist. Great deals come up all the time,

I realize I'm chiming in a bit late here, but I was in the market for a truck last year. I watched this video (and several others from PSH) before I went diesel shopping. One of the trucks I looked at had, as Rick described it, immaculate interior. The thing was gorgeous, except for the pedals. The rubber was worn completely through to the metal on the brake pedal on the accelerator side which suggested to me that it had seen a lot more action than the interior or the odometer suggested. It made me immediately wonder if this was one of 'those trucks' Rick talked about. I ended up with a 2000 from a private owner, and I LOVE my 7.3.

You have done the public a GREAT SERVICE here, my wife decided on a 2006 6.0 and I put a coolant filter on it once I learned of its issue's,and next the head bolts, oil cooler ect. I knew that Ford did some shady things by covering up issue's with their rigs and I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER DIESEL from ford! That being said our 6.0 hopefully wont keep me up at night like it did in the beginning when we fist got it. This is our third diesel, two Dodge Cummins motors, the 12 valve 5.9 5 speed in a one ton-great truck! And a 2001 24 valve 5.9 auto, and it isn't bad, well except the stock trans, keep up the maintenance on the trans ever 15k-25k-service the trans and change fluids and it will last! Lastly I want to thank you as an American, for your help with vets, and your bold honesty about Fords products and people who rip others off and how to protect ones self, these things everyone should see, a friend turned me onto you, and I thank him also! I hope FORD gets wind of this, and everyone I know with one will hear of this and hopefully force them to change!

recently purchased a 2003 F250 with a 6.0 after buying it and watching Bill's videos and him scaring the shit out of me with this engine I decided that even though the dealer that I bought it from which was not a Ford dealer I took Bill's advice and took it 2 Ford dealer had the oil changed the fuel filters changed the coolant flush and fill and the rear end serviced. drove it for $5,000 miles kept a check on the oil and Coolant and did not lose a drop in the 5000 miles so I think I've got a good engine. when I bought the truck the odometer showed 146,000 miles pulled the Carfax that's when I found out the last reported mileage was near 250,000 but had an excellent service history so when buying a truck don't believe mileage you see on the dash always check the last reported mileage on Carfax I just got lucky and got an engine that has been very well cared for

I really wanna buy a 05-07 King Ranch one day. I think they're some of the sexiest trucks out there. I currently own an old rusty 92 Cummins. The truck is literally falling apart around the motor. I only like Dodge's for the Cummins, but I so am getting a 6.0L Powerstroke some day. I love the look of them and my friend owns one and said that if you maintain them and do the work to them, they're one of the most reliable diesels ever made.

"Reputable Dealer". Lemme type some more after I stop laughing. "Thieving Scumbags" is more like it. On par with banks and Insurance companies - every last one of them lowlife bloodsuckers. Every so often I go and spend 2-3 days wasting a salesmans time looking at vehicles with no intention of buying. Then I just leave and string them along for weeks if I can with slow response to their calls, emails etc. That might be harsh, some will say I am driving up prices - but the little guy getting ripped off to the tune of $16K for an engine replacement wont think so. Unbelievable douchebags car dealers AND manufacturers are, the lot of em. Stay gold.

+dnl machine last line says it all. So many scumbag dealers and shops. I just don't understand why, especially shops. I have a shop in my town that is run by a very honest mechanic and he does not crooked employees. if it only costs $15 to fix your vehicle then that's what he charges. Because of this he has more work than he can deal with. Being a crooked Mechanic just doesn't make sense. Next the dealers, both new and used are all crooks. With them its something they took in on trade and found out afterward its junk so they spiff it up and sell it with a very short warranty or as is. Third is the manufactures. They are selling you brand new shit. take fords diesel. The 6.0,6.4 and 6.7 are all known to have serious problems, so your paying 8000 dollars more for the diesel that you have to pot another 8000 dollars into down the road. Vehicles have become so complex and high tech that all of them are problems waiting to happen. I tell people all the time save your 60,000 dollars, go pick up a 1979 f-250 and restore it. you'll spend less money, have a more reliable truck and you can design it to your taste......Rant over.

MrTheHillfolk They don't like it when a customer has any knowledge about vehicles. I was looking at a truck at a used car dealer. After he fed me his line of bullshit I picked the truck apart then made an offer that was half of the asking price. He walked away, went inside and locked the door. Six months later the truck was still there. I stopped in again and he said he would except my offer. I told him that was six months ago and now my offer was 2000 less. he took it and I purchased it. It had problems but with what I paid for it I fixed it up and it's been a good truck.

My personal opinion is the new 6.7L will rival or equal the legendary 7.3L given some time to iron out the kinks. Nothing beats field testing and R&D. Listen to your Ford Power Stroke diesel techs and what they are finding. Solve these problems and face them head-on. Ford was at least smart enough to make the 6.7 an in-house manufactured operation so they have total control over quality and the outcome of the final products. No leaving it in the hands of Navistar/International and outsourcing it any longer. They burnt any and all bridges with the "six point OH-NO!!!" If this fails, I look forward to maybe CAT getting another chance once the Obama administration and his "green libotard" EPA is out of the way. It was a sure bet before all this crap started causing CAT to pull the plug. I think Ford is capable themselves however if they give us what we want. Stop pussyfooting around and build a damn truck that will equal or beat what you built at the turn of the Century. Fire those damn engineers that think city slickers buy trucks like this. We don't want or need all this shit in a HD diesel powered truck. Maybe they won't be $50,000+ then once again. Sell those guys a F-150 so they can haul groceries and crawl the mall parking lot on 4WD. Don't confuse the two and you will be straight!! 'Merca!!!!

Another thing I learned from you a looong time ago Bill. Look at the brake pedal. The rubber on the pedal will wear down to the metal. This isn't a bad thing per say but I own a small fleet of Ford trucks,most of them Powerstrokes and EVERY ONE that I own shows accurate wear on the brake pedal accordingly. Great vid, great channel and I look foeward to the next. Also if the day comes that i can't fix my rig Im headed to Georgia from Ohio buddy!

Who's to say they don't clean it all up and degrease the chassis, drivetraine, ect... You can't dress the kid down for being an idiot, and frankly the Ford dealer should be liable for this kind of horse shit... When it's being sat tied the a tech should be doing what your suggesting he do.. Especially a Ford dealer...

+fakegibsonssuck If a car dealership has steam cleaned the underside of a vehicle, BIG RED FLAG. That means they have cleaned off the oil and gunk. Last vehicle I bought, that was the first thing I did was crawl under and looked for grease and oil leaks. If I had found a bunch of oil or if the underside was sqeaky clean, I wouldn't have taken a second look. Didn't even look inside until I was happy with the underside. That was 11 years ago and the truck has been a good one (not a powerstroke mind you, but was a 4.2 S10).

Thanks for doing this video! I'm a Dodge Cummins guy, but everything you said applies to any pickup, Ford, Dodge, or GM. I had never heard of owners pulling out and storing seats and instrument panels so as to be able to drive the vehicle almost into the grave, then putting the original interior back in and selling it. Seems to me that's pre-meditated intent to commit FRAUD and should be subject to criminal prosecution if it could be proved. This is why I would never buy a 4WD truck used unless I knew the original owner personally: too many very expensive things that could have been abused or worn out on a 4WD, then you're stuck with the big repair bills. Again, thanks for the video, it was an eye-opener!

Great advice. Many think just because they're buying from a dealer, it's better than buying from an individual and that's completely backwards. Dealers go to auctions to obtain most of the used vehicles. Those are leased or trade ins from dealers that don't want to get stuck with it, whereas an individual selling it, probably bought it brand new and is just looking to upgrade and if traded the dealers only allow what they can buy it for at auction. If it has problems, then trade it in.

Super informative, just like your other videos. I skipped out on the 6.0's, etc and bought a 7.3. I am super happy with it. With a few easy mods its more than capable. For people with failed 6.0's and 6.4's, I would just replace it with a Cummins.

Darkwolf06 vheb in GA, all used cars whether personal or dealer sale, is covered in any way. if it says "as-is" you have no recourse. you could promise them a brand new motor and 50k miles and after they buy it, the carfax shows it has 500k miles and then the motor blows up - they have no recourse. they bought it and made the decision. it's called buyer beware. Regarding the alignment to check for on a truck. I have seen many new Ford trucks with bad alignment to begin with. And..If the truck was used to plow snow, for example, ball joints will go long before it reaches 100K miles. Also, Ford should have never stopped using the 7.3 Much more reliable engine in my book.

I wish you were close by, I bought an 06 from a private seller, paid $150 for a pre-purchase inspection at a very well reviewed diesel shop in San Antonio. I've worked on a lot of cars, but no diesels, so I specifically asked the shop to focus on the engine (I can fix other stuff like power windows, a/c etc)... Gave it a clean bill of health and had them change the oil. 2 weeks later it runs out of coolant. Had it checked, head-gaskets are gone. 165K miles - traded it in with problems for 7000 less than I paid for it, but had to trade it (to get financing) - didn't have the cash to fix it. Now I drive a Camry. So, even shops miss things - think these guys were lazy because I wasn't there to buy a lift kit - or maybe they were hoping to sell me a head job down the road. Don't know, but yeah.

Thank you for an excellent warning video. Good thing we have the internet. I think there should be a law that any and all vehicles sold MUST have the repair history documentation with it. AND the names and addresses of the previous owners. That would go a long way to helping buyers avoid getting scammed.
